Are you Nigerians for or against the recent Boko Haram ceasefire?

Let's discuss folks. I've been reading a lot of comments and articles on this matter and it looks like opinions are divided. The Nigerian military yesterday announced a ceasefire with Boko Haram after years of terrorism from the group, which has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Nigerians. The ceasefire agreement includes the release of over 200 Chibok girls - which to me is a very welcome development. There are reports that some of these girls will be released to the man who brokered the peace deal, Chadian president, Idriss Deby, sometime next week, to show they (Boko Haram) are serious about the ceasefire agreement with the Nigerian government.

But there are those who still think that the government shouldn't have negotiated with these terrorists. After the cut, you will find an article from Dr Perry Brimah of Ends.ng, about why Nigerians should reject these ceasefire deal. As for me, I support peace anytime. Too many innocent people have died unnecessary. But read and tell us if you agree with him...

Nigerians Reject Ceasefire With Boko Haram Terrorists; Use The $1bn For War, not #Election2015: #VictoryForNigeria

The people of Nigeria vehemently reject the announced ceasefire with Boko Haram terrorists at this last hour as the 2015 presidential election approaches. It defies reason how and why the Nigerian government will debase the collective intelligence and humanity and extinguish the hope of Nigerians by unilaterally agreeing to a so-called ceasefire with rag-tag terrorists who currently occupy several major cities in the north. Bama, Gwoza, Marte, Ngala, Konduga and Dikwa are still under full control of the Boko Haram terrorists.

The discussions on freeing the 4 month old abducted girls no longer has any bearing on the process of this war. When entire communities are under Boko Haram governorship, of what significance is the 234 girls? The 234 girls only comes up for global audiences who have not noticed that since the abduction, several Nigerian communities have rather fallen under Boko Haram. The Nigerian leadership must be reminded that the parents of the Chibok girls have already conducted the burial rights of their children and sacrificed them for the greater good of the country as God wishes. Who is fooling who?

The desire to have a ceasefire with these hopeless, murderous terrorists who are on the run is treacherous and follows the routine of disgraced ex-general Ihejirika who likewise allowed periods of peace after onslaught on the terrorists to allow them recover and recuperate; while in his hatred for the communities in Nigeria’s north, deliberately allowing he terrorists periods to replenish their arms and ammunitions and to forcibly recruit and train thousands of abducted and forcefully conscripted innocent northern children who will again be sacrificed and killed in the next battle with the Nigerian military when war resumes. This fight and cease cycle maintained the genocide of northern youth in the tens of thousands.

Nigerians demand fire for fire. We reject any attempt at ceasefire with the terrorists. We decree that the war with Boko Haram continues every day as we declare Boko Haram our mortal, eternal enemies to fight till either of us cease to exist.

What does President Jonathan plan to do with the $1 billion he borrowed to “fight Boko Haram” if he is negotiating with them now that we see #VictoryForNigeria in the horizon, and all we need is to continue the brave push by our men in uniform and brave Civilian-JTF? Is the $1 billion for the elections in 2015 as most have suggested?

Any negotiation short of full and unconditional surrender of all terrorists is treason and an act of terror participation and sponsorship by the army Chiefs and head of State.

There can be no ceasefire with Boko Haram.

We the Nigerian people reject any sort of negotiation with these terrorists who have freely caused us unquantifiable pain without mercy for the full 6 years of the Jonathan administration under Ihejirika and now under Maj. General Minimah.

I see where everyone is coming from: On one hand, negotiating with terrorists means a possible end to all the damage they've caused and resumption of a semi-normal life.

On the other hand, negotiating with them does not serve as a deterrent. They may try to control it and possibly believe the government is now under their control, and may get even more aggressive if their future demands aren't met.

Let's hope it's the advantageous part that comes to being in the long term.

As for me, after reading numerous Muslim former classmates' talk of how they're in support of ISIS as long as they're spreading Islam, I have determined to be wary of Muslims from now henceforth. A good number of them are silent Christian haters and terrorist apologists.

He lost me when he callously dismissed the Chibok girls as dispensable because their death is acceped by their families. It's easy to be categorical and unbending as long as it's not his kin being blown to pieces. If a negotiated ceasefire is what brings peace, so be it. It isn't ideal, but at least the bombs and loss of innocent lives stop.

