"I feel sorry for Goodluck Jonathan" - Etcetera writes

From Mr. Etcetera...
I think I am the most criticised President in the whole world, but I want to tell this audience that before I leave, I will be the most praised President,” said President Goodluck Jonathan at the opening of the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association at the International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Hey guys, I guess you know that pointing fingers is not my style, hahaha, just as I know that it will be difficult to find a single Nigerian who hasn’t pointed fingers at President Goodluck Jonathan since he became President. But really, can so many fingers be pointed at a single individual all at the same time? Some people have gone to the extent of saying that since Jonathan took office, everything has gone to hell in a handbasket. Others have held him responsible for everything that has gone wrong in the country, from the tear in their pants to the economy. Trust me: Nigerians are beginning to agree that when it comes to assigning blame, look to Jonathan first. There are some hardliners who don’t care if Jonathan wasn’t President during the civil war. He must have been thinking about it, and that’s good enough reason for them. They even say that if he hadn’t been sticking his nose into government, the civil war wouldn’t have happened. Funny, Nigerians have found the perfect target for dealing with their bad days. Late to work? Blame Jonathan! Did the soup in the fridge melt when you weren’t looking? It’s Goodluck Jonathan. Can’t find your smelling socks? Jonathan! Your baby pees on the chair, again? Jonathan. The possibilities are endless! Hey, are we not just being unfair to Goodluck Jonathan? We blame him for all and everything. Even for things that are not his fault. Let me ask you something sir or madam, if Jonathan is to blame for everything wrong in Nigeria today, what becomes of the previous presidents under whose regimes most of these problems started?

On Tuesday evening on my way back from NTA, I stopped at the Bar Beach to buy suya. I was a little bit early because I met the aboki lighting his charcoal. As I waited, I saw two weird looking rastas looking like archangels Michael and Gabriel in their white Cele garments walk down to just about five yards from the water, raised their holy robes in unison like atilogwu dancers trying to master a new dance routine and bent down and began to defecate. Couples of minutes later, I heard them walking back complaining of how dirty and smelly the beach had become from what it used to be. As they passed by me, the taller one said “omo naija, presido no dey try at all. See as this place don yamayama finish, dem no dey see as those oyinbo beach be for inside film wey we dey watch?” At that point, I couldn’t hold back my anger. I just had to say something: “Shebi na una just shit finish for that place so? And una get mouth dey blame the president. Una see him shit for there?”

We are having a distant relationship with the truth in this country. We have developed that rare ability to be hypocritical and not so much as give a damn whether we are equally guilty of the things we are blaming on others. In truth, Goodluck Jonathan should roll up his sleeves, spit on his palms and get to work on a lot of things. We keep saying that corruption escalated under his regime but why do we keep failing to associate it with the fact that these corrupt individuals are Nigerians? I listened to some custom officers saying that If it wasn’t for Goodluck Jonathan’s backward policies, everything at the Nigerian borders would be perfect. Yes, let us keep dumping everything on Goodluck Jonathan. Even our own responsibilities as citizens. He’s the reason our custom and police officers are more interested in collecting bribes than fighting crime and checking for contraband goods coming into the country. It is also Jonathan’s fault that the security operatives at the Lagos airport have all turned beggars. Should the president also take the rap for the Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria not being able to see that the nation is littered with fake products? Maybe Goodluck Jonathan should be with him daily and point him towards fake products and manufacturers. The fight to save this country does not begin or stop at Janathan’s table. It must be an all Nigerian battle. Let the pastors stop praying for corrupt politicians and tell them to their faces to stop stealing public funds. If all drivers have their complete vehicle papers and obey traffic laws, there will be no need to give out money to the police and we will be on our way to a better society.

