So I tried to give up. At age 10, I tried to drown myself in 6 inches, or 15 centimeters of water, in my home. I told my dad I just wanted to relax, but really, I wanted to end my life. I had enough. That picture is as a result of the blockade Awolowo instructed on all eastern nigerian bound goods and food. He refused any shipment to be taken to the eastern part of the country against all international rules of engagement. He even ordered that schools and hospitals be bombed. Churches and market places were not exempted. It was all in contravention to the international rules of engagement in warfare. How can we forget this! This union called Nigeria should be re-negotiated!.

The Ibos started all these. They said they wanted to breakaway & instead of breaking away, they were coming to Lagos. To the Yorubas they were not trying to break away but trying to rule Nigeria. So, they joined the army. Bcos if Ojukwu should step in the west, many Yoruba life would be lost. So they had to keep the Biafrans from coming to Lagos by all means possible. That reminds me, I met a Swiss national in Kaduna in the 80's, and during our discussion, he told me that the Ibo's don't have a leader, I probed to know the source of his information, he told me that it was a book he read that said so. What I am trying to say is that the way things are going today, it seems the Igbo race failed to learn anything after the civil war that ravaged the South East, and set so many of us backwards, and to date the signs are still there for the unborn generations to see.

Well, Nigerian leaders, past and present, believe it's best to hide the ugly past in order to keep the country "one". To heal a wound it's, most times, necessary to expose it, examine and dress it for adequate healing.
As long as we continue to hide these aspects of our history, we shall continue to harbour mistrust and hatred.
I was not a witness to the war but I have vivid memories of stories, worse than what this picture portrays, of how many of my relatives died during and after the war in the hands of Nigerian soldiers, some in cold blood.
Perhaps the greatest number of atrocities were committed after Biafra surrendered. Children born from the wanton rape of our women now adults, still remind us of the horrors of the war.
Many of us have moved on however, we should not pretend that these things did not happen. They did.

@Anon 6:04pm, what the crap are you blabbing? Why does it disturb you to stare the reality of Nigeria's history in the face? Are you one of those who think that sweeping the realities of the Biafran war under the carpet will make it disappear? Obviously Nigeria remains a divided country cos the issues that led to the war have never been addressed neither the aftermath. Just take a look at the voting map of last weekend. Enough said. Pls leave Linda and her blog alone & stop insinuating nonsense just because you can't help trembling anytime the word Biafran is mentioned.

That is why we dont grow in this country ... History is very important to any nation or group of people .. for instance the suffering the jews underwent during the nazi era is still remembered till today ... So why should biafra be an exception ... We dont bury the past .. we learn from it ... Linda i salute ur courage .. other tribes may hold no relevance to the civil war .. but an average ibo will always have that history in thier minds . You cant errase it rather it can be addressed

Ibos are the funniest beings in the world. You blame awolowo for restricting food and other goods from reaching the East (Biafra) during the war. Who gives his opponent food during war? I am not saying I support war, but from a sensible point of view, no one gives an opponent aids to defeat him in a battle. Starvation was one strong factor in defeating the Biafrans, and so they did.

Remember not the former things neither consider the things old. God will new things. He is already doing so. We only need to learn form the past and looks forward to a brighter future. Weeping may endure fior the night but joy comes in the morning. It is well with Nigeria. Igbo kwenu. Nigeria Kwenu
