Law Maker Dies After Rowdy Session
The confusion and lawlessness reigning in the House of Representatives claimed its first casualty on Wednesday with the death of a member representing Batsari/ Danmusa/Safana Federal constituency of Katsina State , Dr Aminu Safana.Safana, the chairman of committee on Health and one of the strong backers of embattled Speaker, Mrs Patricia Olubunmi Etteh, slumped in the chamber of the House and died at the National Hospital Abuja, where he was rushed to.The late lawmaker was feared to have been hit by serial punches thrown by aggrieved members in the ensuing melee, as he was leading the Speaker into the chamber. House Leader, Tunde Akogun, the last member to speak with the late Safana, said he complained of tiredness and and was about going to the rest room, when he slumped. He was rushed to the lobby where medical officers from the National Assembly clinic examined him and found that his blood pressure had shot up. He was immediately rushed to the National Hospital, where the battle to save his life by doctors ended in vain.

Etteh held hostage
In a move reminiscent of hostage taking, the past time of militants in the Niger Delta, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Patricia Etteh, was yesterday held captive for several hours on the floor of the House. The House resumed plenary session yesterday after a two-week break and was expected to begin the consideration of the David Idoko panel report. But confusion enveloped the House when lawmakers rooting for Etteh’s removal refused to allow her leave the chambers after the House adjourned till today. Members of the Integrity Group, the umbrella group for those opposed to the Speaker, held Etteh hostage insisting that the House could not adjourn until the Speaker stepped down for the Idoko panel report to be considered.

PDP Ask Speaker to step aside
It took the death yesterday of Hon. Aminu Safana, Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Health, for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rein in on the Speaker, Hon. Patricia Etteh, to step aside. In a seeming volte-face, PDP asked Etteh to step aside for the consideration of the Hon. David Idoko panel report saying the Speaker could not be a judge in her own case. The party also lamented the death of Safana, a pro-Etteh lawmaker, describing his death as unfortunate and incredible.

The things happening in the National Assembly is not only shameful, it's mighty disgraceful to our nation. It still baffles me that Patricia Etteh (I refuse to call her Hon.) has refused to step down despite all the allegations leveled against her...but more puzzling is the fact that she has supporters/loyalists in that house.

One of them is dead...may his soul rest in peace...but I hope this tragic, avoidable incident will bring peace and order to the National Assembly and help them focus on their real purpose there.
News, thanks to sun/thisday newspapers.

Sins Of The Father + Common Diseases in Women

I have this neighbour, he's 43, no job, no wife, no kids, lives with a younger friend and feeds from hand to mouth.

We spoke for the first time some days ago and during our talk he blamed his misfortune on his grandfather. He said his paternal grand dad committed so many atrocities when he was alive and had been cursed by several of the people he'd had dealings with.

But he died at the ripe age of 89...naturally! Now, he thinks all the curses are following the grand dad's children and children's children.

He said none of the man's children or grand children made anything of themselves. That no matter how much they try, how hard they work, how much they pray, nothing good ever happens to them. According to him, not one of the man's children or grandchildren was/is successful.

He said his own dad died a pauper and he's also convinced he will die unfulfilled and blames all his woes on a dead family member.

He's so convinced of this because he said that there's a portion in the bible where it's written that "The sins of the parents lie on the heads of their children". I don't know where it is in the bible...

Anybody who knows where this is written in the bible should pls give me the verse.

Is there anyone who believes that a parents' sins can be passed on to their children?

Let me know your thoughts.

Meanwhile, here are common diseases found in women. Read this if you have the time, it could be useful to you.

Common Diseases In Women
Acne
It is a common inflammatory skin disease that mainly affects the face, neck, chest and upper back. it is caused by an interaction between hormones, bacteria and sebum produced by the comedones (pimples), pustiles (lesions filled with pus) and occasionally CYSTS. This is possibly caused by changing hormone levels.
Mild cases may be eased by washing the face with a gentle toilet soap or by drying agents such as benzoyl peroxide. Severe acne may need oral treatment with antibiotics such as tetracycline or hormone therapy such as Dianette, which also acts as a Contraceptive.
Very severe acne can be treated using a derivative of Vitamin A, called tretinoin or Retin A. This cream is applied in each night and takes about 3 weeks to be effective. An oral version called Ro- accutane is very good against severe acne but carries serious risks of foetal abnormality during pregnancy.

