Sindika Dokolo, the son-in-law of Angolan President
Jose dos Santos has been sentenced to jail for fraud in the Democratic
Republic of Congo.
The businessman and art
collector who's married to dos Santos’ billionaire daughter Isabel,
reported to be the Africa's richest woman was jailed in absentia for
real estate fraud on Wednesday.
Reacting
on Twitter, Sindika who's widely known as a big critic of Democratic
Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila and supporter to his rival
party, accused him of orchestrating the conviction
“I have just inaugurated a $400 million factory. Kabila has condemned me to one year in prison over a plot of land.”
Speaking to Reuters on Thursday, he also denounced the verdict delivered by a court in the capital Kinshasa, as politically motivated.
'This
conviction is so crude. It seems that Kabila and the intelligence
service are no longer even concerned about appearances, He said.
The business man also said that he had previously been acquitted in the same case.
Although, a Congo government spokesman said he was not aware of Dokolo’s conviction.
The
Congolese Authorities have repeatedly rejected allegations that the
Congo’s justice system is targeting the supporters of President
Kabila's opponent.
