The piloting of Nigeria's first Teleclinical care center, welcome to Dial-A-Doc-Direct!

What ‘Dial-A-Doc-Direct’ is? Dial-a-doc-direct is public health initiative that provides real time coordinated clinical health services through telecommunications technology; closely resembling a typical clinic visit, but this time over a distance and over the phone.Imagine, you have a call center (in this case, a care center) but one where the call center agents are medical doctors.
Termed teleclinical care centers, we will provide telesupportservices to people and patients’ alike mainly through clinical teleconsultations, telemonitoring, teletraining, telemanagement, telerehabilitation, telenursing, telehomecare etc.

What ‘DIAL-A-DOC-DIRECT’ does?

Dial-a-doc-direct supports peopleirrespective of their geographical location, by utilizing mainly telecommunication technology (telephone and video calls, text and picture messaging etc.) to deliver harmonized clinical health care, health information and/or education;by assisting clients through diverse health challenges; towards diagnosis, treatment and management of whatever illnesses or diseases, accidents or injuries, discomforts of disabilities. With a keen focus to putting consumers at the center of their own health care, our services as primary care providers will answer bio-clinical questions, offer pharmaceutical guidance and prescriptions, proffer laboratory investigations and hospital referrals, set up / monitor health programs, arrange follow up calls and plan routine e-visits; providing convenient and confidential, accessible and affordable, secure and safe, effective and efficient virtual clinical options while keeping a close perspective on international best practice. In the simplest terms, we will connect anyone with a concern to care.

How ‘DIAL-A-DOC-DIRECT’works?

To dial a doc direct, you mustfirst obtain the tele-clinical call card (prepaid rechargeable), scratch the silver panel at the back of the card to expose your personal identification number PIN. Then, simply dial our access number where you will be asked to enter your PIN; entering a valid PIN dials you to a doctor directly.  The doctor telecommutes with you through any health problems, concerns or questions, offering clarity and understanding with a focus on working with you to find solutions to your problems, resolutions to your concernsand answers to your questions.  In our virtual clinics, depending on a host of assessments, you can interact with our various health consultants, from our general practitioners to our disease specialists. Please remember, you can call us even if it is merely to seek a second opinion,as long as it is about your health, we will have your back. We will work with you in any way feasible to Optimal Health.

Where ‘DIAL-A-DOC-DIRECT’ began?

DIAL-A-DOC-DIRECT is a social health initiative developed by Public Health Partner,(PHP) - An indigenous, 21st century inspired, result-orientedpublic health consultancy, PHP develops evidence-based health solutions geared towards the preservation of public health.Sensitive to new and emerging health challenges, her dynamic leadership recognizes the profound advantage in relating a people’s health practices and policies to their existing behaviors and beliefs, doing so in ways thatdirectly or indirectly improve their personal health status and advance their population health outcome thereby, enhancing their socio-economic growth. At PHP, our vision is underpinned by a pioneering perception of health as a social construct.

Meet Dr. UbiameOmas, a principal partner at PHP Ltd. Dr. Omashas
a pretty diverse but health-specific background as a Medical Doctor (M.B.B.S University of Lagos), a Public Health Practitioner (MPH Kings’ College London; Faculty of Public Health), a Public Health Researcher (Harvard School of Public Health certified) and a Project Manager (Prince2).  Having worked most her clinical years with the Nigeria Ministry of Defence, Dr. Omas is a staunch supporter of the Nigeria Armed Forces. An avid board-gamer, Dr. UbiameOmas started Public Health Partner based on the simple principle of ‘Prevention is better than Cure’.

Great initiative especially for a third world country like ours this concept is not new but as usual in Nigeria it takes someone with real drive and tenacity to push the concept forward from planning to fruition and this is exactly what Dr Omas has done. She has faced ups and downs to get this running for our country she couldve been one of those doctors who absconded to work abroad but she saw the need to better her home country first. As they say"charity begins at home" and she has acheived. We her friends, family and colleaugues are all proud of her acheivments to say the least. Well done and thank you for this ever important service!