Amenorrhoea (Absence of periods)
It is a failure to have periods, which may be described as primary or secondary . Primary amenorrhoea is the failure to menstruate by age 16, and the main cause is the late onset of puberty. A girl may have the other signs of puberty but lack of periods. this may be a cause of a pituitary tumor, which can be found via a skull X -ray , or because of cryptomenorrohea, where menstrual bleedings does occur but it is held inside the vagina by an obstruction such as imperforate Hymen. The condition may arise because parts of the female reproductive system are missing. The most common reason for primary amenorrhoea is disruption of the relationship between the ovaries and the pituitary gland.
Secondary amenorrhoea occurs when a woman stops menstruating for 3 months or more after normal menstrual periods have been established but before the onset of the Menopause. It may arise as a result of stress, chronic diseases. Stopping the contraceptive pill, which affects hormone production in the brain , can cause amenorrhoea for up to a year, and it may arise after child birth and breast feeding. Failure of ovaries, prompting a premature menopause before the age of 40, is another cause. Amenorrhoea is permanent after the menopause or if the uterus is removed in a Hysterectomy

Leucorrhoea
A discharge of white-yellow coloured mucus from the vagina. it may be normal condition, increasing before and after menstruation, but a copious vaginal discharge, especially if it has a strong smell, probably indicates an infection in the genital tract. A common cause is thrush, but it may also be because of Gonorrhoea or some other sexually transmitted disease.

Osteoporosis
A condition in which the amount of bone mass decreases to the point where the bones are fragile and easily fractured, affecting twice as many women as men. Women are particularly risk from the osteoporosis as they have a lower density of bone, because of smaller body size than men. The risk increases those who have a premature menopause, early hysterectomy, previous anorexia nervosa etc. Also women who smoke or drink excessively are at the greater risk. Weight-bearing exercise , a diet rich in calcium, Vitamin D and other minerals, and not smoking can help to prevent bone loss. Hormone replacement therapy is the most effective preventive treatment but is not suitable for all women. Physiotherapy and acupunture can help to relieve pain. Osteoporosis can be detected by doing Bone Density Test

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
It is an inflammation of the Fallopian Tubes, ovaries and Uterus. The disease can be acute or chronic. Acute PID causes severe abdominal pains, high fever , chills, foul-smelling vaginal discharge and abdominal tenderness. PID is a result of bacterial infection, but chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are responsible for mini cases. Treatment is by means of antibiotics and bed rest. The condition usually improve within two weeks. But if not, another antibiotics is given. If 3 courses of antibiotics do not clear the infection, then the disease is deemed to have become chronic, Chronic PID results in a low level of infection that can continue for weeks or months.
Symptoms are persistent abdominal pain or cramps, fatigue, weakness and very heavy menstrual periods. Some mild cases have few or no symptoms but can cause partial or total infertility.

Gonorrhoea
It is an extremely common venereal or sexually transmitted disease, that is caused by the bacterium Neissera-gonorrhoeae. The bacteria are found in the Mucous Membrances of the Vagina, Urethra, throat and mouth. If gonorrhoea is not treated it can damage and inflame the Fallopian Tubes and other pelvic organs, and this can arise after only 8-10 weeks. Other possible damage includes eye infection that can cause blindness, septicaemia (blood poisoning), Gonococcal Arthritis, it may occur in conjunction with a painful skin rash and inflammation of heart valves. Symptoms of gonorrheoa include vaginal discharge (green or yellow in colour), Dysuria, possible inflammation of the rectum and a sore throat . To diagnose the disease, swabs of the discharge are obtained and organisms grown are identified in the laboratory. Treatment is by a single , very large dose of penicillin, or tetracycline if the organisms is resistant to penicillin.

Mastitis inflammation of the breast
It occurs usually because of bacterial infection during breast feeding. Symptoms include, pain in the affected breast, tenderness, swelling, fever and possibly a chill. Treatment with warm compress and antibiotics normally resolves the condition. If the inflammation does not subside then a breast abscess may form.

