***CURRENTLY IN JUPITER***
i don't really understand the story line of the picture. thou great 3D shoots
She is a bleacher
Different meanings,best known to them
To adequately represent, you could have been decked in African prints with waist beads, bangles and awesome African headgear.
Don't defend this anymore.its what it is.the colonial "white" mistress with very very dark skinned pre independence slaves.
This is an error of judgment by all involved.
nice work
If her colour had been black, she would still have shot same photos, so I don't see any racism in it from her explanation.
Your comment will be visible after approval
nothing is wrong with this picture

Eku is right! Dat is hw we dress while sending our girls to dem matrimony home
Eku, thanks for that interpretation. Some people can sabi think rubbish.
Am beginning to see why they ranked Nigeria the most stressed state in the world. Finding faults where there is none.
:::::::::::::::::::::QUEENMAYA:::::::::::::::::::::
Is that her explanation?? Crappy
I have a question, would this be an issue if she were dark skinned?
please SHUT UP Eku, what silly explaining is this, so it is only very dark skinned children that was chosen for the shoot. i know u are not blind...the pictures are self explanatory "CHILD ABUSE/RACISM" knowing that you are mixed breed and extremely fair in complexion compared to those little kids who had to do this shoot with you because of ignorance and poverty.
How can u say some are relative representing the bride's family "WHO DO YOU LOOK LIKE AMONG THOSE CHILDREN EKU?" your explanation is very foolish...
I m sure if she is dark skinned they won't react that way #peoplesha
So why was the Bride not Aorned in one of our many traditional outfits as she claims the picture depicts.Mtsheeeew
Nigerians and their "first time speculatory accusations". Its either you are educated or not, we are our own problems tho' *Yoruba sigh*
This chic's Nigerian to start with I know Eku (via twitter sha) she wouldn't have done the shoot with racism in her mind, meanwhile, calling all haters......YOU DON CHOP? THEN WHY ARE YOU HATING BIKO?
little wonder Chris Rock said we blacks are our own problem, forget whatever stupid concept, this picture depicts racism and child abuse, you had to look for children who are extremely black to use to potray your useless concept.
But some people are so dumb
Dumbass niggas
What there...???
All I see is someone trying to promote our cultural heritage that has been forgotten in some part of african
Stupid. She should have been more sensitive to the racial vibes around now
Her explanation justifies it a lil bit
But she wasn't dressed like a bride
She dressed like some english woman
And she wasn't the right person for this shoot
In developed countries this would have been taken seriously
you say other images reveal the beauty of our attire, traditional dress & Jewellery 'UTTER RUBBISH" Our traditional dresses look NOTHING like what you or those poor little kids have on. please tell me what culture in Nigeria has this attire? it certainly cant be Igbo becuz i am an Igbo girl and we dress nothing like this when we want to be cultural. infact it is only people who i see that beg in traffic that where such even a mad person on the street is covered. secondly u are wearing a white or maybe cream dress with a scarf or cap not from a Nigerian culture...
OK....her name is @Georgie.
I got that
@Galore
It still depicts slavery...
And the bride had to be white?
No mind them, dope pics
Vote no fight
and unfortunately the community dont have fair skin members to help the bride. gerout of here
just stop defending shit
Eku abeg what are you saying????So your relatives will tie wrapper around their necks and follow you around. Abeg this was about slavery jor!!! We all see it
.....and all your relatives are dark skin?
Story for the gods
People can think far sha.things have different meaning depending on how you understand it.this is not exceptional.
nonsense ,how come u wore western-like clothes and hair ,the only thing on u tht is African is the beads ,this is celebrating slavery !
The picture to my own understanding indicate a lady from the royal class and her servant escoting her,if they wanted to use the kids as family members they would have dressed them in line with her.my saying tho.

Too much over sabi is a disease, in a effort to sound morally conscious many end up looking stupid.
Why does the picture have to be racism?
Please go and look for another 'cause' to fight for.
There is a lot of injustice in Nigeria and many causes worthy of a good fight and you are here looking for a fight where there isn't any.