I personally don't think cease fire will do us any good..I have been thinking since yesterday the news broke, why will Nigeria government think of that in the first place! To Negotiate with deadly Boko Haram to free Chiko girls and after they (Boko Horam) will start from where they stopped! Who does not know what Boko Haram want? What they want is to have islamic states where Sharia Law will be implemented, they said they want states that will be 'government of Allah by Allah for Allah..so,why negotiate cease fire with them after which they will start from where they stopped or are they (Nigeria Government) negotiating with them to allow them have islamic states? Federal government have to answer this!...my humble self don't buy this idea of cease fire! Boko Haram should be crushed!

It's good we have peace, on the other hand this means they (BH) will get away with everything they did and no justice for the families and the dead. Another point they still roam free so what is the guarantee they won't take up arms again when they feel like. It's a win loose situation, we really desperate for any peace (and understandably so) we would settle for anything. But my thought is this Government has failed it's people badly for not being efficient enough or effective and decisive in its decision making and we all paying for it. He election strategy is to do it all last minute for political points a lot is not adding up here. But just my opinion

It is sheer selfishness and callous for the FG to negotiate with boko haram at this point of human and blood sacrifice from Nigerians. If FG wanted to negotiate, why did it negotiate right from the first time that Jonathan occupied the seat of power and spare Nigerians the agony, torture and waste of human lives and properties? It is only an ignorant person that will commend the FG on this because the FG only deserves to be dragged to criminal court of justice for complicity in this boko haram saga. How come the FG is not able to tackle a 'mere sect'.......yes! a mere sect! Is a sect richer than the FG? Why didn't the FG use all human and monetary resources it has to nip this sect in bud even before they could assemble? For sure, we know that FG has a hand in it because any insurgency that lasts for more than 24 hours with a recognised FG at the helm of affairs.......naaaah! Even a blind man can see FG's complicity in it. FG shamelessly 'fought' with a small group for over four years and recorded a great casualty in the hand of the small group! Oh c'mon! Tell that to the marines!......even the marines in the far away sea know that the FG are not telling us all that they know about this. it's now obvious that the FG can not protect its citizens so everybody should protect himself the way he knows best. Very soon now the FG will start paying boko haram to help to train our military.....yes! they have been doing it since, after all is it not Boyloaf the militant that FG is paying millions of dollars to be guarding our water ways! What a rot in Nigerian government! All for the selfish reason of the people governing us. All for the coming election but they should remember that there is God.......(I am almost tempted to use 'Diaris God oooo!')

I'm so against this ceasefire...its meaningless. If the recent updates from the defense ministry concerning the massive success the nigerian army has been achieving against boko haram is anyth to go by, then this is the most appropriate time to nip this terrorist group in the bud. If boko haram can concede to a ceasefire at this point, its bc their morale is currently low due to the recurrent loss of man power and ammunition they've been experiencing at the hands of the nigerian army recently...its only a matter of time before they'll silently regroup and cause grievous unforeseen disasters to this country. In my humble opinion, I think this is the right time for the nigerian army to end boko haram. If they gullibly accept this truce, it'll come back to bite us all wen we least expect it. Goodluck Jonathan should not compromise the safety of this nation just for a clean slate for 2015.
Boko haram or not, GEJ till 2019

there should be a cease-fire, but the military should find measures to corner them without too much civilian blood.

I will say no to cease fire, the blood of our falling soldiers shall never go in vain, why negotiate now, what about the lives of thousands that have lost their lives, has Boko haram told the nation the reason for killing our citizens, displacing them, and giving our nation a bad reputation in the world. Americans will never negotiate with terrorists or take the death of one of his citizen likely how much more thousands. This Boko hara is Politically motivated and I reject negotiation with them. 2015 they might pick up their riffles again.

I'm sorry but I remember categorically that in July of 2009 while I was working in Bognor state, all the talk then was about the South-south and granting amnesty to people who were just trigger/machete/kidnap- happy! Once that scaled through, September of that year, BH presented themselves and have just succeeded in achieving the same thing.
I think Naija is just used to rewarding violence and aggression. Even in the hospitals in lagos, I have seen cases where a patient doesn't want to pay their bill after treatment, so they act very rascally, bring a few thugs to threaten, make a lot of noise and the MD will say "Pls, just let them carry their wahala away." meanwhile, patients who sincerely have no funds but calmly and quietly begs to pay half price usually will get turned down!
How much did amnesty pay 5years ago for people not working? Taxpayers money. I'm tired of working 60/80hrs a week to feed people who know how to get things in naija!

Finally, I ask humbly, how long body another body claims victimisation/marginalisation and picks up its own arms. I want peace....but I also want progress. this kind of peace doesn't bring long term progress in my opinion but let's wait and see and as bishop Dammy will say, let's pray for the best.

