A Russian defence military plane  carrying 92 people en route to Syria crashed into the Black Sea near Sochi shortly after takeoff on Sunday, December 25th.

The plane belonging to the Defence Ministry was taking its world famous choir, the Alexandrov Ensemble, to a New Year’s concert at Hemeimeem air base in Syria’s coastal province of Latakia. Those on board also included nine Russian journalists and a Russian doctor famous for her work in war zones.

A man in Kurna Babban Layi area of Kano has planned to marry off his 13-year-old daughter, Bilkisu to his 56-year-old friend, on Friday, December 30th. The father is a Quranic teacher while his friend already has three wives and many grandchildren.

A relative raised the alarm on Saturday, December 24th, when she took the teenager to Freedom Radio office in Sharada for a media campaign against the marriage.

Two people including a police sergeant were killed after a building collapsed at Highway police Barracks in Ikeja, Lagos State yesterday December 25th. The incident happened in the early hours of the day. General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Maganement Agency (LASEMA), Adeshina Tiamiyu who was at the scene of the incident, said the agency received a distress call at about 4am that Wing D of the building had collapsed.

Toddler put in a carton with plantains and dumped in a gutter

According to twitter user Bishop Duke, this little boy was put in a carton with plantain inside and dumped in a gutter on Christmas day. The toddler was able to remove himself from the carton, walked out of the gutter and on to the road, fortunately, he wasn't hit by any vehicle. People saw him and offered him something to drink. Kaduna state gov, Nasir El-Rufai condemns renewed attacks in Southern Kaduna despite 24hr curfew

There was Fresh attacks in Southern Kaduna communities of Goska, Kaninkon chiefdom in Jema’a Local Government Area on Saturday and Sunday despite the 24-hour curfew placed on the area by the state government. Many people including women and children were killed in the attack.

In a statement released by his media aide, Samuel Aruwan, Governor El-Rufai condemned the attacks, describing it as inhumane and handiwork of forces of darkness. The statement in part reads;

Photos: Policeman who killed colleague, shot six people at Zenith bank, Zaria beaten to death by angry mob

A mobile policeman attached to the Zenith Bank, Zaria on December 23, killed his colleague and shot six people who were on ATM queue, including a student of the Umaru Musa Yar'Adua University.

According to an eyewitness, argument ensued between both policemen over access into the banking hall. The policeman that was shot had attempted to enter while the one on duty tried to stop him.

Iconic singer George Michael dies at age 53 on Christmas Day

Singer George Michael passed has died. He reportedly died 'peacefully' at his home in Oxfordshire England yesterday December 25th. He was just 53. A rep for the pop star says,

"It its with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.'

Details surrounding his death haven't been released but he had had previously battled drug and alcohol addiction.

Celebrity Photographer, Ed Ace buried (photos)

Nigerian celebrity photographer, Edwin George popularly called Ed Ace, who died last week has been buried.

Edwin who was meant to be the official photographer for the 2016 Rhythm Unplugged and COPA Lagos festivals died on Thursday December 22, 2016 at the age of 30. He died at LUTH in Lagos after complications arose from an Appendix surgery.
