Question of the day: Why do women bleach their skin?

Mshoza, (pictured above) is a South African singer who underwent skin whitening treatment because 'she was tired of being ugly'.

I understand using skin toning creams...a lot of us women have used it at one time or the other, to 'brighten or 'maintain' the skin complexion, in some cases to make the skin glow, etc etc...

What I do not understand is outright bleaching of the skin complexion. Going from dark-skinned to white-skinned. Why do some women do it? They think bleaching enhances their beauty or black isn't beautiful? Please share your thoughts...

Fear of Boko Haram comes to Lagos as anti-bomb squad is called to Silverbird

Lagos has finally been hit by the fear of Boko Haram. After that prank call to AIT in which an individual claiming to be a rep of the dreaded Islamic sect threatened to attack Lagos and Abuja in 72 hours, most malls/big buildings in the state are now more security conscious and are thoroughly searching cars and individuals before allowing them into their premises.

They searched me and searched my car this afternoon when I entered the Adeniran Ogunsanya shopping mall. First time that will ever happen, and when I asked them why, they said they got intelligence report that BH was planning to bomb a mall in Lagos.

Meanwhile, an anti-bomb squad was invited to Silverbird Galleria this morning to sweep the building.

Lagos State Govt explain why they sacked 788 doctors; now willing to negotiate with them

The Lagos State Government have explained why they sacked 788 striking doctors yesterday. Their reason? The doctors embarked on an 'illegal strike' that contravened the rules guiding strikes in the state's public service.

Meanwhile the government said today that they are willing to resume negotiations with the sacked doctors, whenever they (the doctors) are ready to dialogue with them.

P-Square buy piece of land in Banana Island?

I put a question mark there because it has not been confirmed...yet! But sources close to the music duo say it is true. And why is this news you may ask? Well Banana Island is the most expensive and most exclusive area in Lagos State...its a billionaire's enclave and if they truly have a land there, they will be the first Nigerian entertainers to do so. The exact location of the land and what they plan to do with it, sell or build another mansion, is what they are not telling. If they eventually confirm it, you heard it here first! :-)

Meanwhile, the twins will be performing in Yaounde and Douala on 18th and 20th of May respectively.

Broke national heroes: Does the Government owe them anything?

Rashidi Yekini we heard died penniless. Gringory and a few other past heroes (permit me to call them heroes) also died broke. The guy you see above is Bilyaminu, popularly known as Billy the Kid, a former Nigerian international boxer who won several titles in the 80s. Now he's battling mental illness and lives in a makeshift home near a dump site in Ebute Metta, Lagos.

Some people found out about his condition and are trying to rehabilitate him. They are also calling on the  federal government to help the former boxer.

Which brings me to our topic of the day. These people raised the Nigerian flag in their various fields, and now that they've fallen on hard times, does the government have a responsibility towards them? Please share your thoughts!

The government has already started recruiting new doctors to replace the sacked ones.

In a clip from Oprah's Master Class: Special Edition, Jay Z said he plans to spoil his little girl to pieces:

Everyone imagines they'll be a great dad until their [kids are] teenagers. Get away from me, Dad. You're embarrassing me. I imagine I'll take things I learned from my mom and things I've learned from raising my nephews and apply that. Then at the end of the day, I just know I'll probably have the worst, spoiled little kid ever."

Boko Haram Says AIT Phone-In Interview Call Is Fake

Islamist militant sect Boko Haram has revealed that a purported telephone call made to the African Independent Television (AIT) by a caller pretending to be a Boko Haram spokesperson was fake.
A source close to the sect told Saharareporters that the no one in the sect or any on its leadership initiated a call threatening to attack Lagos and Abuja in 72 hours.

A Nigerian local TV station-African Independent Television- had played a phone call in which an individual claiming to be a representative of Boko Haram threatened to attack Lagos and Abuja in 72 hours.
The caller also requested that Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan unconditionally  meet with the sect in Yobe state, without security, to discuss the terms of a ceasefire, but our most reliable source said the call was a prank pulled by individuals capitalizing on the hysteria created by Boko Haram's recent attacks in northern Nigeria. (Sahara Reporters)

Lebanese murders bureau de change operator over $50,000 in Lagos

The Lebanese killer                      The victim being rolled into the theatre after the incident
Culled from Vanguard

35-year-old Ali Sani, a bureau de change operator in Apapa area of Lagos, least envisaged the tragedy that loomed ahead,  penultimate Monday,  as he set for his office. Like every other bureau de change operator, Ali called on passers-by to patronise him, in his hard currency  changing business.

Later that day, a telephone call, which signaled the beginning of the end of  Ali, came in with  the caller requesting for fifty thousand dollars. The call, according to his colleagues, came as an answered prayer for the  Kano State born operator  who, reportedly, rallied round to make up the amount. But, unknown to him, the caller had a sinister motive.