Menorrhagia
It is menstruation with abnormally heavy or prolonged blood flow. This may be frequent periods, one that continuous for 7 days or more, or one with exceptionally heavy flow over two to three days. Menorrhagia can occur because of fibroids, inflammation in the pelvic cavity, an Intrauterine device (IUD) or hormonal imbalance.
The bleeding can cause anaemia with pallor fatigue, which can be treated with iron supplements. Treatment depends on the cause and may include a D and C, the combined contraceptive pill, removal of an IUD, or danazol, a drug that inhibits the hormones produced by the pituitary gland.
Here's wishing my younger sis, Benita, a happy birthday.
Cheers everyone!

When A Man Loves A Woman...by Percy Sledge (1966)

Yesterday, someone said and did something that got me thinking about how powerful a man's love can be.

I started playing 'When A Man Loves A Woman' over and over again. Smiling!

But then, reality hit me hard an hour later, when I saw a video of Mark Anthony and his ex-wife, former Miss World, Dayanara Tores, re-marrying. Y'all know they separated for a while and when they got back together, they re-newed their vows?

At their second wedding, Mark shed huge tears as his wife walked down the aisle to meet him. He was crying like a sweet crazily in love man who couldn't believe how lucky he was to be marrying his dream woman. As she got to him, Mark mouthed "You're so beautiful, I Love You So Much".

Who has seen that video?

After the wedding, he said the day was even more beautiful for him than their first wedding because Dayanara was giving him another chance at happiness. (She had walked out of the marriage for reasons best known to them).

But the thing is; less than TWO years after that spectacular wedding, Mark went to Puerto Rico to get a VERY quick divorce from Dayanara, so he could marry J LO.

What does that say about men's attention/love span?

I listened to this song over and over and over again. And I've been trying to analyse the lyrics. Some of us have loved and been loved but how realistic are this words?

Let's break it down together

When a man loves a woman
Can't keep his mind on nothin' else (I agree...to an extent...but that won't stop him from...?)

He'd trade the world
For a good thing he's found (Hmmm...?)

If she is bad, he can't see it
She can do no wrong (Really?)

Turn his back on his best friend
If he puts her down (It's possible...)

When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime (He will spend his dime...but 'his very last dime'? lol)

Trying to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comforts
And sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way It ought to be (I only see a man sleeping out in the rain for me...in my dreams)

When a man loves a woman
I give you everything i got (yeah)

Trying to hold on
To your precious love

Baby please don't treat me bad (I won't baby...but maybe you will)
When a man loves a woman

Deep down in his soul
She can bring him such misery (that's true...but his...will still be working! lol)

If she is playing him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Loving eyes can never see (hmmmm....ok!)

Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
'cause baby, baby, baby I am a man
When a man loves a woman

Let me ask this question: Who is more foolish when in love? Men or women?

Heeeelp, I'm vanishing. + How to loose weight + How to slow down the aging process

I don't know what's wrong with me, I've been loosing weight like a sick person in the last month or so. In fact that's the reason I haven't shot another episode of my TV show. My director and producer have refused to put me in front of the camera until I add a little more weight.

Two weeks ago, I weighed 53 kg. When I checked yesterday, I weighed 49 kg...don't know how much it's measured in pounds, but that's really really unhealthy, considering my height!

This is what I used to look like...this was 5/6 years ago. See how chubby and healthy I used to look?

This is what I look like now...this photo was taken two days ago. Me and my mommy! See how big my head is compared to the rest of my body? lol! Can you see how my bones are hanging out? See how tiny my arms are? No longer sexy!

My mum doesn't even like looking at me anymore lol...she complains and complains and complains...

So help me people, what do I do? I need to weigh at least 55 kg (according to my director) before I can appear on TV, otherwise, we will be getting a lot of criticisms about my weight. He says I look sick.

I eat well, I sleep well, I take vitamins, appetite stimulants...still I'm skinny.

And no, I don't have AIDS...I already checked. lol!
And no, I'm not depressed or anything like that...in fact I'm having me a really beautiful time right now.
And no, I'm not stressed, I enjoy everything I do.

