Zimbabwe bans horror movie: Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Government of Zimbabwe through its visual and audio products muzzling arm, the Censorship Board, has banned the horror movie, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, which cinema sources said was supposed to be on the Zimbabwe cinema circuit this month April.
The Censorship board said the movie was banned for its horror aspects and uncompromising killings and not for political reasons as was earlier speculated.

They also said they have a gate-keeping responsibility to ensure that the public is not exposed to violent material, therefore, the ban.

I didn't particularly like the second version of this movie. It was too unrealistic and the killings were too horrific. But to ban it? I don't know about that

Kigali Gets $25 Million Amusement Park

Rwanda will soon play host to the biggest amusement park in east and central Africa. The Kigali Amusement Park (KAP) project will be worth US$25million after completion.

It is being developed by two leading Rwandan businessmen who have so far invested a combined $2million for phase 1 of the project valued at $6million.
The commercial bank of Rwanda (BRD) has bought shares in KAP worth Rwf100million ($180,000).

The Kigali City Council's stake is in the 100 hectares of land it provided in Gasabo district in Kigali worth $1.7 million where the park is undergoing construction.

After all the things this country has been through (remember April 1994 genocide?), good to know that their people have a place they can go and unwind. Also good to know that their gradually building their country again.

Nigeria: Film Board Launches New Guidelines

The management of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has criticised the poor distribution of Nollywood movies. The board has now launched new guidelines on film censorship and distribution to regulate the film industry.

Last year, about 2085 films were censored. Sorry to say this, but I think half the films produced in this country shouldn't be allowed to be seen by the public. Some of them are too crappy!

Koundandi: A Film About Love and Sacrifice

The award-winning Kounandi is that rarest of films – a film about African women by an African woman. It is the first major film by young Burkinabe director Apolline TraorĂ© and was produced by celebrated director Idrissa Ouedraogo. The film, set in simpler, pre-colonial village society, is told in the style of folktales. Kounandi is an adult fairy tale about love and the sacrifices it sometimes asks of us, but it also addresses social conflict and prejudices.

Lasting only 50 minutes, Koundandi is a relatively short film, but it has its place in African folklore.

The film can be purchased at California Newsreel

Well, these are some of the other things happening in other parts of Africa that I think you all should know about. It took me two hours to get this info for y'all, so blow me kisses in appreciation. Kisses back!!! Ciao!
