According to twitter user @optimummedias, you make $25 per hour washing dishes in Adelaide, Australia. Don't know how true this is but the comments from Nigerians about this is hilarious. One person even blamed his great grandfather for not allowing himself to be sold into slavery..lol. See the comments after the cut...

After 6+yrs in medical school (luth- idiaraba). See what my life has become. Pls show me way to dt dish washin jobooo. If I can cope with dead bodies during autopsies, gross labs(cadavas).changing catheters in urology clinic on thursdays with those big big and pathologic phaluses(brokos), trust me dish washing will be like working for an oil company.

that is quite an ignorant comment. i live outside Nigeria and i know you can earn up to that amount doing menial jobs. the important thing to consider is the cost of living, for example the cost of yearly rent for a 3 bed flat in lagos would probably be lower than the cost of monthly rent for a room in Australia

Yeah, the pay is very good when you look at it that way but keep in mind that cost of living varies differently between the 2 countries especially for things like housing.

The cost is far greater in Australia. Don't get me wrong, for that money, you could lead a half decent life for a time, but it isn't as much as you'd like to believe.

Eddie punter said...

The minimum wage is 23AUD but you can be lucky to get high employers to fetch you 25-40AUD. It's a nice place to work when you are single to share apartment not couples and the flight is pretty expensive. If you go there go hustle no think of coming back after 2yrs cos na 1month money be ticket.

Listen young people, the same amt of money you can make in niga if you are wise.i came to niga for to niga for 2 weeks cabs per drop start at 5k to 15k,in a cool day you can make 20k,in a month that is the same 600k,all you jobless youth that have some nice cars in your compound can pick out one and enter the street,or better still register with the airport and do airport drop and you lot will make lot of money every month.dont always wait for jobs to come you can create one YOUR SELF

This is bullshit,In Adelaide for that matter south Australia where people find it hard to get a job, this is the biggest lie of the year. I live in perth and you wont even get that in perth. Nurses starts with 24$ an hour, with ur first degree from Aussie uni.

Unknown said...

He is stupid.. do u know the cost of living there is so high.. house rent a month will be almost 80k if not more. .. talk of feeding and electricity. The way he receives dat amount dats how he spent it.. av been der, currently in Turkey. . Not easy to stay in such places cos u spend in dollars as well

Anonymous said...

Nigerians are still looking outside for any form of living in 2015. GEJ has taken us backwards.

Anonymous said...

People like to say shit, look those that work as a carer receive only 20$ an hour, can u imagine this bullshit. How many hours are u going to work for in south Australia. No jobs in South Australia, you wont get good hours and the pay is shit. A nurse with First degree makes 24$ with 2 years experience and they only work for 8 hours a day, so calculate the amount u will earn for a fortnight. Then you will pay ur rent and car loan, couple with power and water bills and other expenses, u are left with nothing at the end of the fortnight>>>>>>>>>>>...

Anonymous said...

Some things sound good BUT are not what they seam. Not many people would be paid $25 for washing plates, maybe only for night work, most would be paid $16 an hour....and then you pay TAX. Tax can be up to 48 percent depending on your yearly income, the more you earn the more you pay.
Rent is very expensive so is food.
If you earn $25 an hour in Australia you will have enough money to pay rent(far out of the city) and food and have a small older car. Which you need, Australia is big, transport is pricey, everything is a long distance. You will not have enough money left to do much else, even cloths, clubbing, phone would be a stretch.
SO PUT IT INTO PERSPECTIVE!

This is bullshit. I lived in Sydney Australia for a few months. You may earn 25dols/hr washing dishes but the money goes right back into the system. You pay exorbitant bills weekly ranging from rent to garbage disposal costs. By the end of the month, you are left with little or nothing. I returned home because I have better opportunities here, living a more prestigious life than washing dishes. They claim they are not racists but racism exists in Australia as well. Believe me people, there is no place like home!

Wonderful comments, you guys made my evening. I left the work I came to do in the office and I'm here looking at the comments. But truth be told, Nigeria paycheck is too poor. All these suit wearing people you see in Lagos, na hungry people most of them be. As a recruiter, I have interviewed people, managers making 50 and 60,000 naira per month. I have been there too. no savings at the end of the day. Thank God my life don better now with better job wey dey pay me armed robber salary. Anybody wey see road to leave Naija should not look back. All those saying Naija is better, how many Nigerians have good life here. I have suffered in Lagos sotee i left my job cos it was just plain slavery. My rash decision brought me to where I am today. Nigerians dont pay well I will say it anywhere anyday. Period! Gone are the days when people use bankers as examples of people who make good money. Na lie now o! Bankers are not d kokos. Ask a banker if he wants another job and see what his reply will be.

Money is not everything. Even if you are making a lot of money here in Nigeria there are lots of things you are not making here. Besides the earth is too large for you to die in one corner. Better go out there and see what life has in stock for you. You talk of racism, what of the tribalism we face here everyday inside our own country? For those complaining of loneliness abroad, better marry and born children. taking them to school and to the parks alone will give you more than enough company. No excuses duh!
