I've said all I can on this topic.People demand transparency & when someone dares to be one, they criticize him. This issue of loyalty is what all of us including the person tweeting this would do if we are in that position. But we prefer LIES instead of TRUTH.Loyalty + Ability = African politics.People should learn from Jonathan!

Anonymous said...

Merit without loyalty is dead on arrival. I would rather go for a loyal wife than an unloyal super merited wife. Same goes for appointing people into very sensitive positions. You need people loyal to your ideas to get the job done the way you want.

Kikinson said...

It was both loyalty and merit. It is what it is. What are components in moving this country foward? If you ask me I say competence and loyalty to the cause.

In politics you need loyal people to work with. Ask Jonathan, Sanusi past CBN Governor had all the merit but was not loyal to Jonathan. His unloyal behaviour cost Jonathan the presidency at the end. People with merit can pull the rug and destroy you if they are not loyal to you.

I want to first ask a question here, what makes someone to be loyal to a brand?, and I'll answer, cos d brand merits it. If I continue to patronise a particular brand of a product, it is cos that brand provides d satisfaction that I require(d). Buhari over d years has been all about some ideals and ideologies, which are INTEGRITY, DISCIPLINE, MERITOCRACY e.t.c, which are d basic fundamental principles to a fair and just government. One thing about men who esteem higher principles and are not fallible is that they attract themselves, usually a square peg attracts a square hole, and like trade when d right product meets d right consumer, there is a tendency for perpetual loyalty. My point is, if there wasn't mutual connection of interest and values between Buhari and his loyalists, they would have repelled each other, but because Buhari knows their merits, is why he has proved his loyalty by plugging d right people in d right positions. In essence, he only chose persons of same ideologies. And really, no one has faulted those guys on d basis of merits.

Plus ,the CONSTITUTION WHICH REPRESENTS US SO TO SAY,ALLOWS THE PRESIDENT TO APPOINT WHOEVER HE DEEMS FIT!!!!!!
This isnt the ministerial list,so we are not talking about ' federal character' here!!!

They got the positions on merit following their loyalty. These terms are not mutually exclusive of each other. Loyal people deserve merit and that is ok

Anonymous said...

Some times I wonder what Nigerians want, so if he picks people he trusts that align with his principles, that makes him bad. Abeg naija people should chill. Even American president took people loyal to him. The past administration took crooks loyal to him, and no one made noise even as they looted the country. Abeg u people should allow this man do his job to get us out of the mess PDP put us in.

I get your point, but you weren't being very critical. It's true that one would always be tempted to surround himself with loyalists, with people that will always have the same ideals and will support him, but doesn't that sound a bit like a monarchy regime.

We are a democratic regime that votes in politicians from diff parties, you honestly think ALL politicians must be loyal to buhari before they are elected. Remove bias from your mind and think about it. So supposing i'm more talented and mature, just cos i'm not close with him or licking his boots, he wnt employ me but go for someone who he trusts to do his bidding but on a lower intellectual level. In other words, our INEC chairwoman(i will keep hitting on this since we are all selectively blind to that all of a sudden) is LOYAL to buhari first before the country, in other words we have robots in political positions programmed to do as he wishes. So what happens if along the line, we no longer want him there? Power corrupts remember? In this case the man has absolute control, NOONE is keeping him in check!

Do you think everyone working with obama or every successful western country president are 'loyal' to them? I'm amazed at some of you. The most important thing is that they should be loyal to the country. Not the president. Those rules are there in democracy for a reason, they help to prevent the rise of a dictator.

Okay, we are not praying for buhari to become a dictator but he has set a dangerous precedence. Tomorrow, another president will adopt his absolutely lopsided appointment mechanism and employ people from just a tribe who are LOYAL to him, and prolly leave the ministries threadbare for a year, Well buhari started it and we dint complain, so why the hell should we talk when another person does it?

I'm nt trying to say you shouldnt absolutely support the president. Thats okay, we'l all have diff preferences ryt? Prolly some of us are yet to see in him what his loyalists see in him, but you dint support him during the elections more than that kayode guy, m just saying you shouldnt get it twisted just cos you are biased. He goofed on that loyalist point.

Youth wey suppose get brain sef don allow corruption wash away en brain. If u knw lik d man selection, go hug transformer or make u chill for ur time so u can use ur enemy as ur secretary, P.A,SGF... so ur life can be completely finish. It s simple, while developing yasef, be loyal to d pple u meet in ur journey of life. Dos guys re loyal to him n fortunately they r qualified!!! Am sure der r more loyal pple to him dt but he cant select cos they might not have the required experience and qualification. so lets jst take a chill pill n allow this man use his wisdom in sanitizing this country.

1 NAIJA said...

He can only goofed if dos selected are not competent or qualified! If a company put on an advert for a vacant position using 2.1 as criteria. Many folks wid 2.1 will apply and they ll end up picking jst 1 or 2 out of d applicants. They let go of odas not because they dnt av the qualification but bcos dos selected are in one way or d oda av extra quality the coy is looking for. My point s dis, dos guys re not jst qualified but still very loyal. If you need to understand d strength behind loyalty, go get a dog n train him well!!!

Kayode, I completely agree with you. Big time goof.

People who are now defending loyalty are the same people that insisted the appointments were purely on merit. Now it is merit and loyalty goes together. No merit and loyalty does not always go together and you do not need people to be loyal to you to serve the country. that leads to sycophancy. What you need are people who are loyal to the country and buy into your vision for the country.

So how is he going to choose ministers from states that he does not have any relations or relationship with. Loyalty will not give us good or the best ministers not appointments that will lead this country to greater heights. Buhari must have a vision for the country and communicate this forcefully to the competent people he finds and that will guarantee loyalty to his vision.

I do not need to like you or be loyal to you to work for you or together with you. Period.

Stupid tweet of the day from one of the wailing wailers for scarcity of a fault to cling on. Even an idiot know that appointment takes more than merit/competence. Loyalty is very crucial. Leadership principle has it that any leader that wants to succeed importantly chooses by merit/competence, but does that without undermining LOYALTY. A Leaders that would succeed chooses competent people he's comfortable and confident of their loyalty, NOT drawing his team from a band of competent antagonists. Both criteria are not mutually exclusive , dummy!