Ask yourself where your governor got the billions he spends on frivolities? People in the rural areas of Akwa Ibom state are living in thatched houses and we are building another stadium? Have you tried asking what the Abia State Government did with the state’s allocation for eight years? Do you think President Jonathan will be allowed a minute of sleep if he failed to remit monies due to the states? So why then do we pour all the blames on him? Your governor owns empty estates in Dubai and factories in South Africa when people of their states are homeless and jobless, is that Jonathan’s fault too? Where did we get the preposterous notion that President Jonathan took office and people started having trouble finding jobs? Did we have a zero unemployment rate in the country before President Jonathan? Millions of Nigerians are working their asses out and dying as contract staffs and casual workers, where is the NLC? Is it not aware of the appalling working conditions Nigerian workers are subjected to by multinationals? Of course, it is all Jonathan’s fault. Last time I checked, Jonathan was a president or a magician. Should he be doing the job of the NLC too, supervising every sector of the country at the same time? Let us be truthful to ourselves, since when have we had good roads in this country? Were there roads in the country that Jonathan destroyed? Have we had electricity in the country before President Jonathan? We say Boko Haram started as a result of poverty and lack of education in the North, were there schools in the North that Jonathan destroyed? Trust me, the architects of Boko Haram know what they’re talking about when they say it is all Jonathan’s fault.

For everyone out there, below are a list of things Goodluck Jonathan is yet to be blamed for, so go ahead and make your pick and let the blame game continue: Cancer, AIDS, racism, air pollution, sin, child porn, human meat at Jankara market, home video, obesity, Drake sleeping with everyone’s chic, Kim Kardashian’s nude picture, tribalism and every other kind of ism, Arsenal’s trophyless seasons, Facebook, Twitter and Wizkid’s last album.

A MUST READ.

I am not a fan of either GEJ or GMB, am just a concerned and angry citizen. The major problem tearing this country apart is corruption. If it can be eliminated, our problem is over. This idiot called GEJ has been in power for like 6 years, nothing to show, increased fuel price from 65 to 97, despite the increment, nothing worthy has happened to the country.we suffering the price change, our currency is falling 1$ to 180 naira or there about, never happened in Nigerian history, only a dumb person would think he won't still finally increase fuel price from 97 to 150 as intended if he happens to win the next election. Honestly I don't know what Buhari has to offer the country but one thing I am sure of is, he will eliminate corruption. Clean the stains within the cabinet, the thieves and ogas at the top will be forced to do their jobs. The cabinet and other polititians will be scared to misbehave. Tell me how our entitlement as the 3rd party as the citizen no go reach us. Money will flow. Jobs will be available. We igbos think we are the smartest, but I think we are the dumbest. Is it being sentimental and tribalistic that will put food on the table? Biafra Don pass, it's the present and future that matters. Maybe it's biafra that will pay our children school fees. The clueless man has failed for 6 years, he ha soothing but more failure to deliver to the country. Let's allow something different, let's give a trial, let's have a change, let buhari go for the first 4 years. If he has nothing to deliver, we vote the idiot out too.

If we can praise the president for the works done on Lagos-ore road, airport rehabilitation and railway rehabilitation, why can't we berate him when there is insecurity on the land.
For your information, government is a continuum, he inherited wealth from previous administration and also the unsolved problems.

Goodluck is to be blamed for more than of half the things happening in the country believe it or not.
You see, a president's style and principles invariably and inadvertently rubs off on his subordinates.

STORY: I used to be a church department leader and my style of paying tithes was my subordinates styles, my way of praying with them, they adopted, my dedication, swiftness and drive, they all took it on. I didn't understand it until my successor came in. that one was so relaxed that even the most junior of us became laxed in our duties in the fellowship.

Leadership is everything. even though many of us are leaders one way or the other, the head of a country/state is expected to exhibit qualities that are worthy of emulation so his people know the standard expected of them. if this happens, we'd be seeing a Judas amongst twelve instead of eleven Judases amongst twelve. sigh.

May God bless you my fellow compatriot, we Nigerians are so blind to the truth even when it is so conspicuous in our faces. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been the best democratic leader this great Nation has produced, but we allow saboteurs to feed us with their junks in order to rubbish his administration. One day we will surely realise how well he meant for Nigeria/Nigerians.

Funmi_Joy said...

Lol... dude's crazy. Drove home his point wif all 'em humour in it. Seriously tho, Jonathan's tenure has been laced wif a lot of evil... like the opposite of goodluck? not all of 'em evil is his fault tho. Infact, I pity him too, he has lost some serious weight ever since he became Presido, I mean, what's the use of all the money u gather if you can't even have peace of mind. He is being fingered from left, right and centre and he is still so calm about it. If I were in his shoes, I ain't comin' for no second tenure. Will just make do with the much share i've gotten from the National cake till now. But then, Politicians will rather die 'in active service' than give up honourably. All these old men I started hearing about while I was still in Primary school(social studies)... Peeps like IBB, Buhari etc.... I wonder when the turn of the youths - the supposed leaders of tomorrow will be?. Like they say, Power corrupts, but absolute Power corrupts absolutely.

