All this sensationalism. I'm sure by now you already know what a concurrent sentence means. He will serve it together. Consecutive, one after the other. So it's 3years sentence and you know it. But anything to get the traffic....

The ones that are leading us that steal billions are still working around in Nigeria and all the sycophants on this post are criticizing this man rather than trying to comprehending why our young are constantly committing crimes. 70% of these issue are infrastructural related. There is no funding for anything in Nigeria to enable our young get into technical and skilled jobs, all our leaders do is either turn our boys into political thugs or they go off and become fradulent whilst other countries invest in their youths we do the opposite.

Barr. Chryste said...

Hi everyone, you are getting it all wrong. A sentence of 63 years on 21 counts, with 3 years for each count, means he will serve just 3 years in prison.
When a judgment is given, it either runs consecutively or concurrently. If it were to run consecutively, the accused will spend all the years in prison, but if concurrently, the accused will spend the highest term of imprisonment given for the count.
In his own case, he had 21 count against him, with 3 years imprisonment for each count, so he will spend just 3 years as against the 63 years he would have spent if the judgment were to run consecutively.

Barr. Chryste said...

Please also note that life imprisonment does not mean the accused will die in prison. By rule of practice procedure, life imprisonment means 21 years, after which the accused will be released from prison. The prison calender is also not calculated like the gregorian calender. It is about 8 to 9 months equivalent.
