I am not in Nigeria to negotiate any loan- Lagarde says

Visiting MD of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, Christine Lagarde says she is not in Nigeria to push for a loan to be made available to the country as Nigeria does not need any of their interventions
"I am not here to negotiate loan with conditionalities because Nigeria does not need a new IMF programme.”
She told state house correspondents after her meeting with Buhari.

Suuuuurreee....so what are you hear for then? To climb Zuma Rock? Abeg, bounce jor! Breton-Woods et al only serve their own interests! Yes. Those of us that know how you award...or rather force loans that was previously awarded for the same project so you can tack on crazy interest rates and keep us perpetually in debt! Buhari, same way you held in 1985, before IBB came and allowed this people ruin our country, please hold strong! They do not wish us well!

It's good we are having the MD of IMF paying a visit to our president. It suggests something positive is happening around this country even though we may not all see for now. That being said,I think we need to be very careful in our dealings with IMF. The organisation is not an NGO and no one should expect that this visit is just to exchange pleasantries with Mr. President. It is surely a business development meeting for IMF. I understand that IMF loans are usually structured in an awkward manner. For instance, if you want say, $2b to execute healthcare project, IMF will grant the loan and also dictate how you will spend the money! They will bring you consultants from abroad to carry out project feasibility and other technical requirements to the loan. By the time all technicalities are done, almost half of your loan is gone. So, how then will you be able to truly achieve success from the loan? Let it be made clear that no country in Africa has ever made good success out of IMF loan(s). Not even one. This is due to the way the loans are structured as I just described. Cheers guys...

This is not a good sign. Why not invite foreign independent auditors to access our books? (If that was the intent) because IMF presence in Nigeria references PMB claim that the country is broke. It would further drive foreign investors away.

I wonder the logic and rationale of this visit. What's the economic vision of this Go ernment? It goes beyond trying to implement a budget.

Very good point. Pls enlighten some people on this blog. All technical skills are imported along with materials and reduced from loan leaving us with change. If we don't,they start all -ve ratings for our economy. We have wise up now.
