Akolade appeared before trial judge Justice Lateefat Okunnu of the Ikeja High Court this morning Friday Feb. 21 and was found guilty on one-count of murder. The judge said the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that he killed his wife.
"I pronounce the defendant guilty and accordingly sentenced to death,” Justice Okunnu pronounced. Akolade burst into tears after the verdict was read.
Akolade and Titilayo had been married for only two years and had a young daughter when he brutally attacked her with a knife on his birthday after they argued. Arolowo claimed in court that Titi had attacked him with the knife and eventually turned the knife on herself. The court didn't buy his story.

Sometimes I wonder at the reaction of people to glaring injustice. When u do the crime u pay for it. What reform are we talking about here? To feed a man with taxpayers money till he dies as " compensation" for killing his wife so that other murders under whatever guise will continue to kill? My secondary school friends Dad strangled his wife and committed suicide when he was arrested. Today they've put that all behind them and are living a good life. The little girl will be fine trust me. Being an orphan is not a death sentence. I would rather be one than have a murderous father who can't even take care of me because he is serving a life "sentence" . That is a psychological burden. Both men and women need to think through their actions before carrying them out. That murder was not the first assault it was a process that culminated in the end of a promising life. People should learn to control their anger and not let it lead them to do things that they would regret. Women should be able to read the red flag signs and know when to step aside. Nigerian legal system need serious overhauling.I am not against death penalty, but due process must be followed. I have not seen any evidence to confirm a motive of the killing. No toxicology report. It is not impossible that people lose sense of rational thinking and under the influence of mind altering substance may exhibit self-injurious behavior disturbance. This can apply to both parties.
