The dictionary definition of an entrepreneur is someone taking calculated risk to raise capital, 90 percent of your nominees are wealthy people children, who just relocated back to Nigeria from uk or the u.s and are from priviledge homes , and their parents have given them money to start business, and they go around town sharing complimentary cards in various nite clubs and social gathering, are they really making profits in their businesses, imagine some are paying rent of 3 million per annul, and selling cup cakes,

I know someone in this picture that is not even making sales of 100k a month, so please tell me, on which basis do u organisers judge entrepreneurs, is it because they are from rich homes, or guys and babes that always on the red carpets, or people that are actually growing their businesses . Please organisers answer lets know the basis on which you people are rating or selected this nominess

Ms Folashade, at least they are getting up and doing something, what are you doing appart from comming online and judging others for their effort?

Is it bad to come from a rich home?
And always being on the red carpet? that's called NETWORKING my dear, but i guess you won't understand till you start your own business.

Anonymous said...

Lmao. Maybe next year u should actually nominate and get someone "deserving" on there. Abi you are vexing because there are people out there who actually "doing" something and you are here being bitter.

Hey Shade,
Well, I understand your stance, its still a risk even if the capital was giving to the business owner by their parent(s). Because the capital invested isn't going back to the "parent" purse and if the business is not generating profit of any kind, I believe the "wealthy" parent will not be so dumb to continue putting money in a business that doesn't bring a direct or indirect ROI for the investor = parent or the owner = kids.

So take a chill pill and continue striving.

The Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Awards said...

@Ms Folashade:
The nominees for the AYE Awards are chosen ENTIRELY by the public. The AYE Awards team merely shortlists those that meet pre set criteria based on number of nominations. Our eventual winners are chosen also based on public votes amongst other several criteria.
That an individual has schooled abroad or has wealthy parents does not give them any advantage as we certainly do not ask for these details during nominations.
It is a relatively new credible initiative specifically meant for Abuja based young entrepreneurs, organized by a private organization.
Thank you for all your comments and we hope as the years go by, you may appreciate the thought and hard work behind the awards.

At gun point, I will speak the truth said...

@ folashade kayode, u have spoken the real truth, out generation will be worse than abacha generation, if we don't take u-turn to correct things, what happen to that young man in kubwa dat owns a successful block industry, I guess this awards is more like fashion parade for people to grace red carpet in Abuja, because the real entrepreneurs on the list are less than 5 percent,

Unlike the future awards were u see nominees who everyone can see the impact he or she is making, how many workers this people pay salaries to, some are just inside their rooms doing the business,

Because they are from priviledge backgrounds, so they have access to the owner of bella niaja, and thisday style, that gives them the right to be nominated as an entrepreneur, I pity our generation, we must start giving awards to people that really deserve them,

Truth speaker said...

Honestly speaking all the young entrepreneur in Abuja we know are not here, majority of the nominees here are friends of the organisers, not like the future awards that is so transparent, this Abuja award is selection of wealthy people children. The award name should be changed to Abuja wealthy men children's award, because its not encouraging the youth from middle and ordinary background that are working so hard in growing their businesses.

Let me give like 5 names of very successful entrepreneurs based in Abuja , and google them, u will see how well they are doing, but their names are not here,
1. Igho sanomi (owner of taleveras oil)
2. Amarachi iwuanyanwu( md of sungold properties)
3.isioma ( owner of spring wash dry cleaners)
4. Owner of focal point
5.eze mbanefo( owner of crystal printers)

Too many names to mention, you organisers are just selecting popular noise makers in Abuja, instead of the real entrepreneurs

Anonymous said...

We won't criticise anyone because he or she is from priviledge backgrounds, because if anyone of us is lucky to come from such background we will definitely thank God,

But the truth is that we hope are we giving that ordinary hard working people that are working very hard in creating and developing their businesses in Abuja, that we all know. We have many entrepreneurs in Abuja that are doing very well. But all their names are absent on your list. Please organisers speak out, we discussed this at bamboo in maintaima yesterday, and everyone hissed that you people are not serious organisers.

Please you guys come out on linda ikejil blog to explain to us, how u selected your nominees and also the final results should be published here. Because if this event is not transparent as it should be, we are planning of floating our own awards which will be more credible this year. So you guys have a chance to savage the credibility of this award now or never

The Abuja Young Entrepreneurs Awards said...

Nominations for The AYE Awards take place from the 1st to 31st December. Please nominate who you wish to see make the list. If they get enough nominations and meet the selection criteria (available at www.ayeawards.com), they will be on the shortlist. We do not claim to know all the hardworking young entrepreneurs in Abuja, but we stand 100percent behind those who have made the list.
The awards night will open with an exhibition displaying some of their works,we invite you to come and see what they do.
Thank you.