SO WHY THEM NO USE LIGHT SKIN CHILDREN DO AM? WHEN YOU SEE THIS PICS WHATS THE FIRST IMPRESSION? THE PICS IS ALL WRONG? I DONT THINK THERE IS ANY WHERE IS NIGERIA THAT A BRIDE IS MOVING TO HER HUSBAND's HOUSE AND SHE HAS PLENTY HUNGRY CHILDREN PACKING HER LOAD OHHHHH! THIS IS MISREPRESENTATION OF MODERN AFRICA! COME WETIN BE BE THIS THINNY BROKEN GIRL NAME AGAIN!
Na wa for some pple sha.......
Nice try Eku, I don't buy that explanation tell it to the chickens.
Why is this coming from Africa? What a stupid interpretation. How come the children carrying the suitcases are black and not Eku's kinda colour.
How come those prints were just wrapped round and not sewn
How come Eku is not carrying anything as well
How come the boxes are LVs and not "sacks from African weaves or prints too.
How come those children are not wearing shoes, even to the least of slip on. they could be African prints too.
How come they are all dark skinned.
Am pissed with the interpretion.
This only depicts slavery, poverty, child labour, racism and insensitivity to the human race.
Take this pictures down!!!!
This should never be archived or save for future reference, not acceptable.
I don't believe the explanation. It is an after thought filled with lies. If not, why is it that none of the relatives is fair skinned? And holding the humbrella for the bride is even more conviction.
Disgusting picture ,so no adult relative. This picture depicts nothing but slavery at a glance.
Hahahahahaha.....traditional attire indeed; is she wearing anything traditional??? 'Depicts younger members of the society some re relatives' and she's the only 'white/yellow' one there???!! I hear her clearly....rubbish
This is totally insane...why the hell did they use a half-caste lady(light-skinned for that matter) to depict Nigerian cultural heritage? As for Eku, sweetheart are you for real?...relatives?...really?...judging from the skin colour, these young ones cannot be passed as your relatives...please give a better explanation.
People and sentiments. there's nothing wrong with those pictures
so who is saying the truth, the accused or the complainant?
My dear, people must always talk.
Shalom in Nigeria, Amen.
Yeah, even though it is obvious it was not intended, the pictures do give bad connotation. It is innocent but it is insensitive. Sorry Eku, i am sure you meant well.
Must we misinterprete everything?
Looks like slavery to me. That's all i see. They should have used a black girl , not a white fre king bitch with black slaves carrying suitcases around her... Bloody fools
Eyaaa!!
Okay! But she should have mixed d relatives na. Instead of her bn white and d family members black. How does she explain that?
well to me is "racism, child labour and slavery"
Godovaeverytin
ok naa
Beautiful concept. The picture depicts the critics view obviously misinterpreted without seeing the creative beauty of art.
What rubbish explanation is she saying.art is self explanatory. And looking at this pics,thé first thing that comes to thé mind is slavery.she is not dressed like and african bride and she doesnt even look african. So what rubbish is she saying.Thé person That gave her this concept knows what He or she was trying to potray.
They are not worried about the fact that there is no light and no gas to fuel the generator, they are not worried that the only thing the two Presidential candidates have going for them is their religion but they are worried about slavery, something that happened ages before any of their parents were born? So what if it was slavery?! Didn't they watch '12 years a slave' and read the book? Did they not read 'Roots" and watch the series? All these are examples of artistical expression of slavery. Come on! People need to focus on what is important and forget being what the social media considers politically correct!
What the hell did she explain.....like how can a lady be this dumb. If they where relatives they will be better dressed and in almost like skin complexion. This is complete slave trade picture and no one should buy the magazine.
So now we are clear on that one.
Redcandy
LOOKS LIKE SLAVERY TO ME. POOR PHOTOSHOOT DONE IN BAD TASTE. EKU HAS NO REAL TALENT APART FROM BED HOPPING FROM ONE MAN TO ANOTHHER.
Balderdash!!!!! Her explanation is absolutely very lame!!! It speaks of racism n child labour in every facet.
The way people twist & read meaning to things is one of the world's major probs, why can't we always see the good in everything??? Linda take note!
Wait o! How this one wan take stop BH?
You can as well apologise for this slavery depiction... the concept doesnt depict any heritage bullcrap you want to sell us!!!