So what the heck is the problem?

I can't shoot my TV programme and the photo shoot I was supposed to do has been cancelled...TWICE! They said my body was unflattering to the dress...imagine!lol

Maybe I should just fire my director and get someone who thinks I look healthy enough?

Ok, maybe that's not such a good idea! Besides, there's something really special happening in 2/3 weeks and I want to look real cute for that...

So what do I do? Who can give me advice? How do I add 5 kg in 2 weeks?

Any experts reading this? Pls give me advice.

While I'm waiting for your advice, I want to say that there are those who might like my slimness and want to shed all that fat on their body...well, here's how YOU can loose weight.

How to loose weight

1. Determine your daily calorie intake. Losing weight is simply a matter of expending more calories than you take in, through exercise and your daily activities.
2. Plan your meals. Look for healthy, delicious meals online or in your cookbooks, and create a menu for the week.
3. Graze on healthy snacks. Just because you're getting healthy doesn't mean you can't snack. In fact, eating small meals and snacks throughout the day, or grazing, has been shown to aid weight loss, (compared to eating three large meals a day), by keeping metabolism steadier.
4. Just Get more fiber. There are many myths about fiber, but there is science to back up its helpful role in the diet. Fiber keeps the right amount of water in your intestines, making your digestive system work more efficiently and helping to keep you regular.
5. Drink plenty of water. Adequate Adequate water is essential for health, and a great many people simply don't get enough
6. Exercise. Remember you can lose weight either by decreasing your calorie intake or increasing the number of calories you burn. Any health strategy should include both, but if you want to lose weight fast, exercise is essential.
7. Perform high-level aerobic activities. Pump some iron. Resistance training, (weight training), can help both sexes stay lean by building muscle and raising metabolism.
8. Rest properly. This means not only taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, (and taking 1-2 days off from exercising each week); it also means getting enough sleep at night, since sleep deficiency impairs your ability to lose fat.
9. Be realistic. Don't expect a miracle. Healthy weight loss can be achieved fairly quickly, but you'll need to be patient.
10. Make adjustments. A successful weight loss strategy based on reducing calorie intake and increasing activity can be adjusted to maintain your desired weight once you reach it

Sometimes, I feel like I look older than my age...sometimes I feel I look younger. For those of you aging TOO FAST, here are tips on ways to slow it down a little.

11 Ways to slow down the aging process

1. Change your perception of time. Don't be in a hurry.
2. Get restful sleep.
3. Eat fresh, nutritious food.
4. Take at least two multivitamins with minerals every day.
5. Practice a mind body technique such as yoga or tai chi.
6. Exercise regularly.
7. Don't put toxins in your life, including toxic food, toxic
emotions, toxic relationships, and avoid toxic environments or toxic relationships.
8. Have a flexible attitude to minor hassles.
9. Look at so-called problems as opportunities.
10. Nurture loving relationships.
11. Always have an attitude of curiosity, learning, and wonder and spend time with children.

By the way, I hung out with Excited Jade and Tayo Odukoya yesterday. It was a fab outing. Ask excited, I was eating pastries and Ice cream like a mad woman...she wondered where all the food was going to...God help me sha! lol!

I also hear that some bloggers (home and abroad) are planning a Xmas party here in Nigeria, since most of y'all are coming home.Wow, that's something to look forward to. I'll put ears to the ground for any new gists about it.

Meantime, have a fab day!

Naija Entertainment Gists + Overrated

Dakore Egbuson and Olu Akande quote

You all know beautiful actress, Dakore Egbuson, has been in a sizzling romance with the only son of Nigerian Billionaire, Harry Akande? Well, the news going round now is that the parents do not approve of the relationship because of Dakore's chosen career. But the actress has described as untrue the tale that the parents of her fiance Olumide Akande, are not in support of the union. And are doing everything possible to continue to disunite them. Including threatening to disown their only son.

Hear Dakore
"I can confidently tell you there's no such thing. I am in love with him, and we are dating but right now there's no marriage plan btw us. We are just lovers."