When your president has made it clear that what the public officials are doing is 'common stealing', why wont they steal more? it has been endorsed by the prez already.

in fact, let's trash this szchit out. stealing is the corruption we're experiencing, stealing is the bug causing fits in every sector. As long as you have thieves as heads in your org, nothing works. Was Akunyili known for stealing? did NAFDAC work in her time?

When they come into government with the mind of siphoning funds, they leave the things they are supposed to do and take take take. with the little that's left, they build substandard structures(bad roads, airports) and pay half salaries or nothing at all. the tiny drops of milk from a filled tank that the pple at the bottom have managed to squeeze out doesn't satisfy them and they go into robbery and other vices. the police force have become robbers too forcing money off motorists at gun point. Does someone know the obvious reason??

Yes take a serious issue and make it frivolous, yes do that why don't you Etcetera. That's how you get votes for your candidate. Seriously who blames the president for soup melting on their counter top, I know that was an attempt at being smart but you failed woefully. It wasn't intelligent, it wasn't smart.

What most serious minded people blame the president for is the insecurity in the country, the state of the country, the unemployment rate, corruption, etc. Please where are the missing girls or we should just forget about that because it wasn't Jonathan that kidnapped them. Please if you don't know the duties and the huge responsibility that comes with being the president of a country keep quiet.

Obama inherited a horrible economy, a couple of months later that bad economy was his. People didn't care to know that this was caused by years of bad decision making. All people cared about was, he's the current president so he needed to fix it.

So please let's stop this whining about being the most criticized president in the world, he's not even close. Nigerians are actually very forgiving people. The things that happen on a daily basis in Nigeria can't happen anywhere else, they'll have demanded his head a long time ago

U are into yahoo you cheat and even support wicked politicians for selfish gain. Enough of our blame game and lazy attitude. If APC means change why not give us a better and younger candidate, must it be a Buhari who will be 80 at the peak of his tenure if he wins? what happened to people like fashola? Why not his likes? I already see and feel change even though gradual with good luck, all he needs is our cooperation and support. If we truely want change let support this on going change, otherwise let the blame game continue.

trust me, even in a democratic state, we can still be liberal and disciplined. Im totally against GEJ because he just lacks the willpower to keep his people at bay.

Do you know as the GCOFR, the prez can inspire these soldiers so much that they'd be willing to die for their country. All GEJ is interested in anyway is his 3rd term bid. So I blame him for EVERY DAMN THING going wrong. Our IMAGE, POOR IDEAS, KILLINGS, MUTINY, CORRUPTION, OPPRESSION OF THE POOR, HIKE IN PRICES..endless.

This guy is right but also Mr president decide not to take accurate decision in some aspect.
for example, I never expect him to terminate/ wipe out the entire Boko haram members at once but I expect him to curb & brought their action to low level in which boko haram power & operation won't have great effect within the society

GEJ was expected to provide leadership and design policies for the good governance of the nation. The extent to which he had avhieved about 30% of this is subject to debate. GEJ has performed in some areas but you do not expect to have the likes of Dr Adesina, Okonjo Iweala et al without some measure of progress. These little achievements have been overshadowed by the speculated diversion of funds at the NNPC. Subsidy excesses and corruption is at its uppermost under GEJ, at least he confirmed that stealing is not corruption. The Governors you are highlighting are reflecting perfectly what their leadervis doingvin their states, after buying N9billion worth of stoves for rural women South Africa.

If a football team stops winning matches maybe cos some players are defiant, wouldn't follow instructions, come late to training and so on, the coach gets kicked off the football club over time. Yes the coach is not totally at fault but he get sacked simply cos he is not able to influence the team positively. And in most cases (if not all), the clubs always get it right. They bring in new coach and the team start winning matches, players start behaving orderly and such.

Now, Jonathan is the coach; the team players, Nigerians; the club, Nigeria. Therefore, just as the club won't blame the defiance of the players (or even the sporting director for not buying the right players) but rather the coach, so do we not blame Nigerians for the failure of the country but rather the president for not being influential enough to effect change in attitude and mentality.