Who ever thinks his brain behind that shoot is is so dum, should go back to African history and see if it's children or the mid-wives that does that.
The image failed to convene the bridal massage. All i see is a white woman with black boys carrying her bags!
Not true Eku, boys don't escort new brides home.. Only single unmarried ladies & older women do.. This depicts slavery.., not marriage puuhhhlleeaseee
Pple are quick 2 judge shaaa haba na wa o. Beautiful pixs sha nd its a nyc concept.
if eku's explanation is to be believed, then the creative people did not do a very good job of interpreting the idea she is talking about.
this picture depicts child slavery a beg. no where in Nigeria do children of that age tie 'one yard of ankara wrapper' around their otherwise naked bodies and carry a new bride's boxes to her new husband's home.
this photograph feeds into a stereotype of half naked people 'shitting in the forest' and dangling from trees. this is not the way we live in this part of the world!!!
Boys don't escort brides! Simple, she even gave a dumber response.
Silence is golden.
hmmm. i no understand oo
pamscrib.blogspot.com
I hear u! The dress u wear na traditional dress abi u no get light skinned relatives as u yellow like this. Wait o!!! I cant see her twin sister there o!
I hear u! The dress u wear na traditional dress abi u no get light skinned relatives as u yellow like this. Wait o!!! I cant see her twin sister there o!
hahahahaha!I laugh in french and spanish no sorry, in ishan and bini. relatives ko, relatives ni. lmao. this picture should be retracted with an apology.
Akuko uwa!! She shoulda dressed like an african bride and not a western bride. nywyas the attack should be on the dumb ass this day style people and the creative director of that photo shoot they shoulda put more thought into it. i initially thought i was the only that noticed.
Slavery n child labour my foot..Nigerians are starting to turn to idiots..u guys criticise everything..she aint the photographer she doesn't even see these things the way u guys see it..whats wrong with the pic..I'm tired..Every keyboard warrior thinks he or she has an opinion...........................#6God
Well Eku or whatever ur name is the explanation given from u its unreasonable to me all I can see is racism/ child abuse and slavery u can't brain wash me with ur explanations
fine she no fine. just because she's light skinned! Pthew, when will they remove the picture and apologise
Ok. Can we move on?
lol. Why una dey vex? no be heritage they call am. No be slaves una be? Your grandfathers and fathers were slaves. And when you support use of bleaching cream and follow light skinned people and think about america and london all the time, you're still a slave. Carry go joor eku!#ptshew.
I dnt buy her explanation.is it guys dt escort brides 2 their matrimonial home or younger chicks??it may nt represent slavery or racism but it sure isn't Edowor's words fr an explanation
aittyfinest xyz
in igboland that's how it is done.wonder why people would always want to create a mountain out of a molehill
No matter what she says or how best she explains it,it still represent what it is in the mind of people.
They should have been another way around it.
All I see is bad English.
HINT: Do a refresher on 'article' in English.
Poor speech eku...
Stop defending nonsense...nobody carried my bag on their head wen i went to my husbands house.n what culture is that.your ignorant of what we are seeing.
how doest dt affect d price of kerosene.Mchewwww
People sef like to conclude withoout verifying. Everthing is naw racism. Why do some africans like to hide under the shell of racism sef? Mtchewww
www.udokajane.blogspot.com
Which jewelry ???
she shud shut up and apologize
I did not really think of racism when I saw the picture
First thing that came to my mind is traditional wedding........ Nice concept, back in the days
Deir wahala
Some people can be so petty! I know the ones criticizing this picture are those lazy ass APC supporters who doesn't have work to do but to keep vigil on social media to spew gibberish!!!
Y r they all dark looking famished, n u, only u, white?????
Which society do males excort a bride to her new home?
Biko,i bliv it's meant to be matured pple dt will take a bride to her "new home",yh nd children are meant to be d one clapping nd singing at d back,am jst hearing bouh d shoot,nt following odas in saying it's abt slavery bt dt her explanation get k-leg,eku baby,ur xplanation ain't realistic dear....
if she was to be of black skin would issue of racism be thought of?
in my part of the wood in Nigeria, young brides are not escorted to their husband's houses' by young boys, It is done by women. Where in Nigeria is this the culture?
