Its almost a year and all of a sudden chibok and its environs is the choice place for politicians to visit.

If the conveners and well meaning Nigerians hadn't brought the notice of the international community to this mishap,it would have gone in the way of the murdered 59 boys, Aluu 4 and several other killings.

Some people might say better late than never but I find it somewhat distasteful that a real government(on all levels) would use this as a favor gathering event.

For months, people sacrificed their time, money, emotions and safety to keep attention on the chibok girls, and now a bunch of politicians are swooping in to reap from it.For me,its too little too late and GOD will judge you and your generation (s) IJN.

Amen.

President Jonathan's commitment to education is not debatable. It is as clear as distilled water. He has invested in himself educationally and has ALL his certificates intact. He has built 14 new tertiary institutions and 125 almajiri schools.
Now after the army's successful campaign in the North East, the President is embarking on a schools re-building campaign, beginning with Chibok.
The APC's candidate has no WASC to show to Nigerians, built no tertiary institutions, built no almajiri schools. He has not publicly identified with the clearly forged WASC result which his party's propaganda machinery put out.
If you hate academic fraud and value education and performance, vote Goodluck Jonathan for President.
If you are vulnerable, gullible and helpless, and have Buhari sympathies, handover your PVC to the recycling guys so they cam melt it and make it into something more useful to the society.
It will be the ultimate retrogression to vote for a 73 year old despot who doesn't have any idea on how to get his WASC certificate and has no interest in promoting education.

I don't know why some people always see everything from partisan politics point of view. Some people still believe that the Minister is playing politics. My question to them is: Is Okonjo-Iweala contesting for any office?

Who can ever satisfy Nigerians? The patriotic minister risked her life to go to a crisis-prone area to promote education, yet she’s been criticized.

Olumide Abas said...

QUIT THE ANIMOSITY GUYS! It's never out of place for government to attempt to curry favour from the populace in election periods like this. Just any government around the world would do the same. That's why government is ultimately by the people.

Anonymous said...

The honourable minister should be commended for promoting education despite the dastardly act of the boko haram sect in the north east and also to empathize with the parents of the abducted girls. We shouldn’t always resort to baseless and ridiculous name-calling.

Prince Agbeyemi said...

Thank you madam we love you. Every patriotic Nigerian Loves you

Anonymous said...

I have come to realize that regardless of whatever you do, people will still find fault. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala has selflessly served this nation for several years now and all you can do is point accusing fingers at her. How sad. Why not proffer solutions since you know how best to do the job?

Anonymous said...

If you have nothing positive to say, please keep your destructive criticisms to yourself. You just keep speaking like uncivil and disillusioned people.

It’s always easier to point accusing fingers while sitting down and refusing to contribute meaningfully to what others painstakingly do to make things better.

The Nigerian economy is now the largest in Africa despite the so-called rise in foreign exchange rate. No one should lose sleep over the rise in foreign exchange it is only a sign of growth. Things are changing.
With the economy in the more than capable hands of the charismatic Minister of Finance, Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala no one needs to lose sleep over the rising rate of foreign exchange.
I trust Mrs Iweala

Muyiwa said...

Nigerians can complain too much, people complained that the government did not visit Chibok, now Okonjo-Iweala has visited the place; the action is followed by heavy criticism.

Anonymous said...

Well done Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala. Despite all the risks involved, you still went ahead to record a landmark event in Chibok. I doff my hat. Ignore your detractors and keep doing what you know how best to do- serving your dear country. May you live long ma.

Chris said...

Good job, Madam Okonjo-Iweala, good job president Jonathan. Now you have silenced the tongues of the accusers.

Shaanu Akowe said...

Come off it guys! Okonjo-Iweala had solicited the money for some of this school rebuilding project since last year September. So it is even too late for you detractors and disparagers to want to start to color public opinion about this noble project since you were clueless about how she single-handedly sort funds for it.

Philomena said...

My view is that this woman deserves to be given the Nobel Peace Prize for visiting Chibok as a government minister. afterall what did people like Malala do to be given the prestigious award

Olabimpe said...

If Okonjo Iweala hadn’t gone to Chibok, hatemongers wouldn’t have remembered the Chibok girls. Now she has gone and they aren’t pleased either. There is nothing that satisfies this generation. It’s a shame.

Anonymous said...

Regardless of whatever has happened in the past, Chibok will arise stronger than ever before and by God’s Grace, all the abducted girls will return home safely in one piece. Rather than heat up the polity with our biases and unguarded comments, can we kindly come together in unity to pray for the progress of this great country of ours? Let’s quit tearing down the minister or other leaders with our negative comments and take up encouraging and building our beloved nation.

Bode Shogbile said...

A simple appreciation of this woman is not enough. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala deserves an international award for this latest patriotic act

Okonjo Iweala is always at the forefront of ensuring that the girl child gets the best deal especially when it comes to educating them. I remember that shortly after the Chibok girls were abducted, NOI rallied round global figures and business mogul to pull resources and establish the Safe School initiatives.

Anonymous said...

This is goodnews! As the federal troops are denting a big blow on Boko Haram through the barrel of the gun, Okonjo Iweala is leading the team that is crippling these criminals through education. I believe that when this school is finally rebuilt, more girls in Chibok will have a conduscive atmosphere to learn and become great.

Anonymous said...

Education is the bedrock of any society. I am glad that the federal government under the leadership of the Coordinating Minister of the Economy has deemed it fit to rebuild some of the schools pulled down by Boko Haram. This is surely a welcome development. God bless Madam Iweala. May she never be within the reach of the enemies and terrorists.

Anonymous said...

It is painful that the Chibok girls are still unfound many days after their abduction. But I am consoled because the government is taking drastic action to educate the children of Chibok despite this huge calamity that has befallen the community.

This is a great one having a woman of integrity visit Chibok. This shows that apart from the fact that she was committed even with her resources she went ahead to identify with the people and also encouraged about the future by laying a foundation of education. Madam Iweala your good heart is something Nigerians should emulate.

Cynthia Elombah said...

Most people having been saying or sort. Some said it’s late, others all manner of rubbish. The truth remains that we can all say what we like, but what has been our contribution. For madam Iweala she raised the topic at the World Economic Forum. And she was part of those who initiated the Safe School Initiative with funds to back it up. Madam Iweala good will is all we need to make the country move forward.

Olumide Alayo said...

Empowering people with education is the best legacy a parent can give to a child. Madam Ngozi and the government of the day have made commitment to rebuild the school affected by the book-haram menace. They have raised a fund to that effect. She didn’t just stop there, she went ahead to identify with the people. You are great woman, mother and a mentor to follow. Hope others will learn from you, madam minister.

Chidinma Ihediora said...

Despite the risk of being attacked by a people who I believe are book haram sympathizers, you still went ahead ma to risk your life. This will go down in history and generation unborn will hear of your good works and commitment to our mother land. God bless you madam Ngozi.

Okoro Uzonna said...

It pains me when people just open their mouth to say whatever they like. Will they expect madam minister to go to Chibok when it is not safe? Even the so called military had to flee that area when the battle was tensed. And people are just saying jibrish. Madam minister when to the Chibok, to empower them with education. Something that was missing in previous administration which led to this book haram menace. This is sowing seeds for the next generation of the people that will be educated in the North. They will know their left from their right. Thank you for this good work.
