Hilarious! Actor James Omokwe trashes 'garbage music' in Nigeria

I like Wizkid and I think he's one the best musical talents we have in Nigeria. But actor James Omokwe, best known as Kenny of popular TV series Shallow Waters doesn't appreciate Wizkid's new song 'In My bed'. The way he analyzed it on his Facebook page a few days ago is hilarious.  Start from above and continue after the cut and tell us if you agree with him...

My I don ask myself this same question when I hear am. Thing is our radio stations are playing or do I say encouraging this garbage. We are not a people of lyrics, as long as we can dance to it, some people will dance to "your Mama na winch, your Papa be thief. Come make we shake body".

Unknown said...

See what he is complaining about? You can't spell because again lmao

Anonymous said...

@James omokwe, you are very right! We have very bad music in naija.. The problems in naija is so much that most people don't want to listen to music that makes them think!.. All they want is to dance and forget their troubles. Heheheh. Am with you Mehn!! Heheheh

Anonymous said...

Lmfaaaoooo I so agree, I'm a big wizkid fan, infact a wizkid fanatic but that "in my bed" song is just rubbish, it's the worst to happen to nigeria this year, the song stupid gaan, like wat was he even tinking wen he was recording that garbage, as in wizkid just needs some time off, and he just dashed tyga money, bcos he didn't sing anything in "show u the money" remix he was just playing wit the song, no be by force to feature american artiste

Lolz so on point

Anonymous said...

I say the same thing to all my friends who care to hear everytime this yeye song comes on. Finally someone sees the light!

Unknown said...

My dear Lyrics are important. That's what makes a song. Not the beat. That's why no so called famous Nigerian musician has won a Grammy. Especially the singers of today. This is because they sing crappy songs with zero lyrics.

Anonymous said...

I have nothing personal against wizzy. But a lot of his recent songs have very lame n shallow lyrics. Some of our Nigerian artists are guilty of this crime.

Unknown said...

Nope, I don't agree with you on the Beyonce song. If you listen properly you would she she meant she woke up flawless and beautiful. That the name of the song. And ChimAmanda's part shows girl power. So there is lyrical content.

Anonymous said...

Wizkid now sings rubbish,no lyrical sense anymore too bad.

but about 85% of Nigerian music lacks lyrical content. I thought we already knew this? If they start making sense no one will buy their music. It's sad but it's true.
People just talking about how they want to groove - in the long run this dumb music will affect you subliminally and you'll start acting dumb. it's science.

These days songs do not make sense. No moral but immoralities. No encouragement to work but encouragement to dream and hope that a magic will happen.

Unknown said...

Sounds funny but he's making a point. garbage music such as this should be banned after just one play...it shouldn't be promoted in anyway.

Unknown said...

I think this campaign should be for Yoruba home videos for their immature and empty story lines and unprofessional video directing.

Unknown said...

dats his opinon/

Unknown said...

Although James is right concerning d rate of garbage music we have in Nigeria today. He is wrong to have used one artist to drive home his point.besides we can't also blame these artist for the songs they produce, its what the public wants. Gone are the days when meaningful songs sell big time and get recognition. When iyanya and praiz started singing after winning project fame, how many people really listened to their song or timi dakolo's album but when iyanya sang kukere he was instantly recognised, d same can be said of davido's skelewu but I like the song. At a point in time I got fed up listening to ice prince rap because he would always say " EFCC chase my guy" no matter want kind of song it is. So I think it's unfair to picking one artist out of thousands and like someone said he didn't start it. No one is perfect, the best we can do is encourage them to produce better songs and not castigate them or bring them down. This is their source of livelihood. Praise dem and encourage them.

I know some burnt brained retards who helps my sister linlin ikeji smile to the bank have said some stupid retarded comment but I will ignore it as they don't know any better. I will concentrate on thus guy. He cracked me up real good. He couldn't be more correct. The creativity in his writing shows he is an intelligent young man. Thumbs up dude.

Unknown said...

He is saying the truth, singing rubbish nowadays

Unknown said...

