Lagos State Govt donates N50million to First Consultant Hospital

As measures to cushion the economic effect the Ebola crisis had on the First Consultant Hospital and those who suffered from the deadly Ebola virus disease, the Lagos state government announced yesterday October 20th that it will be giving out N50million to the hospital as a business support gesture and also extend support to all those, dead or alive who suffered from the deadly disease.

Announcing this yesterda while briefing newsmen at the state secretariat in Alausa, the state commissioner for health, Dr Jide Idris said the gesture is not in any way a compensation for all they lost during the crisis but it is a goodwill token from the state government to get back their economic livelihood
"Having addressed the human angle in containing the outbreak, there is now the need to address the economic consequences. Under consideration are the following: Support to the affected persons including those alive and N50million lump sum as business support gesture to the First Consultant Medical Centre. This is with view to getting the people/businesses back on their feet and for businesses to re-secure patronage of their customers. It needs clearly be stated that this is not an attempt at compensation but a gesture of goodwill on the part of government.” he said

A most commendable gesture on the part of LASG. However, the should please to a step further by honouring the name of Late Dr Adedevoh, as well as the 3 other health workers who lost their lives at First Consultants.

Well done BRF!

Inasmuch as I commend all Fashola is doing, I really can't give him much praises as he's totally ignored our roads in ikorodu. For christs sake, I fell inside water yesterday while trying to cross to the other side of the road. It wasn't funny at all. We are paying tax for Christ's sake, if they won't use the tax to give us light, they can as well use it to work our roads

Well done BRF!

A big thank you to lagos state govt. I know the first consultant hospital lost both human& material resousces wch money cant buy but at least it will go a long way. I also wish such gesture be extended to d families of those who lost their lives in d process. God bless lagos state govt& I call on federal govt to do same or more

The Hospital along with its incredible staff proved they indeed care about the lives of people. This brings me to the case of the Liberian man who fled to the States after being denied treatment for his family member. That hospital has single handedly helped the spread of Ebola. So we must praise our government in all they have done so far & thank the health workers who put their lives at risk daily.

Oh God make this man our president and pls when he becomes president, don't let the pressure of corruption destroy his vision. Amen

Anonymous said...

Really, are u serious, you obviously do not understand the ripple effect this could have had on Nigeria or the world @ large if ebola had not been contained in this hospital. Not to talk of the sacrifice they had to make.

Anonymous said...

Guy are u for real wit dis ur comment?! D way lagos state and dis hospital handled d case ensured dt it did nt spread beyond d 8 people including d sawyer bioterrorist. U shd take a trip to oda affected countries so u can b grateful. I wish I cud wish u ebola, but I can't bcos u wudnt know dt u shd contain it and nt spread it. Jealous mofo.

Really nice gesture.

Nice move Fashola.. thank God the virus was contained...and am sure d virus emanating in lagos where the Governor is not sleeping also helped in containing the virus.

Honestly, I am so surprised that everyone commenting here seem to support the Lagos State Govt. Sincerely I don't.
What is the reason for giving them this grant? Because it is Ebola?
How about so many other issues affecting "common" Lagosians?

Very good one @ fashola

Seconded!

Same here, but unfortunately, he can't. I hope we can make him our president someday.

Anonymous said...

Sorry, Joy. Try and contact your Lagos State House of Assembly member. Encourage the landlords association and your neighbors to do the same. That's how democracy is meant to work.

Anonymous said...

This is a unique case, and the hospital staff were very professional, and ultimately helped the whole country avoid a tragedy. My thoughts are with the family of the dead.

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Mr Fashola. May God keep you from harm. And may you become my president someday soon.