Th concept is bad. The bride's relatives should resemble her and not look like her slaves.
They should re-shoot the pictures and make the relatives look happy and smiley then the interpretation would come out better.
D explanation make sense sha.
Dis concept is as bad as it gets. So she's is d boss? Nd annoyingly there is no white skinned person in her slaves. Wow, Eku
Her explanation make sense but I don't like the picture....
Her defence so lame.. pls visit rellaidiovo.blogspot.com
nigerians really need to chill abeg. there oversabi is becoming
The criticism was genuine but then she has explained her concept so lets move on. Check out here for sports news
The world racism have been abused
They r helping her by carrying her load and an umbrella over head!? Looks like slavery to me
Her explanation is bul... what came to mind when i first saw the photo was colonial times. She the white people and the children the slaves.
the picture means exactly what it is child labour, slavery and Racism who ever came up with this idea is a retard
Eku, this surely is a medicine after death remedy...who ever gave you this after thought, unbelievable, story you are putting up now on twitter, should have been proactive enough to see this pic and prvent d damage before it got published. Secondly, only young/middle aged boys dn't escort new brides to their new homes...where are the young maidens? Thirdly, a young African new bride ought to have a traditional attire on... The image of the pic, depicts an older era where things are done traditionally. Now, the only thing traditional on you in that pic, are the beeds on your neck which simply looked like a colonial mistress on a journey with slaves carrying her bags... Eku u are clearly white, ask yourself, why you are the only white person in that pic....lastly Money and fame issnot everything... don't be to hasty in signing a contract with a big brand cause of the fame and fortune it would bring...look babe b4 u leap.dats all...Still love u tho, cause u ve real talent...
Its seen ds way bcos she's d only fair image in ds foto, but I think dey could av done better...probably with a much older group.
oh, so that's what it is depicting@ Eku.......how come there's no hint of a smile(happiness)on them?
The excuse makes no sense to me, slavery is all I see in the pic, just apologise, take down d pic and move on. Meanwhile, whoever cane up with ths concept is nothn but a fool.
I think it's perceived ds way bcos she's d only fair image in ds foto, but I think dey could av done better... with a much older group.
U go fear beef na
oh, so that's what it is depicting@ Eku.......how come there's no hint of a smile(happiness)on them?
If I hear say she dey right about the concept of that pix
Why didnt they find people with fair skin to carry the suit cases and a fair guard to hold the umbrella and d shield respectively. Racist alert.
Eku Edewor is from my side of the country, so i seem to understand and enjoy her depiction very well. Besides, this is a fine rendering of Urhobo culture, what we call "usuovwa" (where ‘usu’ means escorts and ‘ovwa’ means new bride). It was on that special night when the family of the bride brought her to the family home of the bridegroom. There was the ritual prayer from the family over the bride and bridegroom for as many children as they could bear. That was the ritual sense of marriage in Urhoboland.
An ovwa by definition is a new arrival to a family. For that reason, she is treated with a lot of respect not only by the men of the family but also by her mates, the other wives of the family. Typically, she is served her meals and always seen in clean or new clothes. She spends a lot of time with her husband in much the same way as one would expect in a traditional honeymoon of the Western World. She has little to complain about but even then she is closely watched from a distance particularly by other women who have been in the family longer. She is careful not to say or do anything that might be construed as bad manners by her in-laws or other women in the family as she learns to assume her role as one of the eya-re-ekru. She learns to confide in her husband or a close relative if there is one nearby. The older women are usually resentful of an ovwa who is talkative or garrulous and appears to be too ‘forward’.
The night of the marriage was special in another important sense. It was the night that the bridegroom was to begin his physical relationships with his young wife. Nosy old women wanted to know whether she was a virgin or whether she came into their family already experienced in sexual encounters. It was all part of living in Urhobo communities in those days. The family was all round you -- to help, but also to interfere with some of your individual liberties. Stories rapidly circulated about the new marriage, as the bridegroom was openly teased about his sexual conquest of his new wife, with questions of when the family should expect a child from the marriage. But the bridegroom and his new wife were treated with great respect
As I admire the beauty of Eku Edewor as “ovwa” in this picture and her well-dressed escorts “usu”, memories of those times when Urhobo young women had to carry out these all-important rituals filled my fancy. There is no slavery here. Thank you Eku Edewor for being the Don Major who was able to highlight this beautiful aspect of our culture. Thank you also for the reminiscence.