Mr.Jonathan'a government & cabinet are mostly full of thieves, clueless people, selfish people & unpatriotic people. Let me explain why. Look, the war against boko haram isn't conventional warfare I.e it is not a war against two countries or two known sides. It's guerrilla warfare cos we are fighting insurgents and terrorists that we don't know for certain(even though it now seems like the government knows these people but has just been lying all along that they don't know them). The insurgents/terrorists on the other hand know us and they are fighting Nigeria & everything Nigerian by every means. For them,it's a drawn line already "KILL EVERYTHING NIGERIAN EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE A REASON TO"....that's their fuel, motivation & motto, I guess. So, calling a ceasefire with these bastards is not going to change that.
If they see any Nigerian anywhere around them (even if it's in a village) during the "ceasefire" they would still kill him/her without the federal government knowing. You see? In recent times,we have been winning these bastards & their leader has once again been killed by our great Nigerian forces so they're really very disorganized right now & that means with a little more efforts, our military can clear their "soldiers" and mercenaries off. Now,if we were fighting a conventional war against another country, a ceasefire won't have been a bad idea cos if that country breaks the pact,we know where to hit them cos the location of that country is fixed and cannot change from where it is on the map. Here,we are dealing with some guerrilla terrorists that keep moving from place to place & that means that as long as they exist (even under a ceasefire pact), nowhere in Nigeria is safe cos they can just strike a place & relocate. On top of that, they are "claiming" Nigerian territory & that is a threat ....A BIG THREAT TO OUR SOVEREIGNTY & Africa as a whole. That means that they can wake up tomorrow & claim to be a republic or federation or whatever. Eg. Federation of boko haram states.
Look,a ceasefire is only an attempt by them to go regroup,re-strategize & recruit more foot soldiers(which sadly would be innocent Nigerians which they would kidnap undercover again & force to join them). Remember When boko haram first struck in 2009? In just a week or so,former president Yar'Adua's government crushed them & we thought that was it only for them to 're-surface in 2010 bigger and stronger cos we let our guard down. I say "NO" to this ceasefire cos I know it can never favour our nation in the long run. This government is only concerned about winning another term & they probably just want to use this opportunity to get a point for campaigns. Ceasefire pacts would not benefit Nigeria in the long run my people.
God Bless Nigeria.

Anyone ever heard the story about the scorpion and the frog? Just that in this story we have two scorpions (BH & FG) and we Nigerians are represented by the hapless frog. Scorpion-BH kills because... Well... They thrive on chaos. And Scorpion-FG has lies inbeded in it's DNA. So while these two scorpions may actually believe (right now) that they're putting their stingers away for the greater good, once they climb on the frog they'll sting it to death... They can't help it... It's their nature.
To believe that BH will just lay down their arms and go quietly into the night is folly (and more than a little stupid), and I strongly believe the FG knows this. So (my thoughts), the FG knows this rather well-timed "ceasefire" might just swing the People's votes their way... And they'd be back in power before BH wakes up and realizes they still have a cache of sophisticated weaponry but lack a target.

We shld embrace this peace arrangement to stop further deterioration of the north. Two wrongs do not make a right.the killings should stop.we wshould however give the terrorists stringent conditions like working out a compulsory probation peace period of two years during which period there must be no news of any killing in any part of the north.then they should be made to declare full identities of their leaders dead or alive.a.d finally the big one the unconditional release of the girls.

We should remember that either way, Nigerians are the Losers. We lose our soldiers, we lose our children whom Boko Haram conscript and don't bat an eyelid to send to their deaths in the hands of their erstwhile defenders, the Nigerian army. Sigh. A vicious cycle. The ceasefire is a welcome thing. Whoever appointed Brimah to speak for Nigerians anyway? Speak for yourself man,and rest it. While this 'peace' lasts, the Nigerian Army should work with the 'knowledge' that Boko Haram is re grouping and better organizing themselves after the recent bashing they've taken. Get the girls. Liberate Boko Haram annexes a la Gwoza. Sleep with only one eye closed. Be prepared for the worst.

Appreciate your view, but it seems you don't fully grasp the ramifications of a ceasefire with said group. This "peace", as you put it, is only an illusion. What... You think they found Jesus?
You don't make peace with a rabid dog... You put It down. What you're suggesting is we (Nigerians) embrace them and let bygones be bygones... But they (BH) are still armed... Heavily!