Hear Olu Akande
"I want to tell you categorically that the story that my parents are against my girlfriend Dakore is not true. If the story did not come from my mum and dad, you should know it's not true. Their relationship is very cordial, solid. In fact, my parents love her. You see, Dakore is a private person. Even my dad. He will not like seeing his name on the pages of newspapers. Even me too, I don't like seeing my name on the pages of newspapers"

First off, Harry Akande is a politician.
Olu Akande is dating a popular actress
And you don't want your names on the pages of newspapers? Sorry mate...you'll always be in the news.
Second off...if this story is true...should Dakore quit her acting career to marry the man she loves? Is it worth it at the end of the day?

Comedian, Klint d drunk, impregnates undergraduate

I don't like to write about celebs I know personally...like Klint...I feel a little guilty because this stories might not be true...but maybe this one is...here goes.

According to rumour, Klint de drunk, who is making plans to marry his longtime girlfriend, Gillian, is neck deep in a controversial pregnancy mess. The pregnancy, which he is yet to accept is two months gone and the girl in question is one Chioma Okafor, a yr 3 Sociology undergraduate of the University of Nigeria. Chioma called the press and this is what she had told them.

Chioma Okafor"My pregnancy is about two months now and since then Klint has abandoned me. He has stop picking my calls" She went further to explain how they met, all the promises he made to her and how she fell pregnant. "I decided to keep the baby because everybody in my family is now aware, and they've been supportive"

Well, trust our Naija journalists. They called Kilnt and this is what he had to say.

Klint "I am not confirming or denying the story, but I know it's the plans of my enemies to affect my future and career and this is actually coming at a time I am planning to settle down."

First and foremost, a child is God's gift...how the hell is a child going to affect his future?
Secondly, if you're engaged to be married...why have unprotected sex with another woman?
Klint, no be your enemies...na your condo lack of control cause am! lol!

Shan George's reality TV show

Actress, Shan George has started her own TV reality show called Team 36, a tourism based reality TV show geared towards attracting attention to the tourism sector. The show will task the historical, cultural and political knowledge of the contestants. To enter the contest, text T36 to 33418. It will cost you only N50.

Ben Bruce weds again

Seriously I don't know if this one is true, but the Nigerian press are claiming that Ben Murray Bruce has married his long time girlfriend and baby mama, Tina Vuckor Quarshie in a quiet traditional ceremony some weeks back. Hmmm, is this true, then I must say I'm really disappointed. Getting another woman pregnant while married is a shame, but marrying her on top of a loving, loyal wife of many years is just unfair.

If you were Ben Bruce's wife, will you continue in the marriage?

Meanwhile, they say his son, Jonathan Murray Bruce, Ben's 20+ first son has taken over the running of Silverbird Galleria as the GM, upstaging Tina and reversing some of the decisions Tina took, while in charge. Some of the people laid off by the former banker, have been recalled by Jonathan. War in the family lol!

Michael Bolton on Nigeria

Michael Bolton was in Nigeria some weeks (Sept 28th, Civic Centre) back to perform to a select few who could afford 100grand per ticket and N1 or 2 million per VIP table. Nonsense to that! Anyway, here's what Michael had to say about Nigeria
"This is actually my first time visiting Nigeria. It's a great country. I wouldn't have come if it's not great. I never knew you guys were so hospitable. You should keep it up. With the little I've seen, I believe I have fans here. Great country"
Beautiful country...some crazy people. 100grand to go watch Michael Bolton? Seriously? And people paid? Shaking my head in wonder!

Majek Fashek's album release suspended

The release which was earlier scheduled for the last quarter of this year has now been shifted till the first quarter of next year due to undisclosed reasons. Meanwhile, his record company, November Records, are fervently working on the film that tells the life story of Majek, titled 'The Rainmaker' and are hoping to release the movie by the first quarter of next year.

Ara set to debut

Drummer and singer, Ara, has finally finished recording her long awaited album and will be on her way to the US anytime from now for the mastering. She also now runs her own entertainment company called Ara entertainment Productions. Expect her album soon.

Oh, by the way, the Black Eyed Peas will be performing tomorrow at the Thisday Events Centre on Lekki...also scheduled to perform is D'banj.

Overrated

Not my own words o...but enjoy!