We don hear but that's no what I expected to hear
Explanation unacceptable, what culture do little boys follow the bride home? Mostly maidens, bride's friend or married woman follow the bride and they don't dress in this shabbily. Anyway we all just like to give excuses shaaaaaaa. You still fine though
At ieast it got people talking... Those pictures we goood and lynxxx is one hot man
I'm sorry but Eku sounds stoooooooopid! What the hell how about young maidens who are aspiring to get married helping the new bride! Babe u are in a position now where it's beyond a cheque and this doesn't smell too good for u! Next time speak up and don't act like the issue has nothing to do with u!
Bonario, still on the matter of ma dream, Linda let av a Lib wedding na do d connection don Allah, as 4 d Eku lady, y didn't u wear Ankara too, African bride
Never liked this eku (rat) of a girl
Eku means rat in yoruba language, Ow can she be named that
people get problem sha.wat is bad with dis photo
Fuck you EKU ur explanation is not reasonable enough.. This is pure racism and childhood slavery. Concept of landscape indeed
Pls who knows chizoba ibekuibe, she is criously disgracing herself all over the Internet, pls if u know the hubby, tell him to check the wife, that is if he can
@ Eku, your words do not match the image, those children do not look like they are family members, they actually look like slaves. Next time, try to match the expression with the intension.
Eku, it's a lie, am an Urhobo girl born. And I knw we are one of the people who have the culture of people escorting bride to their home. For your information, it is not Children that do it. Rather it is WOMEN who escorts the bride. So when u people are looking for concept, pls investigate properly and know how it is done b4 u pple start making blunders.
All I see is a bride being escorted to her husband's aus, Neva saw it as slavery
Hian....
Why should people be this shallow, this is just an ibo bride being taken to her husband's aus.
LOL. Finally some Kardashian feel
OKORO UPGRADED**
Pple can misinterprete sha!
I can't lie, when I first so the pics I immediately thought of slavery but because Eku is so stunning looking and very much involved with Nigeria, I looked passed it BUT what we see is completely different to what the 'artist' is trying to show!!
If these kids really are relatives of the man she's marrying, wouldn't they be dressed to the nines?
Anyways she caused a bit of controversy around her, therefore people are talking about her -she tried sha
~K~
Shut up faceless Anon. Isn't it obvious to u she's mixed. Hater
Madam u dressed English and none of ur so called relatives looked like u. So wat re u talking about
I thought it was just me that saw something wrong with this shoot. How can our people criticize skin bleaching so much yet Nigerian pop culture produce this... that glorifies fair skin and let me not even start with the child labor depicted here.
This is exactly what I will expect from Western fashion industry (Europe and America), not Africa!
I don't mind the position Eku played after all here in Nigeria we have both naturally very light and dark skin people), my problem is with the slave girls, couldn't the photographer level the playing field with the skin color, and also those girls should be older.
Eku sorry but your excuse don't hold water because last I check it's the bride's friends/ age mate that usually escort her to her husband's place; and even if family, nothing in those pictures says those girls are related to the bride; it just shows the princess and her slave girls. Just my interpretation of it and I bet most people's as well!
#verysad
Couldn't have said it any better. I think explaining it is pouring salt on injury.
racist mullato
Maybe young maidens should have been used instead of the boys or better still use both boys and maidens to give ba clearer picture of the interpretation of the shoot. Eku is not a " bleacher" as someone called her here. She is of mixed race. Her father is white.
No she is not. She is of mixed race. Her father is white
CN I will accept ur own defintion Dan her own. U made a point more Dan her.
Another case of a basic chick cutting to the front of the line simply because she's light skinned. That's why she's bleaching herself into nonexistence -to enjoy her privileges to the max.
