Here's something late BBC presenter Komla Dumor posted recently

BBC Focus on Africa presenter Komla Dumor died suddenly in his home in London yesterday Jan. 18th. He was just 41. Here's something he posted on his Facebook page recently...
God has been v good to me.,last year I experienced a lot of illness ..my BP nearly gave me a stroke but I trod on..waking up at 2am and heading to work..exhausted sometimes..aching in my body a soul..mentally and emotionally drained ..but I kept going ..I smiled for the camera..I volunteered for extra shifts ..I showed respect to my colleagues from directors to the security guards..I took a lot of jealousy driven vicious insults and backstabbing  from petty people without reply..I remain silent in my personal strife and misery..I kept smiling and pushing on to present better and to engage w my audience and increase my following.,long days and frustrating times..but I kept going..through the west gate mall coverage through the Mandela funeral..even when illness had me collapsing I delivered..today my boss the head of television called me for a 1 minute meeting..he said Komla we have decided to make you the anchor presenter for our coverage of the World Cup in Brazil ..we shook hands and I left..I looked to the sky and said thank you Lord for reminding me that you are on my side ..the enemy will be scattered..Selah!Selah! Praise Him..tomorrow is another day.
Tomorrow is not promised. Live Your Best Life. Komla sure did! May his soul rest in peace...Amen.

So sad. Why didnt he take a break when he knew he had bad health? Besides looks like he was going through some personal crisis that had to do with his love life. Otherwise why would he use the phrase ...'my misery?'

This is a testimony that he sacrificed his health for the job. I don't approve because the BBC will and can replace him tomorrow when his wife and kids have lost him forever. Your health is your wealth.

May his soul rest in peace...Linda happy Sunday.

The pressure of working in a pressurised organisation like the BBC. He should have paid attention to his health and taken time off. What a sad loss. We all need to take our health more seriously.

Thank you for sharing this, Linda. I was shocked when i read about his death on your blog yesterday. Komla went to medical school briefly with my husband but they remained friends despite being on different continents. My husband was very sad over his death and talked about how Komla's death is an awakening to the fact that we all have a very short time on earth. Komla Afeke Dumor was a trail blazer who made his mark on earth. I grieve for him, I grieve for his wife and young kids. R.I.P....

We all go through so much in our lives, but we often choose not to show it, putting on a show of a smile just to get by. I empathize with what he went through at work, going through the same ish now, but God dey. Linda like you said tomorrow is not promised. RIP KOMLA DUMOR.
Such a pity an excellent presenter/journalist has died of heart attack being that he had known of his high BP.
Having worked in similar British working environment, I can so easily relate to his post. The brilliance of the British coworkers at deploying the most covert and subtle means to aggravate every lesser being (coloured or foreigner) in their little minded view, is enough to drive one up the wall(been there and got the t-shirt). As long as you're down the ladder and do not show any spark of ambition they will be your chums. Otherwise, you are a targeted threat that needs to be eliminated by every covert and subtle means of ridicule and prejudice. This in my view is the primary cause of death...be well aware if you're aspiring in that environment

I think he lived his best life but in hindsight he should have stopped and taken care of his health first. We were discussing what could have caused his demise yesterday and my aunt said maybe he neglected his health. She was not too far from the truth. Working long hours and volunteering for extra shifts to impress your employer (BBC) is ambitious but not when you know you are suffering from Hypertension and possible stroke. I think Komla could have prevented his own death. All the same RIP Mr Boss Player. I feel for his family and his kids. From every indication he was a great father.

We should all learn to STOP sometimes.
I fainted at work last year simply because everyone was pushing their workon me. They knew I would do it while they get paid.
When I was in the hospital for a whole week,no single call or text to check up on me. My sister who always complained I did too much was there by my side in the hospital and it was a wake up call for me.
Funny enough it was thejunior staff who pushed their work on me, they know I like quality work so they will wait last minute send it when they know I cant send it back and would have to redo the rubbish they sent.
When I came back yousend rubbish I reply and copy the Boss witha query, that nonesense stopped, stopped taking my work home weekends.
Its good to work hard but they WILL GO ON WITHOUT YOU

This is what Ethnic professionals go through in US/UK on a daily basis so much pressure just because you went against the grain..worked for a Hedge Fund once...and almost lost my mind...always had panic attacks which was alien to me until then..also considering I had to travel from outside london into work...once we lost our finance director at 37!!...never ill always first in and last to leave...did some minute silence thingy and worked carried on as usual...I was so happy to get out of there if not it would have been fatal..
They wouldn't announce his death online would they!!...and def not the Fb post which would make them seem culpable...sure you not aware of how many people have lost their lives in Investment banking and other pressurised jobs ??...so glad now contracting out my services now...I decide under what terms and conditions I'm willing to work and not just looking at the £££ signs...R.I.P
This should server as a lesson to all Professionals..listen to your body and always ask God...If I'm doing the right thing