Posh and Becks
Let's face it – he's an overpaid footballer who doesn’t play that much, and she's an assortment of body parts that can't dent the charts on her own. And yet the world seems fascinated by what they'll do next, which is usually a combination of looking intellectually challenged, sporting "fashion" or peddling perfume, none of which is particularly newsworthy. But who and what else should we hear less about?

Adam Sandler

Sandler has a (lack-of) talent for playing a variety of characters throughout his unfortunately successful career, ranging from the inept fool in Happy Gilmore, the inept fool in Mr Deeds and the inept fool in Big Daddy. When he does try something different, the change is refreshing but let's face it – anyone else could do a better job for example Jamie Foxx who replaced Sandler as the taxi-driver in Collateral.

Genesis
Genesis are a terrible band of biblical proportions. Yhey have recently reformed so we get to experience that terror once again, just when we thought it was safe to turn the radio back on. The majority of their concerts are epic lessons on annoying sound scapes, being pretentious and baffling the audience about how they got so far. While Peter Gabriel emerged relatively unscathed, Genesis was the springboard that launched Phil Collins' career – the man with more Oscars than Johnny Depp.

Golf
Golf is a ridiculous sport, and no matter how many people watch or play it, it’s a lonely man's game. The only competition is yourself - it's not like the players actually interact with each other. No, that would too interesting. Instead, golf showcases silly men with too much time on their hands who dress like 1920s teddy bears to hit a tiny ball into a tiny hole hundreds of yards away, in complete silence. The only worthwhile spawn of golf is 'Caddyshack'.

Faith healing
It's a miracle! Actually, it's an over the top hoax targeted primarily at the gullible south of America. With just one touch of the hand, any ex-used car salesman/faith healer can make the blind see, the legless walk and the hundreds of happy-clappy church goers shout "Praise the Lord!" without realising that they're getting conned on live TV. If their suspiciously lucrative over-the-top antics with 'randoms in the crowd' are true why haven't they used these mighty money swindling powers to abolish golf?

Billy Corgan
Billy Corgan has single-handedly ruined what was a good band (The Smashing Pumpkins) with his complete inability to sing, dance, write worthwhile poetry or be a decent front-man in any shape or form. It's not that he can't play guitar or write music well, it's just that he sabotages any glimmer of talent that he may have had by opening his mouth in front of a microphone. Only then do you realise that there's a stoned, wounded and mentally challenged cat screaming to get out.

Dogs that wear clothes
Look at that poor guy. There should be laws that require anyone who dresses their pets to be sentenced to wear the same clothes in public, and let their dogs walk them to wherever they want to go. Unfortunately crimes like this against man's best friend have been going unpunished for quite some time. These people should be warned that dogs have fur, and don't need to be adorned with novelty nonsense like this.

Custom cars
They think that their pimped up rides are great to look at, but let's face it – these people are a menace to society. Half the time they'll take a perfectly good car and destroy it by putting a swimming pool in the back or some other "essential" feature. The other half of the time, these children will think that sprucing up a Fiat Panda by adding a spoiler and a loud exhaust will gain them instant sex appeal. Either way it's a showboating waste of money.

Cupcakes
Cupcakes are a waste of time too, even to look at. They have almost as many calories as a Big Mac and don't fill you up at all, and they're so out of scale they're infantilizing. It feels like they were invented by snobbish elves who want to curse the world into eating novelty cakes in a desperate attempt to abolish the fork. Same goes for the miniature pork pie!

Brad Pitt
Brad Pitt has his moments of being a good actor such as in Twelve Monkeys and Babel, but most of the time he's a cheese-bucket coasting by on his good looks and by doing whatever his girlfriends say. Let's reflect on Brad's lack of spine/interchangeable personality: When he was dating Gwyneth Paltrow he was "the trendy guy partying in Soho", with Jennifer Aniston he was "the guy next door" and when he's dragging his feet behind Angelina Jolie he's the "goon with the silly hats, playing with his plethora of mixed-raced kids, casually ranting politics and humanity when all he should be doing is taking his shirt off". And he dresses like a clown too.

Ok, that's all folks. See y'all later. Cheers