Weak explanation.......how come the bride is the only fair person from her family and community?...mtcheww
Not acceptable.. Not the shoot, not the concept, not even the dumb explanation. This is not right on any level.
Not acceptable.. Not the shoot, not the concept, not even the dumb explanation. This is not right on any level.
U just spoke my mind Bee
Please help me ask am o...smh @ Eku
Thank you for this...brilliant point jare
Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam Gbam
u are on point
Fool!
There are many things wrong with the shoot. For one, she is dressed in western garb but the boys are all in traditional wear. She is lighted skinned they are all dark skinned. She can't even carry her umbrella, there is overtones of colorism as well as an acceptance of child labour. The shoot is visually beautiful, but when you look deeper you really see the cobwebs in the corners.
Good explanation
Order for your beautiful bedspread @ 79AEFD3B. Delivery available nationwide.
so her relative wld wear rapper too while she is wearing a dress n she cld also nt hold her umbrella also n there is nothing traditional abt the way she looks too? where is her husband n why dint an old man who is her father wearing wrapper cme to help her too. lets not b decieved tho this is a racial theme shoot! it wld b beta if she says shes used this theme to remind we africans of how far we av come nt using this jibberish as cover up
if she is dark skinned the shoot wld probably nt have taken place!!!!!
n am sure underneath her feet she is not barefooted pls why r d children walking on feet in the "short distance".
thank you!
i cnt evn like the pic on ig for a million followers!
sorry ary,u and those who think its not important to tackle this issue of slavery re reason why Nigeria is still suffering from all the problems of corruption, lack of electricity etc.bcos pple like u condenm others when they speak up and say truth about an unpleasant situation.that pic depict slavery and child abuse.show it 2 an african-american and that mag or fashion designer will go out of business.
All i see is LOUIS VUITTON
I don't agree with your explanation cuz if u r talking about culture, why r u not fully dressed with a full cultural attire,if I may ask which African culture r u show casing in Africa?
sorry ary,u and those who think its not important to tackle this issue of slavery re reason why Nigeria is still suffering from all the problems of corruption, lack of electricity etc.bcos pple like u condenm others when they speak up and say truth about an unpleasant situation.that pic depict slavery and child abuse.show it 2 an african-american and that mag or fashion designer will go out of business.
Good for some blind batimus
Lol....abeg make una free dz pishuuuuuuuuuurrrrr......e fine nir be small, abi una don see where slave for dey wear correct ankara ?
Does not look racist to me atall, in our culture who rushes to help people with luggage when they arrive at the house "kid", the youngest children in the house. That is what this looks like to me.
Nigerians av tym shaaaaa, instead f ya'll 2 thnk of better tinz to do na pic wey no go hlp una dey wrry una brain.
Why the Umbrella? Is there sun.Racist picture, there are so many concept you could have used.
very racist joor. abeg dont bother explaining.all these fake tv personalities and their "lets just stay in the media"mentality. im pretty sure she saw the racial angle of this shoot before it was actually done but just figured ........."eh what tha heck....people are gonna talk about it so its all good" crap.#teamGEJ#
How can this be racism, Eku Edewor is black too...you guyz dont even know what racism means.... Mixed race black people are seen as black anywhere.... and the picture is beautiful and authentic cause this is what happens...i just wish it was shot in a different way...
What do you expect from a society that worships light skin and anything foreign. The concept is silly and the editor at ThisDay is an illiterate so I'm not surprised any real thought was given to this shoot before printing. Ruth Osime isn't a trained journalist, she's another Linda just winging it to make cash. Its situations like this that show how inadequate they are with the position they have.
You see....all this diaspora diaspora people leave Nigeria for greener pastures, then come back forming accent and being better than those of us back here. How can a photographer not recognize the sensitivity of an issue as serious as RACISM.As for Eku, get off your high horse and apologize, I know your not racist but right now your explanation doesn't cut it.
Some people ... Money makes people some some crazy things ... is all devil's work so I pray I don't give in to it.
The explanation does not match the picture. If those are her relatives, why is she completely white?
lmao... Abegi no one carried an umbrella for me to my new home o. women of same age bracket and older ones should b those in this picture.
Don't mind Africans. They will just jump to conclusions without doing proper findings
