"Laid back nurse, no Haitians, must have strong respiratory mngt," read the ad in the Oct. 15 issue of the New City Pennysaver.The company apologized today after many people called it 'offensive' but offered no explanation about how the discriminatory notice made it into a local New York newspaper.
The advertisement for a nurse in West Haverstraw, N.Y., was taken down, but not before it spread on social media, sparking outrage among members of Rockland County's Haitian community.
Interim HealthCare Inc., a national franchise that provides in-home care, apologized for the ad in a statement Monday, calling it "totally unacceptable" and "offensive."
"I can assure you that we take this seriously," said regional president Katherine McNally.
"We have engaged an independent third party to conduct a comprehensive review of what occurred," McNally said. "All policies and procedures will be reviewed to assure that it will never happen again. We have already taken action and will continue to do so. Please accept our sincere apology. In particular, we apologize to the entire Haitian community."

I wonder why Haitians were singled out. Even if, not saying they are, but even if they are 'bad' people,, I am sure they are a lot more countries with a bad stereotype...so why 'No Haitians?' I just wonder.

-@ Igwe . I am Haitian and my husband is Nigerian. As an avid reader of LIB I was very offended when I saw the article on FB. Haiti is the first free black republic, and the only successful slave revolt in history. 300,000 slave died for our independence. Our African ancestors fought the French 13 years to free us from the bondage of slavery in 1804. Haiti is 94 percent African descent. There's only 3 revolution in the world and the Haitian Revolution is one of them. Haiti rich heritage , history, culture came from Africa. Therefore we are black in case you were not aware of the fact.
The Haitian community in New York, is the second largest outside of Miami with 400, 000. most of the ethnics group ( specially the black one) get discriminated against and experience racism all the time in the US. We have a large percentage of Doctors, Nurses physical Therapist and Phamacist in NYC that greatly contributed to their healthcare system. As I know because racism is alive and well in America, things such as these does not surprise me anymore.
Someone should sue!