And just like the football clubs, we will continue to sack coaches till we find the right one that will bring us back (if ever was) to our winning ways!

Wonderful writeup.my president GEJ has suffered cos he doesn't seem to be a micro manager.he belives and places so much trust in people he apointed and at the end most of them dissapoint not only him but Nigerians in general. Nigerians are born "blame traders" and blaming GEJ is nothing personal just business

Anonymous said...

Ah ah Madam Ikeji how much did collect from GEJ people this time again?? He may not be blame for all the ills of Naija but just so u know Nigerians know GEJ is fully involved in this Bokoharam issue.

Anonymous said...

Lol... spot on! am beginning 2 fall in luv with dis guy. He dares 2 say d bitter-truth.

Anonymous said...

Blood of Isaac!! Maybe while we are playing the "blame" game, why don't we blame Goodluck for my loosing a "blinking" contest. Hehehe

Unknown said...

Same thing I was telling my colleagues some days ago, change starts with You. Some Nigerians need serious orientation else we'll just keep apportioning blames instead of tackling issues at hand..You should see where some people actually argues and point fingers without facts. Just hearsay. When pushes come to shoves, those finger pointing will still be d ones guilty of their accusations. Once more, let's start doing the right thing and collectively, things will get better.

yawanow said...

I agree with his write up. He shouldn't be blamed for everything likewise blaming the past leaders when he is in a position to impact positive and lasting change in piloting the affairs of the country.

Unemployment, security, basic amenities is enough to lay a foundation if quantified as money.
The stage we are is like clearing the field, molding block due to poor decision making and oppositions.

Etcetera is such a foolish person. I tot he is learned. Imagine that? Now I see what d fool is aiming at - favor from d corrupts jona government where everything is possible. U jst nailed urself fool

Like it or not, the president is responsible for the state of the nation. Is this write up to say his tank is empty so he hires Etc to absolve him of his failures? A president isn't a figure head. He is omnipotent capable of affecting every aspect of citizen life for better or worse. Rwanda's Paul Kagame runs his country like that. GEJ should take a cue.

manny said...

I always ask pipo to tell me d last time nigeria had a sitting president they liked. We called Yaradua mr go slow till he slowly passed away. We all prayed for abacha to die n when he finally did we nw miss him. We even miss abasanjo nw. Funny nigerians. 2 yrs after jonathan am sure we all gonna miss him. We'll remember as d man dat respected rule of law like yaradua. Dat never harrassed pipo wit efcc. Election is no longer a do or die. Pdp zoned speakership to south west but acn a mainly south west oposition party teamed up wit oda oposition parties to install a northerner. Jonathan did not fight it. Would they have tried dat under obasanjo. D sound of boko haram bomb has drowned out d sounds of his acheivements. I said if d oposition cant give us a better candidate like Donald Duke, Fashola or El Rufai as president then i'll stick wit jona. U tink fighting corruption as a military head of state is same during democracy where rule of law must prevail. When all d looters will use d billions they stole to hire smart lawyers to free them. Theres just so much we dont knw but its easy to blame one man cos he's d president. Funny nigerians.

All what you wrote about can be corrected if there is good policy in place such as War Against Indiscipline. If the gov has provided steady light your soup will not sour. The missing $20 b dollars or whatever could have been used to buy diapers for low income families and their babies will never urinate in the chair. yes we must blame the government because we are wiser now. is no longer business as usual.

Anonymous said...

Please go and read the book Leadership..it is the responsibility of the leaders to act when issues are going wrong and make effort to correct them. Unfortunately, GEJ is not acting or has refused to act and everybody working for him are acting with impunity. The past leaders also shared part of the blames and no nigerians spared them and keeping on referring to their regimes and history will always judge every leader. That does not means that if those past leader destroyed economy and GEJ should continue with destruction or what, this is democracy if GEJ knows that he can not handle his ministers with firms hands and disciplinary action than there is no need for him to continue in power therefore let us try a man we have known with disciplinary action and integrity to fight corruption or reduce level of impunity in the society. please let us think on how to fix Nigeria and it is the duty of everybody with a good leader that will give direction and sample
