DPR seals NNPC, Forte Oil, 12 other petrol stations for scamming motorists

The Department of Petroleum Resources on Friday stormed several filling stations at Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki and Ketu, in Lagos and shut down 14 stations for manipulating their dispensing pumps and over-charging buyers, among other offences.

While all the affected stations had N87 per litre on their pumps as the selling price, the pumps were under-dispensing petrol, with almost one litre lost by buyers for every 10 litres bought.

The affected stations include Mobil at Owode bus-stop, Ikorodu; So Super Limited (Sahara), Ogolonto, Ikorodu; General Oil Limited, Ketu; Walesaf, Owode-Idera bus-stop, Ikorodu, and HS Petroleum at Ketu.
At Mobil, 150 litres of water were also found in 30,000 litres of PMS in one of its tanks.
Two pumps were sealed at MRS station at Alapere, Ikorodu road.
At the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation station, Irawo bus-stop, Ikorodu road, three of its pumps were sealed for under-dispensing.
At Ibeju-Lekki, Kaz Oil, Lakowe; Forte Oil, Gulf road, Lakowe; Ona Ara Oil and Gas Station; Forte Oil, Molete; Wakass, Igando-Oloja; Forte Oil, Abule Folly Ibeju, and Forte Oil, Oribanwa were all sealed.
The Forte Oil station at Oribanwa was sealed for hoarding 24,000 litres of PMS and refusal to open pumps for testing by the DPR officials.

Kaz Oil, whose pumps read N86.50 per litre at the time of the visit, under-dispensed petrol by 0.8 litre for every 10 litres, thereby making the public buy the product above N90 per litre.
Ona Ara Oil and Gas station, where there was no one to attend to the DPR inspectors, was sealed as the officials believed the pumps were switched off and abandoned on the news that the DPR was at the nearby station, Kaz Oil.
At Forte Oil along Gulf road, Lakowe, two of its pumps were under-dispensing by 0.98 litre and 1.06 litre for every 10 litres.
Wakass and Forte Oil at Molete filling stations were closed down for short-changing buyers by 0.82 litre and 0.95 litre respectively for every 10 litres.
At Forte Oil, Abule Folly, the pumps were under-dispensing by as much as 1.26 per litre for every 10 litres, meaning that a buyer who was there to buy 10 litres got less than 9 litres.
The Zonal Operations Controller, Lagos, DPR, Mrs. Chioma Njoku, in an interview with newsmen at the end of the exercise, said the affected stations would be made to pay a fine of N100,000 each.
She said, “Some of them engage in manipulating their pumps that under-dispense to the public, which is a way of over-charging the buyers and they bear the brunt of it when caught.”

The beginning of a new dawn.....only stupid ppl, corrupt ppl, wicked ppl, bigots, tribalists, sore loosers, wailing wailers, or any combination thereof will keep on questioning the good intentions of this govt. With the fullness of time it will all become clear...God speed to PMB and this new government

Could there be a hotline through which consumers can report filling stations that undergo such practices

Anonymous said...

DPR should also visit Randuk filling station at Bucknor, after jakandr estate, isolo and Energy filling station at ilepo bus stop, egbe road, ejigbo dey r bunch of criminals.energy still sells for N105 per litre

Jade said...

Tears of joy! Finally something is being done to check these criminals. To think I was bullied by a fuel station attendant at Total around Jibowu for a tip during the "fuel scarcity", and even paid above 87 naira per litre. In spite of this theft, to think they'd adjust the pump. robbery!

Unknown said...

And who are those idiot saying buhari is not working? who are those saying we are not still going to buy fuel for #50 per litre, #80 will be 1dollar, president buhari want to be an icon, he his there to make Nigeria better, he his there cos he want his name to reign till and after his death.......... pls comment him positively cos he has started making the change......... kemisola said it.

DPR should come to Mobil Festac new bridge owned by a DPR official and check their pumps. They have been ripping people off for years now.

I am so impressed with this development... All those yeye petrol stations along Ikorodu road have been doing this for a long. Well done DPR!!!.. pls comb other areas as well oh (I wept for d state of corruption in this country when I bought fuel at Mobil in Maryland and discovered that there was no significant difference from where my fuel was before and after i made the purchase)

It's high time they visit filling stations along Abeokuta express road cos the thieves there are not here.

Anonymous said...

Please they should go to mobil @ jakande roundabout, lekki. Those people are thieves. Their 1000N worth of fuel is equal to Oando's 500N worth of fuel. Their pump is the worst I have ever encountered.

Unknown said...

Aha! Pls they should b punished accordingly so dat dis wil serve as deterrent to others.

Bloody hypocrites....
This na fear of buhari!
Were they not constantly taking bribes to keep quiet about this?
My friend is a filling station manager- he doles out 300k/month to them so as not to check the calibration..so all of a sudden they are checking and sealing?
Sai baba!!! We voted right...the leader matters..

