Ocholi’s driver had licence - Colleagues say

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) released a statement last week saying that the driver who drove the Ocholis last week had no license when he was driving them but his colleagues say this is not true. Taiwo James Elegbede was driving the former Minister of State for Labor, James Ocholi, his wife and son when they were involved in a fatal accident.

According to The Tribune, Elegbede's colleagues at the transport department of the Ministry of Labour and Employment said Taiwo is a licensed driver who had served the ministry for over 25 years. They said Taiwo's drivers license expired on January 15th 2016 and he had applied for another one but getting a licence from FRSC takes forever.

The drivers also said the Lexus 570 SUV Taiwo was driving the minister and his family in was not their car but one given to Ocholi from office of the Head of Service and the driver wasn't allowed to examine the car to check its condition and it also wasn't the driver's duty to do any sort of maintenance on the car.

According to Taiwo's colleagues, he had gone for a mechanical/electrical engineering course at the training school in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was a Higher Works Superintendent and was highly professional on his job.

It has happened and nothing can be done about it. The government should be focused on renovating our roads especially adamawa road instead of investigating what will not bring back d dead

They are looking for who to blame. Ocholi is dead and he is not the first person to die due to accident. May his soul rest in peace. So can we now move on?

For me, having a valid driving license is neccessary but a more critical issue is for FRSC to state the speed that the was moving at the time of the accident.

Unknown said...

Toh...they just killed that man

Unknown said...

You dey see am? Many employers in Nigeria are quick to exonerating themselves from issues of this kind thus laying blames in order to come clean. FRSC shame to you. At least a good Nigerian has come to Taiwo's defence even in his death with a clear evidence and evident truth.

From the legal view of it,once it has expired,it is invalid.in that case,he did not have drivers license.

Unknown said...

That is how one is denied in Nigeria once something goes wrong. FRSC releasing fake statement to make it seem they are working.

Unknown said...

This drivers license appeared fake. How can a man of almost fifty years have a license with 2013 as first date of issue. How long has he been driving? It's likely a case of road side drivers license

Unknown said...

What has he not having a license got to do with the unfortunate accident???let them let this man at abeg...,.

Anonymous said...

Government is just looking for whom to blame, totally unfair to blame this driver for anything.

Unknown said...

Fact

Anonymous said...

They should just not deny this man's family anything due him ooo. With all this stories.

Unknown said...

If truly he didn't have a driver's license and was employed by a minister then our system is dead, wrong people in the the right places, those people just coming out with all kinds of stories, the other time they said the driver came out of the car with just a scratch, and was taken pictures putting it on social media, only to find out the driver also lost his life, abeg make them leave us with this story. , we have got too much to worry about at this time in Nigeria

Unknown said...

The FRSC director think he speaking to kids in this nation, how will a driver that’s driving the Honourable Minister not have a driving license? The question is Who employed the driver to be attach to the Minister? How will someone without no license get a job to driver a minister?

Useless road safety pple I don't blame dem when de don't hv good records on their systems

The issue we have is the nature of our roads, the FRSC always take advantage of spolt roads to stop cars, so it's as if they pray for the road to always be bad, if proper investigation is done the accident could be as a result of bad road, here they are talking about drivers license,In this country our problem is leaving the major for minor.people must ve been dying on the same road govt and we may not care, now our minister pls let's do something about our roads first before looking for whom to blame of having license or not.I still love nig.but we need serious prayers for a better change.

From the picture, the licence has expired so they are not wrong saying he doesn't have any driver's licence. But what i don't like is blaming the driver for their death.

a fake license or an expired one is as good as NO LICENSE.
