I agree with most of the dissenting opinions here especailly since the HHWAs seem to reflect 2007 - 2009 entries which means the playing ground was never level in the first place.
On the other hand, maybe we didn't vote enough?
Congrats to all the winners though. And thanks Linda! Even as I post this, the HHWA website doesn't have a list of the winners not to talk of pictures!

I'm so happy P-Square won an award, they are pretty good and deserved an award. Well deserved for Timaya(one of my favorite naija artist), and 9ice. I expected Dare and 2face to win something. Congrats to the people that won, even though I don't know most of them or heard their songs. Linda, good job on keeping us posted. love ya.

Linda, I've read all of the comments on the recent Hip Hop World Awards '09 on your page. I think some of the comments are reasonable but for some, it is apparent that some of my fellow music lovers do not understand the rudiment of good music. As far as I'm concerned, the organizers were 100.5% on point.
@ Madonna, Dare was nominated in the best vocalist and the best recording categories. I request that you pick up the CD if you have a copy and listen to 'Not the girl" again. Fantastic song, no doubt, Dare is a good singer but did you notice that he went off key at some point in the song? I read the judges statement as a die-hard fan of Nigerian music and activities within the local music industry and I realized that each category looks out to reward the best without a fault on a song. So if the best vocalist was won by Banky W, common I think you should respect that. Banky as far as I'm concerned is an excellent vocalist and his song "Don't break my heart" was better in terms of vocal delivery which the category was carved for. Dare is likely to pick an award next year (his album was not reviewed for the 2009 awards cos it was released in 2009. It will be reviewed in 2010. that's what they do)

Madonna also wrote about Mo'Hits and 2Face. My question back to you is which of the Mo'Hits songs and do you realize that the awards was for songs released in 2008? D'Banj was nominated but his album did not do as well as 9ice's Gongo Aso in 2008. I'm sure you won't argue that. 2Face was also nominated which is good enough but you can't compare his album to Gongo Aso as well.

We need to understand that these awards organizers are not selling the awards hence, people should not just come up to say 'why didn't they give this person or that person'. Omawumi won the next rated award and I believe she deserves it. I voted for her and I think you should look out for her, the girl is the next big thing.

I am true believer and supporter of Nigerian music and I think the best we all can do is to encourage instead of castigate activities within our local industry.

The only thing I heard about the awards was that it started late but I think it was because of the rain that fell before the kick off time. and maybe they should stick to Lagos to save them the stress of moving people here and there. But atleast, we did not here any casualty.

Keep doing what you're doing Linda....more grease to your elbow.

From Chika.