Anonymous said...

AYE is for under 25 please

Anonymous said...

Mr anonymous 'discussing' at Bamboo. You better organise that new awards show o! if you dont ehn!!!!
Pick one of these nominees that is not deserving and i will personally answer you! i dont know the organisers, but i know a LOT of these nominees. Stay there in Kubwa and be making blocks and not network o, they will come and give you your award there! Shior!
Because you dont know people doesnt mean you should put them down! Because some of them have wealthy parents doesnt mean they cant be successful entrepreneurs!
All of you comparing AYE and Future awards! shame on you because when the future list comes out, you will also criticize. future awards is 7 yrs old, AYE is going 2, while you are there being bitter, they are growing! GET UP AND DO SOMETHING TOO!!!!! Even if its to organise THE SPECIAL AWARDS FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT RICH PARENTS.

Folashade kayode said...

I want to ask the organisers 3 questions.

1. Please can you list the panel of judges that selected this nominees.

2.what criteria did they use in selecting this nominees, because if you are going to us that is by the highest number of vote they got online, that means I can just hire someone to sit in a cyber cafe and open several emails account and start voting for my candidate

3. What effort did you make as organisers to verify the return on investment, making sure is not just some people that have contact with social media blogs, or magazine or know a lot of people in Abuja that are just looking for popularity.

Because if you guys as organisers don't do serious investigation and background check about you nominees, the credibility of your award is at risk.

Did u read about the dispute with Saudi prince and forbes magazine, of how the prince is saying he his worth 29 billion dollars, and forbes discovered its just 20 billion dollars.

Please I advise you guys not to take this as someone trying to bring you guys down, but a way to learn what award is about.

Lmao!!! So the AYE awards people had to come defend their scam! Hahahahahahahah! SAMIAH this is for you: LIB isnt the best place to advertise ur awards. The show last yr was wack! You need a solid knwn body behind this your award, coz right now its like you samiah handing out awards, dznt make sense.... Godfrey, jide, ejike etc dont even have offices but they are nominess 4 ur enterpreneurs awards? How pls? You think coz they run up and dwn abj and do free makeup/fotography for people they r actually worth calling enterpreneurs? Take several seats samiah!!! Nice initiative but get it right! D public nominates in future awards too but they also SCREEN and smetimes ask 4 business acct evidence!!

Anonymous said...

The Economic sense, right? ...This people are not educated follies like you, so just hush your mouth and talk to your BRAIN brilliant-dumb-ass.

PS: Progress/potential for success and not always "PROFIT" is what separate babies from baale. so leave ajebuta pikin dem alone. inheritance or Wealth is built and not born with so my friend stay BUSY with a concrete list of to do or task. God go bless your hustle so dem go dey talk about ur pikin too sha or else OYO lo wa o!

Anonymous said...

Miss folashade u ar on point. Kudos

Anonymous said...

Lol. @ Abuja wealthy men children award, una wicked sha..lol... Luff wan kill my enemy

Anonymous said...

Pls personally answer me o! How is EJIKE deserving of aye award? Waiting for your reply! (Media and art category) in d whole of abj? Take several seats!!!!

Anonymous said...

Under 35 please. Cant u see those old mama's in the picture??

Anonymous said...

Samiah this is constructive criticism so s take it: the 'public' that nominates is just your small click you know in abuja, thats a problem. Im not an enterpreneur and idont need d award,my friends were nominated last yr and this yr but even some of the nominess cant boast of this award,y? Because there is no 'body' giving this awards, its just you samiah! If you had a very big brand giving out this award (not sponsors o,partner) it will be worth it. Another problm is most of this ur nominess,eg ameerah dznt even mke so much frm their business! Iknw this gal well, she has money(family) so u wldnt knw her business dznt generate much..is dat y she shldnt b nominated?no! My pt is,if you say 'enterpreneur' then people tjat their business r not generating as much as they decorate it to,shldnt be their. You may need to rebrand soon o,coz nxt yr,d way its goin, same people will be there. Cheers! Goodluck! Ps: even if ur tckt is 1k,people in abj wont buy. Awards shld b by invitation not 'buying tckts'

Anonymous said...

You can stand 100percent behind Godfrey?? Lmao! Take a seat! Coz he runs around abj you think he generates income? What accessories does jameslully do?those bags from china with bad zips? Samiah just stop responding here abeg! Yes some people nominated work hard, but pls do better screening next time. And change the award name, its too hefty for the kind of nominees you are having..

