Plateau state Governor appoints his son as one of his commissioners

The Governor of Plateau state Jonah Jang has appointed one of his sons, Yakubu Jang, as the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Planning in the state.

Yakubu's appointment was announced by the state's Commissioner for Information, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar yesterday December 21st. According to the Commissioner, Yakubu who was until his recent appointment his father's special adviser on Special duties, was promoted to the office of a Commissioner following the immediate past commissioner, Yilji Gomwalk's resignation to pursue his political appointment as a running mate to the PDP Guber flag bearer in the state, Mr. Gyang Pwajok.

Nepotism is allowed in governance provided that the person who is favoured is qualified enough to assume that position. Who does not know that it happens all the time in appointments in Nigeria? Take the case of JFK who appointed his brother Robert as attorney general and many more.

The governor himself is going 2d senate where he'd be for the next 8yrs too so dat gns will take over from him while his son becomes governor. That's why most Plateau peeps are doing APC next year. Linda!pls let the world know, this man[Jang] is a very selfish man...people rally round to vote him,but look at what he is trying to do!he picked his relation as the flag bearer, when its the turn of the southern part to produce the next governor he claims there's no zoning in d constitution, yeah agreed, but if not for this zoning he wouldn't have been a governor,Dariye would've picked someone from his family too.day of reckoning will surely come...if he thinks this state is his personal property he'll see...bloody nepotic tyran.......

I personally don't think that there is anything wrong with that if the man is qualify and there is no law barring him. His father aspiration should not be a hindrance to him in realizing his own.

CONGRATULATIONS TO HIM.

Unknown said...

as a trained technocrat, i don't subscribe to one having vested interests in politics especially having any member of your family in government with you as chief executive... the same way,it is morally wrong and ethically wrong to have a family member on the same board/management with you as the CEO/President as it could lead to conflict of interests for the organization.

Na so...Family bizness

Great! Keep it in the family

Unknown said...

It's very unfortunate these things happens in Nigeria, how can a governor be running a state like personal business??? Is he telling us that the state doesn't have qualified people for such a position than he would now pick his son as the best candidate for the job, well, posterity will judge.

#BetterDaysAhead... #Saylawcharles

Anonymous said...

This is bad

Anonymous said...

What is the position of our constitution on this? But in common sense, this is not right because there are a lot of competent people in the state who can do it better. this is how their actions breed terror when they perpetuate injustice to people just because they have the power.

Anonymous said...

The people of the state should protest this anywhere it is happening in Nigeria. It is undemocrtaic...

@Julz
I am speechless, you mean he has nephews and cousins holding down the position for his son. Na waa for them o.Not too bad to fix in his son if he is qualified but that part about having other family member holding down the governorship position so that the son can get it in the future is overdoing things, haba.
