3yr old boy drowns newborn twin brother and leaves another brain damaged as he tried to bathe them

A three-year-old boy drowned his newborn twin brother and left the other permanently brain damaged as he tried to bathe them while their alcoholic mother slept, Daily Mail UK reports
The boy said he wanted to make his siblings 'nice and clean' after their mother passed out having drunk four cans of super-strength lager.
The shocking sequence of events emerged in court when the mother - who cannot be identified for legal reasons - was given a one-year suspended prison sentence for neglect.
She had sought refuge at a Merseyside home with her children after escaping a relationship of domestic violence, Liverpool Crown Court heard Thursday. The jury heard she slept in a single bed with her eldest son, with the newborn babies cradled together in a drawer.
The mother, an insomniac, fell asleep in the afternoon after drinking four cans of Special Brew, which is nine per cent alcohol.

The toddler woke up and ran a 10-inch bath of cold water.

The mother found her infant children naked and unconscious, not breathing, when she awoke.
Judge Mrs Justice Cox said:
'The drink certainly played a part in you going to sleep and failing to wake up when the toddler woke up and got out of bed. While you slept the toddler decided to make the twins nice and clean and he put them in the bath. When he woke you up you found both of your babies floating in the bath water. They were cold, naked and they weren’t breathing.'
The mother called police and paramedics, telling a 999 operator that she had found her newborn twins unresponsive.

Both babies were given CPR and were taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital in West Derby, Liverpool, where they were put on life support. Days later, one of the boys died in his father's arms. His brother, who suffered a cardiac arrest, was left with severe brain damage.

The court heard he is likely to be severely affected by cerebral palsy and will need round-the-clock care for the rest of his life.

David McLaughlin, defending, said the mother will be haunted by what happened forever.
He said: 'She bears full responsibility – not a day goes by when she doesn’t think about what happened. Every morning she wakes up with a vision of her babies’ faces in the bath, a vision that will haunt her forever-more. She wants it to be known that she holds herself fully responsible for what occurred and she wants her toddler son to know, if ever that time should arise when he is older, that through her plea of guilty she accepts full responsibility for what occurred and no blame should be laid against him.'
She was handed a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, and a supervision order after pleading guilty to three counts of neglect.

Can't phantom what she must be going through. Probably holding down several jobs or just tired after childbirth. A shame she left her kids unsupervised, but knowing the media she might not be alcoholic, dunno of any that would zone out after 3 beers

O sweet Jesus, this is such an awful story. Those poor twin babies, the poor mother who probably began drinking because of her violent relationship and will forever be haunted by that image, then this poor poor 3 year old boy. I pray they send him to a relative and not social services because if he is not properly cared for, the guilt and the images from what he has done could turn him into a monster. This has got to be one of the most depressing stories of the year.

She has learnt her lesson the bitter way. See what alchohol has caused her. Poor boy, was only trying to help so the mother will have enough sleep.

Don't judge her. Domestic violence is a disease itself. It could have Driven her to drink as a way of finding solace.
Pls leave her be...it was an accident. Remember that according to the report she has or suffer from inSomnia(sic). So people it could have happened to even the most consious non-alcoholic who just wanted to nap as a result of exhaustion or living in fear. Something made her leave her home (very difficult decison to make by d way) and then choose to sleep on a bunk bed and the twins on a make shift Bed(drawer). Pls leave her alone. Domestic violence is no joke. Besides most people can sleep deep. Well as the little boy said, "I wanted to keep them nice and clean. Now where wld a little boy get such ideas; from his momma of course. She takes care of this babies and maybe explains the routines to her son. I feel sorry for her and her sentencing is fair. She has learnt her lessons and she will live with it forever. Let's not add to her pain. Now all we can do is to pray for her and learn from this (first lesson, walk away from a difficuLt relationship cos women and men who have "tried to fix it' have suffred trememdous psycosis, lack of confidence or even death. 2ndly we could also learn that before working away God is the only way out and not alcohol.
Oh pls people; cut her some slack.

Decision in sku cos of d bulllies in sku, they'd remind him of this definitly,I just hope he finds christ early to help him deal with it..I don't wisH this 4 my enemy..pls ppl learn to deal with your problems by making God ur terapist it always work, drugs and alcohol only worsens d situation..it never solves any...I pray 4 d woman nd her family..

The 3 year old child actually meant well. I really can't blame anyone here. An Insomniac finally tries to get some sleep then looses a child and almost lost another. Just sad. Children could be handfuls and extra help may be needed. The guilt of the mom and probably her son who tried to help his mom. Adult supervision is very important. Tragic

I am not trying to judge anyone, but if u hav a toddler and two infants in the house, then u are supposed to be on ur toes 24/7. U are supposed to be first to wake up and last to sleep. U leave nothing to chance until they are well able to comprehend things and that could be when they are above age of 7.

Anonymous said...

Not true as a mother of kids especially newborns the slightest sound not noise o sounds like an alarm clock and should wake you up. She was just plain negligent. Very very sound

Where is their father?I still say what everyone thinks but won't say.We live in a complex, overpopulated world thatis groaning under our weight.High time government starts issuing birth permit. Not everyone is meant tobe a parent.forget about human rights, how about human responsibility?a young life has been cut short, another has been vegetated.her punishment now is that she will takecare of him for the rest of his life!what a sad and unnecessary turn of events!I am more angered than pained

Anonymous said...

This very pathetic. Life is what you make it. Human beings should learn to leave violent relationships. Most of the time the abuser do not change. Live for your kids or yourself. As for the 3 yr old, he hasn't done anything wrong. Psychologically, he doesn't know what he has done. His mother have probably taught him to care for his little ones. Why drink when you have little kids to watch? That is bad parenting. It really hard not to judge her. If she was in the states, she'll be in jail longer than a yr because that was neglect and abandonment.
