Babcock University today unveiled the new school fees and many students aren't happy about it. One student told LIB that last year she paid N690k and now she's paying close to N900k this semester. See screenshots of the increased fees and what some of the students are saying after the cut...

worst part is that school is resuming on the 31st of august! Pls I'm
in my final year, I don't know how my parents will fund such a huge sum
in such short time. Please help us! Let the whole
world see how wicked, insensitive, and commercial this school is." on student said
"Our school suddenly increased the fees by
well over N200k just a week before school resumes. Things are hard and
the school isn't even considerate of that. They look for all avenues to
exploit student, like making a N60k educational tab compulsory.
Pls appeal to the school to do a downward review
of the fee so as some of us won't have to drop out." another student told LIB.
"I am a student of Babcock University, 400level who is left with just a semester to leave school. However, just yesterday, it was noted that the school fees has been increased by almost 100%. For someone like me who is initially meant to pay 300k now is paying 580k. However, the students association tried their best to negotiate this out, but it seems like exercise in futility. We
have decided to go through media to bring the attention of the public
to help us fight this out, as students cannot protest as this will
result to immediate suspension and expulsion from the institution." said another student
"Law Students will now pay 1.5million as against the 700/800k as of last session. Theology students will also pay 800k as opposed to the 350k they paid last session." a student said

For those of you abusing those who are in Babcock or that its a glorified secondary school, we can see your strength in the labour market. We know some federal and state university students who can't explain the what they spent over four years in University to learn.
As a graduate of Babcock University, I sincerely feel your pain. Its a pity BUSA CAN NEVER and WILL NEVER do anything about it. The student association is controlled by the school. Babcock has never had the student's interest at heart NEVER! am talking about a school where the VC and his wife has turned it into a personal business and family thing. Maybe they are trying to gather their final wealth before his tenure finishes. I remember Makinde telling me on phone that "God doesn't favor mediocrity" because I pleaded on behalf of thousands of students that he should let people with "D" grade to graduate.
Makinde is a mindless, soulless, person and I wonder what will become of B.U before he finishes his tenure. I think it's high time EFCC looks into this absurd, modern day Yahoo yahoo.
With all the money we've been paying so far, BU should be ranking high in amenities BUT alas its not so......I WILL SIGN THE PETITION.

Most of the people that go to these private schools don't meet the cut off mark for jamb for federal schools like Unilag. All this talk about fear of strike na lie! If u meet the cut off mark u will enter a good federal school. Besides I studied pharmacy entered Unilag 2009 and was done by 2014. I'm praying for u people sha. Hehehe. My Unilag school fees for 5 years was 50k pere! Hostel fee was never more than 32k!

This is very inconsiderate...I am in 300lvl, and have been paying 4 i.t compentence and i.t certification....nd I have gotten nada....nd you come nd increase the skul fees to more than 200k nd add a compulsory tabs....most of us that already have tabs, what are we gonna do with two tabs?.....diz is disheartening

This is unacceptable, I am a Babcock Student and this is just a way of exploiting the student. People that are not here do not understand what we face, it's more like a modified public university. People think most people didn't pass their JAMB well I had 241 in JAMB and I have friends that had over 270 in JAMB. The increase in school fees is absurd because there has been no change in infrastructure, food and who needs a tab!!! This has to be open to the media to assist us to fight against this. We here work very hard, you can't even bribe a lecturer in my department, you get what you work for. People think things are easier in Babcock, some of the lecturers came from public universities. People that come out with first class are the hardworking ones, they might not be the smartest but they read very well to prepare for their exams and tests. I'm not on a first class but i hate it when people criticize Babcock students saying that it's just for people who did not pass JAMB and WAEC. We want the public to assist us and not to criticize. People commenting about studying abroad, it's more expensive after adding up all the costs, accommodation, feeding and even tuition. Parents who choose private universities take into consideration many factors before deciding that their children will go to private schools. You don't have to be rich to come to Babcock, so many parents sacrifice for their children to have the best education, it might not be the best of the best but it fits theit preferences.
We need you people to publicize this so that they can reduce the fees. Thank you

My fellow babcock student, there is really no need raining insult on this low mentality people because they are already an insult. they are only saying rubbish because they are not opportune to school in private university and am even sure that most of them have never smell the four walls of private schools since they where born, they have lived all their lives from one public school to another. Imagine them saying we are going to private schools because we are dumb. i scored 254 in my jamb and have a friend who scored 310 and was giving a scholarship to study in this same Babcock. i am very sure that most of this people saying we should go to federal uni are not even in the federal school, probably they are in one polytechnic or even college of education. most them didn't even score up to 180 in their jamb,well i have friends who schools in federal uni they are also complaining of how lecturers abuse them sexually and they won't have anything to do about it because they might given carry over in that course. lectures decided who to give upper and who not to give. All we ask from the press is to assist us to fight this injustice done to us not to give us your opinion about private school
