Robberies in Lagos Traffic - another person shares experience & pics

Another person shares his frightening experience. Read below (something has to be done about this!)
I got robbed on Eko bridge last night at around 8pm. The most painful part is that while the episode played out for about 5 mins, people in other cars just looked on unconcerned. I had my wife and 9 month old baby in the car at the time but that didn't beset them as they scattered the side glass all over them in a movie like manner. They managed to break two of my side windows and made away with 3 mobile phones and my sister's bag which had her cards and other valuables inside. Please advise your readers to be careful on the usual Eko bridge traffic when coming to the mainland in the evening.

Sorry abt ur experience. Thank goodness u all are alive. As for the lookers, they can't do anything abt d situation. Even if an alarm is raised, the person will be done for and if security is alerted, that one will be double voice mail.

Those people in the other cars should have alerted the police or raise an alarm

A question for you sir?Have you ever witnessed one?Did you attempt to help or call for help?Have you ever witnessed any jungle justice action?Did you do anything to stop it or call attention to it.Have you ever witnessed a police brutality action, what did you do about it?

I sympathize with you for the trauma you and your family must have gone through especially with a baby in the car ,but if you have seen and done nothing about any of the incidences I mentioned above,I'll ask that you refrain From castigating people for not coming to help.

Maybe if you had taken the first step by opening your door and coming down aggressively, maybe others would have followed suit. You were too scared to defend your family, but you expect others to do it for you.

Nigerians are quick to fault others when we are usually guilty of same.its our collective responsibility and as long as we all continue to do nothing about it cos we are cowardly or we are self preserving, then these good for nothing miscreants will continue in their ways.

You guys should always have taser gun in your car, bag or anywhere.i swear when you shoot any one of them with it,then others will run.

Oh Wow! This happened to me on and my friend just last Friday on ikorodu road in traffic. I had dozed off and they tried my side of the car but changed their minds and moved around to my friend's side. He tried to slam into the car in front of us to get them to come to our rescue but the passengers blatantly refused to come down from their car.I woke up a start. With speed and precision, they smashed into his window (the AC was on) and started screaming your phones, your bags.... They made away with his phones. I am so jittery and anxious now in traffic. Somebody please help stop this menace.

They have been robbing on Eko bridge since and Lagos state government cannot say they're not aware. WHAT IS OUR TAX FOR????? Everyday they will be asking for tax clearance cert. Stupid people. Cannot give us good roads, cannot provide security, cannot do anything for us. Tax ko, task ni. Useless people.

Unknown said...

Sorry friend, thank God you and your family are safe. This reoccurring trend is so terrible

Temitayo said...

my issue is still that the fact the people always look n tend to do nothing while this senseless acts play out, ad the same experience on ojota enroute new garage, people were just looking. #peace

Our government needs to get rid of hawkers in the road, they will pretend to be hawking and then do this nonsense... Those roads should also have CCTV and police foot patrols....

But Ambode and Fashola won't use brain. Too busy thinking of what to steal

Anonymous said...

It's sad but there is nothing any one can do. He himself will not stop if he happens to meet same.

This place has been reported over one million times but security measures are not taken, see the country we like,we just need to take security measure on ourselves, about a week ago, a boy was killed broad day light, on a market square as busy as it is, the boy screamed help me more than a million times shouting.. but no one help, all am trying to say is we need to secure ourselves please, when you knw it's really late let's keep far from the bridge

What a terrible country we live in!

Anonymous said...

Lagosian are cowards, when will we get the courage to stop these people?
If only three people can step down from their cars, these robbers will run at least. Government too should put police on the bridge just like that of third-mainland.

A free for all epidemic.

But seriously this is getting too rampant on eko bridge....it's an everyday thing whenever there's traffic....something should be done....

Amy said...

Alert ke? My dear they will just be looking on oh. When my own happened, cars were even shining their headlights sef. That's Lagos for you. They don't help in tough situations oh. You are soooo on your own when such things happen. That Eko bridge had been known for that, but no, the police head will do nothing. Same with Alapere area. It's only on 3rd mainland bridge you see them. Whether they are remitting money to the olixem n, I don't know cos they rob with serious impunity.

This has been happening since! Instead of giving Fashola constructive criticism so he can improve, we were too busy praising him. Smh....

I have been robbed on Eko brigde as well, January 2011, few months to my wedding, hubby(fiance then) just sent a new car to Naija and i was cruising it to work that morning even though i just started driving. My sister's driver had a day before said he checked everything and the car was perfect, unknown to me the battery was not well placed. The car stopped working on eko bride and i was on phone calling my hubby to know what could be wrong, two guys just showed beside me with local guns.this was around 7am and every other car passed like nothing was happening even though i tried making signs to them cos there was slow moving traffic just beside me. I thought they wanted to help initially until i saw the guns and the carted away with my phones and jeweleries including my engagement ring. I was about taking off my bracelet when a good samaritan, one brave man suddenly parked and came with a rod which they perceived was a gun and ran away. i cried like a baby. Lessons learnt, if u are not in traffic and your car stops ,just hop out with few things . go to where people are, watch your car from there, hold your bag firmly while you pace, dont stand still and make arrangements for the repair.do not stay alone even when you are out(my bag has been snatched also and another time my new jewelry set was taken from my bag while standing). I dont have pictures Linda, but this can enlighten someone, i have had bad experiences on lagos roads, especially eko bridge. each time, I try to learn from my mistakes.

This is d dumbest thing I hv ever heard!! R u serious? U said he was too scared to defend hiss family and wanted other pple to do so? R u high? He did the right thing by not being macho and coming down esp with a baby in d car!!! He is absolutely right in saying no one came to his aid, obv d other pple were scared too but thts no reason for u to start blaming him!! U tht ut talking, u better pray it never happens to u or ur family members then u'll wish pple rushed to help u!!! U offer sympathy and in d next breath insult! U need help...

I stopped driving to work because of this scare. I have been robbed once in my car (CMS bridge) and I have witnessed other people being robbed in their cars (Mile 2, Orile and Oshodi plenty times). I decided to go the public transport way, as that seems like the best option for me. They hardly rob buses, I believe. May God help us.

How do you know its not a yoruba person?

Unknown said...

May God have mercy on us all! Something needs to be done bout this traffic robbery....

firstlady said...

Along the Mile 2 road, we now need a lot of touts who surround your car seemingly begging for money in broad day light. Their aim is to rob. It happened to me on Monday. I am very worried about our roads, no security at all. Somehow I see police in their vans at strategic corners, sleeping....

4.38pm,kindly refrain from throwing insults.what is it with us as humans that we can't pass an opinion without resorting to this?

I sympathize with him but he should have lodged his complaint without blaming the people around.my questions are valid.would he attempt to help if it was reversed?if he can answer yes.honestly too then I applaud his heroism and will say he's one in a million Nigerians.

Yes it has happened to me.2ce.with kids in the car.though I was sad no one came to help but I understood and didn't come on a blog to yak.

Have I changed the idea of just looking since after my experience?yes!!I flash my lights and start to rev and honk if its happening in front of me.if its a jungle action,I call into radio stations or drive as fast as possible if traffic permits to get a police or any law enforcement officials even if its KAI!!!!

So bro or sis,I'm sane and I know what I'm talking about.Nigerians have been complaining about everything since BC yet never doing anything to change the situation.
