Afe Babalola University students cry out over hike in school fees

I've been getting quite a number of emails from the medical students of Afe Babalola University. Apparently their school fees was increased today from N1.7m to N2.6m and they are very unhappy about it. Continue...

"Behold the most expensive university in Nigeria. In view of the current hike in fees which is really bizarre we as students have expressed our sincere disappointment but this is not a single battle. Initially, the fees was approximately N1.7m but rose overnight to N2.6m. Our parents are complaining and we are feeling their pains because they want us to achieve our dreams.
We really need the social media to join us in this battle. This exploitation must stop. We can't protest because we will be expelled" A student wrote in
Another student wrote;
"I  a 300level Medical Student at the Afe Babalola University. I would like to use this medium to inform you that there was an increase in the fees of medical students at the clinical level today by over 1.4 million Naira totaling the fee to about 2.6 million Naira.
There had been an outrageous and unacceptable outcry by the students. Please your support in this fight against extortion and exploitation would be so much appreciated by the entire student community."

Sighh. It's a pity that common sensed people, so I thought can not look at their keypads and see that "L" is before "K" and a mistake like that can inevitably happen. I tire oooo #abuad! #fuckhaters #sonia. I fucking had to comment cos the bash is just unnecessary.

Lmaooo @plenty money, if you really do have plenty money, you wouldn't be on here with a basic brain. You'd be out making "money" and conversing sensibly with smart people. But I'm sure u'd never be able to do either. Because you are basic. Prolly (probably) under some bridge somewhere trynna be relevant. #abuad

Dear anonymous 3:52 am, well done o. you have been here replying every comment. Jobless much? Better get back to your books you asinine kid! Anyway, you said you're a 500level law student and you obviously can't tell the difference between a typo and a grammatical error. Leave that to us please. *blinking rapidly* The part where he said "precised" instead of "precise" is a typo too right? ( just to point out one blunder). I can see that you're not only stupid but grammatically blind as well. Yes, I make mistakes and take corrections when appropriate. Lol. Bastard! right back at you. And yes, I can spell better than you I'm sure! @dear jide dina, I'm an English graduate, got a masters to go with that. And I'm about to add a PhD, so you see dear, affording school isn't a problem here. Take several seats and shut the fuck up! *kisses*

*end of chapter one*

Ayotola you must truly be the fat idiot everyone says you are to come here to comment. So what if you had a talk with the founder? Are you in medicine? No you're in law so this doesn't affect you directly does it!
One would think that the fact that you are a FELLOW STUDENT would make you see reason as to why a school fee hike of 1.4 MILLION NAIRA with 22 days notice is not something we can swallow!!

It's clear you are among Nigeria's predators who pluck from the national reserve since you think it is possible for people that actually WORK FOR THE SCHOOL FEES THEY PAY to cough out an extra N1.4 MILLION NAIRA IN 22 DAYS.

Ode Oshi. If the founder sent you to write this you had the option to just leave his office without doing it and nothing would have happened.

But NO. Your FAT GREED-INFUSED MOUTH COULD NOT DO THAT SIMPLE TASK.

Selfish bafoon.

Mr/miss 500l law student, thunda fire ur nyash. Let me tell u something, when it comes to quality education, those in public schools have a higher advantage over u private school idiots. Organizations consider those from federal universities before they stoop low to private uni applicants when recruiting. U know that's the truth! Most of u are only there bcos prestigious federal unis like OAU, UNN, ABU and etc denied ur half-baked brains and lazy asses admission. Hence the bitterness. It's not our fault dat u Pple are paying such a high price for below-the-standard education. Mumu law student.

The Students of the institution asked for help, not all these negativity. So please, if you can't assist in their dilemma then comment on another blog post. Be mature and literate beings.

p.s: contacts of the school's administration should be on the site abuad.edu.ng

Sunday Akpan, you can't judge from outside. If they weren't affected, they won't complain.

There are a lot of "average students" there.