Anonymous said...

Pls explain how add ons is nominated?if well screened, she wont be! She sells jewelrry and bags,so what? You shldnt av put that category samiah, fashion and style covers it! Who advises you sef?

Anonymous said...

Lmaoooo folashade!!! Because u weren't nominated!! I know u na!!! U get one samall wine shop for banex plaza. Awww boo no worries try and network small, advertise, get a website, advertise. Haba babe. So u came to LIB to complain as usual instead of helping urself. Na wa for u o

Anonymous said...

Bottom line, you people have criticized well, una well done!
All i can say is this, let us wait and see. If you dont like what they are doing, organize your own or dont GO! leave them alaone.
And the person talking about the young boys who dont have offices! U are obviously CONFUSED!!!! So on one hand you'll cricise that some are kids of rich parents who can get them offices, then the ones doing well trying to get there too arent deserving????
The show last year was wack abi??? na that one you use LIE PASS. Im sure you didnt event attend it or else you wont even open your mouth to say that.
Leave them alone to get better. If they werent doing something credible, certain organizations will not stand behind them. Mark my words, this is where you will still be hating as their organization GROWS!!!!
Miss Folashade if you are REALLY care about all these your JAMB questions, get the organizers number or email and stop looking for cheap props on social media because you didnt make the list!!! NTOINNNNN!

Anonymous said...

Why do you have fashion/style category and also have aCcesorry category? Because you want all your people to be nominated? Jameslully is nominated for making 5 styles of handbags from china with bad zips???? Okw we r getting you

Ahmed Olutola said...

Today is Sunday, the bible says we should keep the sabbath day holy, samaih u r trying, but u and I know u are sharing the awards to your friends and client who always patronise you in fusion lifestyle quarterly event, u saw what chide jideonwon did with future awards, he brought in people like ohima atafo and co, to help him out,

U having the dream doesn't mean u have d technicalities of administer ing an award, we know u as a very hard working woman, but the award is a joke am serious....u have good intentions yes no doubt, but this nominees are not it I swear

Anonymous said...

You cannot separate the term return on investment from the word entrepreneur, so my dear if they are not making profit or not selling, they shouldn't be called entrepreneurs.

While it will not be fair to equate you with the future awards because Your is 2 years old, but if u must use the name Abuja . U should be ready to receive insults for dis so called list of entrepreneurs u nominated.

Samaih if you are honest to yourself, u know this is not the best list you should come out with in the whole of Abuja.

Please change the name to the fusion youth award, please don't use the name Abuja, if u know u can't do proper investigation before dishing out awards to people that are not qualified. It's very annoying to genuine people that really deserve it

Anonymous said...

I think the only people deserving of these awards are those in the philanthropy category especially the water aid and the sickle cell aid fooundation SCAF. When I was in Nysc camp in nasarawa, they came to do free genotype test for us. Also, I think the nominees generally are cool. Stop comparing them to Lagos and Nigeria generally, Abuja is a small place

Anonymous said...

Abeg what's the prob here? You have to be popular nah, anywhere in the world, you just have 2 b on either social media or do what makes you a known name.... If you know them then they deserve to be named

Anonymous said...

All the comments against the award and the nominees are from people who are totally ignorant and lack understanding of what makes an entrepreneur. Profit is the ultimate goal of any business however the hard work, passion, drive, innovation, perseverance, faith, resilience and believe in the business are attributes that cannot be ignored in defining who an entrepreneur is. Prospects of a business cannot also be ignored because Entrepreneurs are also strategists who are constantly at work to build the biz. Eg the name mentioned as not making profit has a business built on a foundation that would definitely out live many biz that appear thriving at the moment. The structure on ground speaks of this. It takes courage to do what the Organizers and Nominees are doing and The Lord who delights in the prosperity of His people will bless the works of their hands. Amen

Anonymous said...

I agree with the last comment and want to add that entrepreneurs are risk takers. The Organizers took the risk of venturing into this project not knowing what d outcome wld be so did d nominees. Show me a bis dat does not declare loss at d beginning or for a period of time after take off and I will show u a man dat has never told a lie. Infact bis dat struggle to make profit at take off or even longer are those dat have a story to tell of their eventual success and dat becomes a learning point for new comers. Owners of bis must learn to nurture their bis for long term sustainability instead of quick quick profit. I there4 encourage d organizers, who have carved out a niche 4 encouraging children of d rich to work hard and not wait 4 handouts from their rich parents. I also give a big shout to young entrepreneurs dat won and those nominated to MOVE on to greater heights! Profit or no profit keep pushing, SUCCESS awaits U ALL!
