Sad news for Nigerians that want to work in the UK with student visa

Tory led UK government will force foreign students to leave Britain once their courses end... eya!

UK Daily Mail reports
Foreign students are to be banned from working in Britain under a fresh crackdown on immigration ordered by Home Secretary Theresa May.
When courses finish they will have to leave the country before reapplying to return for a job. Ministers say the new rules, which will apply to all those from outside the European Union, will stop colleges being used as a 'back door to a British work visa'.
Official figures show that 121,000 non-EU students entered the UK in the 12 months to June last year, but only 51,000 left – a net influx of 70,000.
The government estimates that the number of foreign students coming to the UK will rise by more than 6 per cent a year up to 2020. Home Secretary Theresa May has taken action against 870 bogus colleges, banning them from taking foreign students.

But the Conservatives have vowed to go further, without the Lib Dems in power to force the rules to be watered down.

They want to stop student visas being used as an easy way to enter the UK before getting a job and claiming benefits.

Under the new rules, non-EU students will be denied the right to work while in the UK and will not be able to apply for a visa extension when their course finishes.
Students will have to leave the country before applying to return under a work visa.
The length of stay is also expected to be cut to two years when the plans are unveiled this week.

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire said it was 'part of our plan to control immigration for the benefit of Britain'.

'Immigration offenders want to sell illegal access to the UK jobs market and there are plenty of people willing to buy.

'Hard-working taxpayers who are helping to pay for publicly funded colleges expect them to be providing topclass education, not a back door to a British work visa.'
Business Secretary Sajid Javid signalled on Friday that the govermment would stop the education system being abused by immigrants.

He said: 'What we need to make sure – and we do have this – is that our immigration system allows those from abroad that want to come to Britain to study in our world-class universities, our fantastic colleges to come here,' he told the Today programme.

'But we've also got to have a system that doesn't allow any abuse when people are using the right to study as a way to achieve settlement in Britain.
'So we've got to break the link and make sure it's focused on people who want to study and then, once they've had their studies and completed that, then they leave.'
But universities have warned that any clampdown could damage the sector and business leaders are also wary of the move, warning it could rob Britain of vital skills.

Seamus Nevin, head of employment and skills at the Institute of Directors, said: 'The Business Secretary's proposals to eject foreign students after graduation are misguided and would damage the British education system, our economy and global influence.

'Britain already makes it difficult and artificially expensive for international students to enter and stay, and now these proposals would eject them ignominiously when their studies are finished.

'Restricting talented workers from staying on in the UK would damage business and lead to a loss of important skills.

'Shutting the door to highly-trained international graduates at a time when our economy needs them most would be hugely damaging for UK businesses.
'In the interests our education sector, our businesses, and our international standing, the Business Secretary should reconsider this proposal.'

The schools should be restricted from coming to our country to advertise. . . To me this is not right, these international students pay their fees which keep most of these UK universities offering masters degree running they make up the bulk of the student body yet, once their courses are done, you want to kick them out like thrash. This is just not right. Had these international students been on scholarship then we know they are overstaying their welcome but that is not the case with these institutions. These schools should stop trooping out for international students since their economy has nothing to offer after their program.

The UK is being very stupid! With the billions of funds that go from Africa for education purposes, they would lose more! Especially when other countries like the USA and Canada offer better immigration! It would only increase the number of sham marriages and their economy would go down for it! Lousy people!

They should come back home after studying dere

Cant blve people think Nigerian students are supporting the economy of a whole great britain. stupid. why not spend that money in your own motherland. Dont you know all the money you spend abroad is leading to the devaluation of your motherland's currency??? Typical africans

Linda get the updated news. Check same site. It was thrown back to Theresa. It has been blocked by Tory leadership. But this should not stop our leaders from investing into our education as every country is now protecting it's own.

This is good news for us, because people who can get the knowledge form the Uk can bring the know back to africa and participate in the revival of the continent. The brits have no idea what a mistake their making...lmao!!! They should check their records for the best students in most of these universities, I can assure you that only a small percentage are british...

Foreigners have been blessing the uk economy through there education system that is why you see them advertising there institutions more in nigeria..now they are playing a smart one to reduce the unemployment rate for there citizens after paying x2 tuition fee for schooling??? Let us sit back and develop our country's educational system and boost our economic growth rather than developing another persons land

Anonymous said...

or4dx You are an idiot. The average british student does far better than the average nigerian student. Also the top students are almost lways british. Blind ignorance like this is why they want us out of their society. If we were so great, we would not be trying to run out of africa

I pray God blesses our politicians with brains so they realise this. Isn't it a matter of pride if your country is doing well. That way, no country will take your students unlikely.
This visa stuff is only a disguise to push out africans. I bet my right arm that Britain will NEVER refuse south koreans, Japanese, Chinese and Indians jobs, and they are not part of European union.