The song is not really nice but what majority of Naija youth want to do is dance to the GBEDU, even if it's one that would kill them...lol. Please let's help reshape music industry is falling... IVote4GoodMusic

What's Fashola doing in this song? Is he in the bed? Lmao! That part killed me

ICU said...

Finally!! someone that shares my view. i thought I'm the only one who doesn't like Wizkid's songs. Like they freaking don't make any sense. His lyrics are horrible. He needs to go to music school. Someone really needs to stop him. But then I don't understand Nigerians, be jamming to his songs anyhow eg show me the money. I think that song is really senseless and the lyrics are just wack. We really need to ban garbage music in Nigeria please

Anonymous said...

That is why nigeria is what it is today. Somebody is complaining about wizkid wack song and you are busy mentoning eminado and dorobucci. So you want to say you dont know what they are saying in eminado and dorobucci. Is it the same thing wizikid mentioning Fashola in his wack song. Please go and get a life.

Mischievous said...

Many songs by Nigeria artists are banal, and just like Professor Femi Osofisan said: "It is meant for those who seek nothing out of music but that it should intoxicate and empty their minds".

Anonymous said...

this guy just said the truth jor....that wizkid's song is senseless regardless of the talent he has

Anonymous said...

This man said my mind. People can call him names but he told the truth. The first time I heard the song I said the same thing. I was disappointed. Lyrically poor song. Shout out to mike okri, alex zitto, alex o, daniel wilson, blakky and others for making good music in the late 80s n 90s.

Unknown said...

Lmaoo...he is Nigeria's music messiah..lolz

Unknown said...

Well choreoclass *in olamide's voice* this is a well written article. Well, almost lik he is picking on the young man buh its just totally true. The song has a confused direction. Its more lik dey make good beats and just say watever pops out of their heads. I guess its cos we always dance to dem. If we as a people demand for more technical input by our artists by not paying attention to their garbage outputs den they will sit down and do some good songs for us. The ones with good music hav been frustrated out of the industry cos its lik dey came b4 their tym.

Unknown said...

That song as two sides, the part for the chic n the part where he pays homeage to some pple. If u don't understand a language dont say shit. I understand what u mean by garbage music but this song makes sense n it was a nice melodiously song from beat to delivery. Stop hating on others to seek ur fame. Climb up d ladder in peace or if u get there dis way u will b pulled down

Anonymous said...

This is part of d problem of our society...shallow minds like you..Is life about money or about the lives u ve been able to touch by whatever it is you do? I feel sorry for this generation..And again *solo solo* get some exposure,u definitely lack it

Anonymous said...

From ur profile,i see u are a student..and if this is ur mentality as an undergrad (money is everythn) then ur parents have wasted their sweat sending u to skool

Anonymous said...

What he said makes sense, but I'm worried because if you ain't successful in your field you should be careful not to shade some one who is. James is actually a director not an actor and from his previous films......understanding his storyline is still lacking. It will be nice to be someone first then advice another person to change something...

dublin said...

Well in two years time wizkid will be nothing but a memory...

Anonymous said...

It has grown, I agree but James has no stands in this. Have you watched his films? This is a case of sort your house out first, before...

Anonymous said...

It's a shame if u call such garbage 'someone else's work'..A song that emanated frm a night of smoking and frolicking cheap girls...Says a lot about ur personality.. The future is bleak for Nigeria

Anonymous said...

First James is not an actor, he is a Director. A director that does garbage movies so far...since he wants to compare naij music with western..we have to compare his work with the western work as well. James I doubt this was a brilliant move. I hope you get popular through this. Must be the aim.

I must commend James Omokwe for his courage to speak out though in a satirical manner.

The important thing to draw out of this expose is that as a society, we have to be cautious of the impact of musical content delivered on the airwaves particularly on the younger generation.

Musical content with properly laid out Chain of thoughts on a subject matter that affects society should be encouraged because Music itself is an educational and enlightenment vehicle which can be used to preach moral values.

Let us correct the ills now before it is too late as James had inferred.

To our numerous Nigerian Artistes, remember we are Africans with deep rooted societal values (which we all know has been eroded)...so be a part of the re-building and re-awakening of our societal consciousness.

The time to act is NOW!