Anonymous said...

My humble opinion........l think a fine of N100,000 is ridiculously low...they shud be fined millions for short changing Nigerians.....and b charged to court

Dear DPR inspectors. Thank U for this exercise it is expected since there is VIP
Visitor in 9ja now call CHANGE. Pls don't stop there this should be done through Lagos state bcos all these filling stations has turned us to their ATM. Kindly come to alimosho LG especially along Abeokuta express by the end of the exercise the prison will be full and the government will have part of the money they have extorted from us. Weldone and God bless U.

Nice one but pls extend to Ojo local government, manipulating their fuel pumps is the norm of the day for them thieves. Especially ajangbadi and Shibiri areas

Forte oil , near holy trinity church maitama ...forte oil ph. .even MRS a lot of them have been adjusting their meters for a few years now ..its about time they have fuel inspectors on fuel pump ..you buy fuel and you feel like they are blowing air into your tank ..you drive for 3 or 4 days and your fuel is almost empty ... so wrong they need to be charged heavily 1M and above ...

Pls let dpr also do sonething about this mini lpg filling points scattered everywhere. It is illegal. They all dont have operating licences and they are functional. A family lost the mother and first son on monday after an explosion. They man said he bought gas from a new skid plant on ofada road called aina gas. There now too many in lagos and Several cases of gas explosions have been reported. Another explosion happened again in green land estate, mowe killing the housegirl while the kids had gone for holiday lesson. It was reported that they bought gas from a skid plant in the estate, allan shittu gas. How can someone put a gas plant in an estate where the houses are all clustered putting peoples lives in danger cos of money. Pls save yourselves from death and stop buying gas from untrusted retailers. Since they dont have the licence to operate, they cant load at the depot so they buy gas from other sources which is not suitable for our hot temperature. Pls dobt patronize them because theirs is cheaper. Dont let 200 or 300 naira difference kill u, ur family and destroy all uve worked for. Buy gas from a proper gas plant. Pls share and adhere.

Unknown said...

nice on, but they would have fined them more , becos they made more than 100 k from people . before DPR busted them

Anonymous said...

While comending DPR's efforts, N100k actually seems like a tap on the wrist. Corruption at any point or level shouldn't be taken lightly and there should be severe deterent. DPR has always been in existence but I'm glad we now all see their usefulness, thanks to the one we pray for everyday. President M. Buhari, for the changes you bring, it cannot be over stated how long we have all waited painfully for it. May God Almighty continue to bless the work you do. Generations will sing your praise and your name will forever be written in the sands of our time, Amen!!

James Garrick said...

He no go betra for you this guy. Are u not the one condemning PMB over dat yeye guy's article. You are here saying good one. Olodo and bloody hypocrite.

Anonymous said...

Please come to Port Harcourt DPR..this is commonplace in PH.

Anonymous said...

Dear president Buhari, I will like u sir to sack most DPR officials, they have bn collecting bribes from filling stations managers many till now, that they woke up if at all they hv. Let them be replaced with credible pple. If u do dis, tins will change for Gud. Benue state DPR officials are not even working at all. We are bn cheated day by day.

James Garrick said...

Oh Ms. George for your mouth? I thought you said this is a thief govt? Abi cheating and stealing no be the same thing? I talk am ur comments and ur head/brain are at war with themselves.

The fear of PMB, suddenly everyone is now working, where were they before now? Haba 100k fine! Madam DPR be realistic.

Okewole Babatunde said...

100,000 is damn too small. Why don't they make it pay through their noses by spending some of their life time in jail,to serve as a deterent to other thieves like them?Nonsense opportunist and their corrupt supporters like them. Apart from PMB punishment, hell ducking fire await you all asshole bastards!

Unknown said...

That's a good one.

Unknown said...

Good work by DPR, but pls extend your operation to Port Harcourt, as all the filling Station here are ripping us off. I bought fuel from an NNPC filling station here in rumuodomaya and it was purely a scam. I have a 2004 camry with total fuel capacity less than 70leters, but my half-filled tank took 62lts (according to the station pump) and it took me hours of confrontation with the station management before they asked me to pay for 40lets of the 62 sold for me.
It is that bad here in ph.

The Warri Boy said...

DPR should do the whole of Amuwo Odofin LGA a massive favour and check out the Mobil Station just before the Festac new bridge, (not sure about this one) the Total Petrol station opposite that Mobil and take an extra calculating device to the MRS station on 22 road inside Festac. The results would be nothing short of jail time!!

95% of filling stations in Lagos are into this sharp practice. Why hasn't the DPR called them to order all this while? It is evidently clear that they are trying to impress the incorruptible Buhari so he won't fire their boss. Buhari alone cannot fight corruption. Most Nigerians are corrupt. It is in our DNA. Public officials are the custodians of corruption in Nigeria