My dear, I for one would love to come back home after school here in the UK. You guys think Nigerians in UK stay back because they just want to? No ma'am/sir. More Nigerians would gladly come back home if there is a system to absorb those who are done from school. They should come to Nigeria for what? The civil service that has the highest rate of favouritism? Or the private organizations that also work by who know who? Or to start a business where the cost of running it outweighs the profits being made. Let's all be fair in our thinking. The people in power should make the environment conducive and watch how many citizens will gather their loads and come back home. Having said this, Home is still home no matter what.

Mary!

Stale news

This is great news

Anonymous said...

It's actually very positive news. Nigerians who school in the UK can come home and work just like our parents generation did. That we have any institutions now is because of this practice. Believe me I schooled and have worked in the UK for a very long time and I truly regret that my resource is being used to better a foreign country.
If you check our history all the men and women who fathered our nation - Enahoro and co were educated in the best UK schools. Once the northerners who do not generally value education came in education and everything else degenerated.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. Please ask Linda to stop accepting their advert money. It's really quite embarrassing now.

Anonymous said...

Well said Mary. If Nigeria was conducive I would run back tonight. And I have a great life here in the UK.

Anonymous said...

This rule only applies to students in colleges not universities. Check the article on the UK guardian about it.

Unknown said...

Let them come home.

At first i was disappointed but now i see it as a blessing toput UK's flawed treatment on the spot. So many people have started causing so much problem about it and they are puttting the prime minister on the spot. They might be forced to review the whole issue for the better. Let us see how far they would go with this.

God bless you Mary...u spoke my exact thoughts. God Almighty in His infinite mercies will make Nigeria great for us. Amen.

I CAN'T REMEMBER WHEN LAST I VISITED THE UK. I DO MY HOLIDAYS IN AMERICA, CANADA, BRAZIL ETC. UK DON'T EXCITE ME ANYMORE

Student visa has never allowed students to work anyway. It now means that students cannot remain in UK or apply for more stay after courses are completed unless on other grounds.

Why would anyone invests in the UK? I studied and graduated in the UK far back as 2008 and even as at then UK for me has been dead. No jobs for people. 2 out of 10 will get good job after graduation and others will be working in the factory all in the name of I don't want to come back to Nigeria. The situation is so terrible that if you are the serious minded person with your 2 year post-study permit still valid you will want to come back home. My people don't waste your resources in UK government. After paying huge tuition fees and accomodation what happens? Please if you know you really want to go to any country to study and work I'll recommend coming to Canada. Lovely people and and good system. They support diversity and it is the only country I've seen when a foreigner is applying for job and you meet the requirements for the job you will be shortlisted for interview. As a member of visible minority you stand a good chance if you have the qualifications and requirements. God bless Canada!!!

Student HAS always allowed student to work - reduced hours during term time n full time during breaks

Anonymous said...

You sound bitter. Unfortunately u may nt hve been fortunate to get a good job so dnt say 2/10. On wat basis is ur ratio?? People who are focused n genuine and determined do get very good reputable jobs.....its a matter of competition. Competition with many other graduates who prob hve been working since college till dey graduate baging years of experience. Whilst nigerians who only hve qualification without experience complain dey aint getting jobs. Nigerian economy want Qualification! Uk wants experience!!!!

nobody noticed business secretary Sajid Javid who himself is a bloody immigrant seeking ways of getting rid of international students. how easily they forget their roots.

Anonymous said...

From Emmanuel Adie; To me this is great opportunity for nigerians because after acquiring this knowledge we will then come into our own country to implement it thereby making our economy to be TOP NOTCH and no more working for other countries again.

Anonymous said...

Nobody is bitter here. I am only here to advice those young Nigerians not to invest in a system that will not yield much for them at the end. As at 2008 when I finished students were given 2 years post study visa to work and if you get to the airport you'll see student trooping back home. Why would I pay as high as 12k pounds as tuition and graduated with good grades and I won't be able to get a good job? They prefer to hire one EU nationals that can't even speak English over Nigerians. The stat is there for you to see. Thousands of Nigerians that studied in the UK all come back still looking for jobs in Niaja. People commenting on this blog can testify. I moved to Canada right after my prog in the UK and the difference is clear. No discrimination here, foreigners work even with the government and make cool money. I am a living testimony even became PR in less than 3 years of coming to Canada. And hardly will you see students after graduating from a canadian institution running back to Nigeria. I think that speaks volume of the country. God bless Canada!!!

Anonymous said...

God bless you. U dread the sight of snakes even in picd

Anonymous said...

You are not in the UK. This 2008 graduate has made a salient point. The fellow is very right. We who studied in the UK years back know what it is. Spending thousands of hours applying for jobs then a few interviews that you've done so well and you can't explain why they won't give you the job. Note that their citizens are not more intelligent, cracking unnecessary jokes that lecturers also foolishly make meanings from. Don't come here and be arguing about what your uncle London and aunty London told you!