Before you come here to explain to us how we should have gone abroad please endeavour to check the facts. Baylor medical school which is one the cheapest med school in the US according to this http://www.usnews.com/education/best-graduate-schools/the-short-list-grad-school/articles/2014/03/20/10-least-expensive-private-medical-schools pays an excess of 30000 dollars which is about 6M while in university of Virginia you would pay an average of 80000 dollars per year for 4 years check also http://www.medicine.virginia.edu/education/medical-students/financial-aid/medical-school-costs/costs-page. Do the conversion and tell me how you expect parents to pay. You all keep talking about federal schools and I can tell you that from experience the level of thinking of someone in a private school is different, the ability to predict the exact time you will graduate is another thing. Go back and ask people in federal schools how many more month extra they have spent. #FactsOnly #Mastarcard #Abuad

Its just sad that some people are asking for help from the general public and some stupid assholes feel its time to pour out their aggression. We r all Nigerians n most people are fortunate some people are. Even if their parents are rich the school has no right to increase the fees over a 100% overnight. From 1.2 to 1.8 and then to 2.6. Whatever happened to feelings for humanity...the students or parents are not to be blamed. N yeah private school students have to write jamb or obtain a diploma before attaining their admission. Please let's be better Nigerians. #EXOBITANTABUADFEES. a concerned medical student.

Haha!!! Linda u and dis ur joke ehn!! Una done come again. Okay if this is really happening then its pure nonsense. Evn my skul is 51k and we r still complaining and we r holding a reasonable position in the Nig. Higher institution ranking plus we hav some good products to our name like ministers, governors, commissioners, ambassadors, doctors and so on as product of my skul. This Afe Babalola with no much good record to boast of exploiting students... Haba!! This one worse

Anonymous said...

These students who could not have met the requirement and cut-off marks for admission into the public universities and were helped to realize their dreams are now complaining. What an ingrate? It is not compulsory you should stay in the school. Try public university and stop harassing the old man who is trying to fill the gap for govt. It is very expensive to run Medical School. Remember, no private university has access to ETF.

@anon 9.40am i agree no one forced us 2 go 2 a private university yes but truth still remains that if fed universities hv offered us admission to course of our choice we wudnt b in private unis bt na condition make crayfish bend. Secondly our parents arent thieving politicians according to you. My parents are jst normal civil servants so watch ur statement next time b4 u point accusing fingers mtchewww

This is frustrating! As a parent,i was in tandem with my son's aspiration of becoming a medical Doctor, the dream he started nursing from jss1. He followed his dreams by working hard in his wasc having 8 dinstinctions at one siting. He scored very high marks in jamb and post jamb exams. The so called public universities could not offer admission as the few available spaces were reserved for professors and the mighties whose wards scored lower marks. They rather offered him alternative courses he never applied for. This led us to ABUAD and post jamb screening was also done. This is to clear all the misconceptions about supposed craze for private universities. Most parents are not rich or egocentric in sending their children to ABUAD, but ready to make sacrifices and this have also reduced preasure on the public universities with low carrying capacities.Am therefore calling on ARE Afe Babalola to in the name of God reduce the fees not to kill the dreams of these students.we also call on well meaning nigerians to appeal to his conscience as this increment is outrageous.Baba should remember tomorrow, any student denied education because of this may become a HATER for life.

Unknown said...

Actually I can see that they are a lot of fools commenting. The fact that we are student of afe babalola uni. That doesn't mean we dumb or we can't go to public uni. But u guyz in public uni face a lot . all we are trying to do is to create a means to tell the sch we aren't okay with the sch fees. Not every one father is a politician here . but this is when our parent wants the best for us. So dont try to abuse us or what so ever. If ur parent weren't able to spend up to that for u. Y are u crying besides we aren't appealing to the pple commenting. We are appealing to sch committee. Mind ur business.

And they will open the gutters they call mouths and say "Abuad is a non profit oriented varsity".. with 2.6M!!!!!!!!! Even other private varsities that according to Aare Afe are profit oriented don't charge this much!! This is totally absurd! Daddy Afe, do SOMETHING!!! ASAP

DROLORD said...

@NigerDeltaBabe....Your comment really hurts. We have always felt this way ever since we became students of ABUAD. You state and federal university students look down on us with the mindset that nothing good comes out of private universities.
Well! I must say everyone has their own varieties of opinions. You might see us as worthless, and incapable of standing up to our counterparts out there. But one thing I will leave with you, is that we all decide if we want to be worthless or not. So all these rude comments don't matter.
A fact is that, ACTION will always speak louder.

5k ID Card! No wa of. Wen u finish the medical school, u will then look for job that will pay you 150k a month for the next 5 years. Imagine if na loan u take go School? Mumu country! Just exploitation! The fees of 2m in 6 years is 12M. As a doctor of 14 years in practise, it is a rip off!
