Jim Nwobodo's son Dr. Ifeanyi Nwobodo buried at uncle's compound

The remains of ‎ Sen. Jim Nwobodo's first son, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwu Nwobodo was finally laid to rest today. ‎He was buried in his father's elder brother's house, Chief John Nwobodo, Chairman of old Enugu Local Govt. Area...after his dad refused to allow his corpse buried in his compound. A source related to the family told LIB;
"From the look of things, he was apparently buried on the arrangement of the  church and his siblings as his father was not seen around. His father's awareness of his burial could be traced from the heavy presence of security personnel in guard of his compound though he was not seen and also his second wife. Ifeanyi was buried in his uncle's house which shares the same fence with the fathers house instead of his fathers (irony of life)."

Jim is a very wicked man, whatever it is that made him not want his son buried in his compound. How did this country allow a man with this kind of stony heart act as a governor? Playing politics with his children shamelessly before the whole world, is he the only man that has gotten married twice. Who doesn't know the jealousy and bitter feelings in a home that has more than one mothers, an adult like Jim could not rear his head above those negative feelings. He allowed negative feelings smear him black before the whole world because he failed to use his head. What father has the heart to not allow his child be buried inside his compound? What father, I am so unhappy about this. Let me chill please, I am not related to them and it doesn't concern me but this is the height of wickedness which is why I am reacting like this. angelo8z8@yahoo.com

SHAME ON JIM NWOBODO AND HIS NEW WIFE. IF JIM NWOBODO DIDNT DO THE RIGHT THING BY HIS LATE SON BECAUSE OF MEMORY LOSS DUE TO OLD AGE, WHAT ABOUT YOU GIVING HIM A VOICE OF REASONING? Very stupid action on his part irrespective of what his problem might be with the disease siblings.

I don't think its right to bury ones child in the same compound when the the father is alive. I don't think it is done anywhere! what I understand is that if the father dies is the first son that gets the property the dead is buried in. Infact, the father should not even witness the burial of the child. That's it.

ibeakwadalam said...

Wow!

Didn't know they are these many ignorant people of Igbo culture including Igbos who comment on this blog. Too bad Linda is not a journalist.

It is not only in Igbo culture but in many African culture, a titled man (depending on the title) is forbidden to see a dead corpse especially that of his son even more so his heir (first son). There are many such customs throughout Igboland and Africa in general.

The Burial rites in Igboland is still observed by a lot of people. Ifeanyichukwu being buried in his uncle's compound is not new nor should be looked as at something sinister. Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo (Ifeanyi's dad) is the one who should be buried first in the middle of his living room before his son.

So to those who don't understand or want to know more about Igbo customs they should read books written by the late Prof. Adiele Afigbo...,"Igbo History and Society: The Essays of Adiele Afigbo"

And these other works:
The Warrant Chiefs: Indirect Rule in Southeastern Nigeria 1891–1929

Ropes of Sand: Studies in Igbo History and Culture

The Igbo and Their Neighbours: Inter-group Relations In Southeastern Nigeria to 1953

Groundwork of Igbo History

Image of the Igbo

The Abolition of the Slave Trade in Southeastern Nigeria 1885–1950

And for you tribalists, his collection of work, edited by a Yoruba man, Toyin Falola

Nigerian History Politics and Affairs

Igbo History and Society

Myth, History and Society

Assuming you all want to be educated.
