Dear LIB readers; if you suspect a baby isn't yours, how do you go about it?

My girlfriend gave birth on July 3rd but I am convinced I am not the father of the child. For one, the boy looks nothing like me, and secondly, I didn't sleep with her nine months before the baby was born. We had sex in early September last year before I left for Germany and I didn't see or touch her till Christmas 2014. She gave birth July 3rd, ten months after we had sex. Isn't a woman's term of pregnancy just nine months? If she had given birth in June, I wouldn't have bothered but as it is, I have my suspicions but don't know how to say it to anyone in case I am wrong. What do I do?
If you have any reservations about the baby, then go for test and ascertain the paternity. But when you were having sex without protection with your girlfriend, you should expect such issues. Unprotected sex doesn't result in new jet but new baby.

Dude if truly you stay in Germany as you claim then it's easy Just cut few strands from the Baby's hair and take it with you to Germany for DNA but mean while the baby might be yours becos at times there are delays in due dates. For one I was born the 11th month instead of 9 months.

Before you make a mistake you'l regret, some women can carry a pregnancy longer than 9 months. It's not so common but it's normal. Do a paternity test in secret, if the baby is yours, then it's fine, if it's not,then you can decide what to do. You might end up loving the child, after all a real father is one who brings up a child.
Some women do give birth in 10months. Same way some babies are premature, some are actually overdue. Do DNA test. The baby doesn't need to look like you now
Lol don't be silly. Some babies stay longer than others. My brother had to be induced because he refused to come out. Some babies are just stubborn. Also, it's not like the baby came out end of July...just the third. You can ask her for a paternity test but be prepared to look stupid and risk losing her if the baby turns out to be yours. Are you the only one that donated genes to the baby? Maybe it doesn't look like you because it looks like it's mother. Your suspicions are baseless unless she has cheated before.
If its a month delay, I don't think u should have anything to worry about. Things like this do happen sometimes but will advice u to secretly do DNA test when the child is of age. U know just to be on the safe side. #GodSpeed

What people don't know is that a fetus's gestation period is actually 10months and not 9 (I really don't know where people got the 9-month thing from). When women are given their EDD, it's 10months from the day of their last periods 1.e 40 weeks. So if your girl had the baby 10months after you had sex then CONGRATULATIONS . . . you a baby daddy!

Dear man, some women delivers at 10, 11, even 12 months. The child might be ur own but since u v ur doubts, I advice u go for a DNA test nd be careful in handling it so u won't create enemity between u nd her cos if d child turns out to be urs at d end, she will be hurt. Goodluck.

In humans, birth normally occurs at a gestational age of about 40 weeks, though it is common for births to occur from 37 to42 weeks. So if u divide 42 weeks by 4 u get 10.5 months. So d possibility ur d father of d baby is not out of place. If ur not still convinced n do not trust ur gf, then go for a DNA test. You need to tread carefully- some women have pregnancies that can last as long as 40 weeks (yes, 10 months) and also, it is not always possible to tell whether or not baby is yours just by physical appearance alone- the only solution is a DNA test and then confront her if the baby isn't yours.

First of all, ur calculation is wrong. If u slept with her in september then her time of birth is probably correct taking into consideration time of implantation n all. With our ladies, one can never be sure anyways. Get a DNA done. Simple

I guess the baby is yours, count from september to july, it approximately nine months. Also a woman can give birth at 38 weeks which is two weeks over nine months its normal. You don't need to be scared, the fact that the baby doesn't look like you facially doesn't mean he's not your child, try checking other features such as the nails, hair, attitude, nose, mouth, or any other birth mark you have. Or better still give the baby sometime to grow, they tend to change looks you know but before all these be mindful of making rash decisions so as not to lose your son if eventually he is and also learn to trust your girlfriend... Am a sonographer a woman can give birth on full term of 40 wks which is ten months eailer than that or few days after that when I mean earlier its any moment from 38 wks upfront. Dna test,she doesn't have to know .... Just collect a sample of the baby's saliva. The baby could be your cos conception could happen after some days and she also might have passed her due date by days or weeks.

You need to be careful how you look at this. Has she been unfaithful to you in the past? Do you hear funny stories about her especially when you were not around? A standard pregnancy is between 38 - 40 weeks (plus or minus 2 weeks) not exactly 9 months like you think. Again, pregnancy durations are calculated from the first day of the woman's last menstrual cycle before a missed period. If you factor in these facts, you may well be the baby's Dad. However, there is no surer way of knowing than to carry out a DNA test. Based on the initial facts I've given you, if you are still not convinced you are the baby's Dad, then request a DNA but be prepared for any eventuality as she may feel bad especially if she's been faithful to you all the while. You may also secretly seek a medical opinion.
