In 2013, the church said the reason they did this was to reduce the number of people who come for the annual service, because the venue couldn't handle the thousands that showed up, many or whom were not even members of the church. So, it was their own way of controlling the crowd.
So the HQ sitting capacity is about 20k, and let's say half of the crowd paid N1k each, that would be about N10m for the church from just gate fee. Some say it's extortion, that no church should ever ask for money for members to attend, some say they understand why the church would insist on this. What do you think? There are hundreds of Christ Embassy Churches where the service was streamed live without tickets and for free. Members of the Church who could afford it were encouraged to buy tickets ad seeds and those who could not were given free tickets at LCC3 a&b. At the end of the day you could not enter the LCA without a ticket whether bought or given. Simplest way to control card was to know before hand the no of tickets in circulation.
Why not ask church members to go online to register and ask them to show their slips before entering for the C.O service. Collecting 1k as entry fee soils the image of the church.

People before you all get too excited there were branches open who connected to the service that those who did not get the ticket could have attended. Hey Linda, I'm sorry I had to edit my earlier post which was written in a hurry while cooked dinner last night. Here is exactly how I feel about this.
Fair enough reason Christ Embassy Church to impose a "crowd control gate fee" for new year's eve service. However, if the gate fee was a genuine crowd control measure,1: has this church paid back or does this church intend to pay back the gate fee collected from attendees? 2: Was any alternative means of "Live Broadcast" considered, to enable those who couldn't pay the gate fee have access to the service on this particular day? 3: Was any prayer offered for those who couldn't afford to pay the gate fee? It will be very helpful if this church could answer these basic questions. At the very least, a very good response will boost the failling popularity of this church and portray the overseer in something close to the man he should emulate in humility - Jesus Christ the son of God. I judge nobody but I feel we all should remind our dear pastors supposedly preaching the gospel that, Jesus Christ was the most humble man on earth during his time and still is. He gave to the people, particularly the poor and asked for nothing in return. In addition, he fed multitudes, thousands of people and took nothing for his kind gesture. Nowhere in the bible did Jesus or his disciples dismiss anyone who came to hear the word of God simply because they couldn't afford to pay a fee to join in the ''crowd". Think people........if the message from God, brought to you by some of these churches is too good to be true, then it probably is. If the attitude and presentation of those bringing the message does "NOT" resemble that of the son of God, I'm sorry I cannot describe such people as "Men/Women of God". It is wise to think carefully about our interaction with such people. Reading the bible, getting to know the message it brings and having faith in the power of God will save us a lot of pain and misery. And the good thing is, we don't have to pay to receive the Word of God if it is genuine and comes from a genuine source. Apparently this is a mistake. He probably has not viewed this from our own perspective 'denial of opportunity just because of condition'. Just imagine, a beggar who got there very early will be denied entrance just because of 1k, meanwhile a wealthy man who gets there 1hr30mins into to service will be allowed to go in. If only they allowed first come first serve and shut the door when the auditorium was full and then directed the late comers to other branches, that same service would have held perfectly! Be wise and objective at all times.
There is no excuse for collecting gate fee, when your church is full to capacity, send everybody else back.

Downtrodden, poverty stricken people burdened by the anxiety of where their next meal might come from probable showed up at these church gates with hopes of pouring out their hearts to God as they entered the new year. It is these people- those who could not afford the N1000, those in dire suffering- who were turned away. Think about it. I try not to get involved in religion related things but seriously if you in a church and something is being done that doesn't sit well with your spirit you should know you in the wrong place.

My church had a new year service and to control crowd capacity, we were asked to get tickets before the day FOR FREE. Never heard of a church charging its members to worship God. Just sad

B.S.! It should be based on a "first come, first serve" basis. If the church reaches the required # of people it can hold, all gates should be closed. Bars/clubs do this, hospitals do this, so why can't a church??
