If they do this, won't Ogun, Obatala, Sango worshippers etc also clamour for the introduction of their own studies? Should traditional studies be introduced in schools? Please share your thoughts.
But think about it, reading incantations could actually be fun!...or not! :-)

This is saddening. I'm not suprised at him, he's building two abbatoirs worth 2Billion naira in Osun State. This man is an insane graduate.....
He's very stupid!lol,any1 dat wants 2learn ifa knows where 2go 2learn it.hisssss
That means no one go dey fight physical again o, na 2 dey do spiritual tin o . Funny Governor sha . @ dis period wey eye don open. Like it d nxt tin 2 do .we are talking unemployment he dey talk madness. Shiooooooo
This is absurd!!!
Its depends on wat ur believe in.......bt its weird
That makes all those students potential herbalists!
Weirdo!
Pls visit www.ebukahnzeji.blogspot.com for for the latest crazy news...
Isn't Ogun, Obatala, Sango all in the category of IFA?
Isn't this already covered in Yoruba Studies?
It is not a bad idea. But it should not be made compulsory for students not willing to take it.
There are better things d students should be exposed to in this global age. He shud stop localizing ogun education!
maybe, maybe not!!! They seem to be pretty calm gods & religion.
Ifa is the mother of all traditional religion. None of dese deities u just mentioned didn't study Ifa. It's a matter of compulsion if u want to be a successful Ifa priest. It's good, and I like the idea. I'm Christian but its high time we embraced what is ours.
Sounds interesting....I think they shld but damn dis cld make student fetish
Aregbe is disillusioned....I tink Sometin is wrong wit his head....I even heard he's planin 2 make all d student b wearin KamPala now.....Watz Wrong wit him
linda it is now very obvious you do nt sleep...hmnn
I support it. I wish Naija had more traditional studies, this is our history
I support it. It can go under history or traditional studies.
NYC-1 says: He could as well introduce the study of Vampires. His contemporaries are sponsoring projects to the Moon and Mars, he is here talking of Ifa. Its a pity Niaja is still being ruled by 'yesterdays men.' I wish TB Joshua will call him to order and tell him that, that is not part of the nonsense prediction for 2013.
How can he do that? This is d kind of thing Linda will like, chanting incantation. I doubt if u believe God. Aje buruku. if u like don't post my comment. Nonsense Antichrist girl.
there should be just one class - religious studies and everyone should be given a breakdown of different religions - their history etc
I think our universities have more important problems than the introduction of the study of Ifa. Aregbesola should please concentrate on important things
Why stop there ... He can also introduce Hinduism and any other religion that tickles their fancy. What a pity other nations are looking for ways to prevent climate change and make hunger a thing of the past , our Govt. is on a different page!!!
Hi LIB Fabs, do remember to check out my blog for your daily spiritual upliftment...it's not a religious blog, but a Christian blog to keep us going, esp if you spend a lot of time on the web. Start this yr with God's Word. (www.thebanquethall.blogspot.com)
I wish Linda wld add me on her blog list but I will keep asking...I hope she will even post my comment.
Babe, I know it's ur blog but you get hundreds of hit daily...all I wanna do is share the Word with whoever cares. Thank you & God bless y'all. Make it a great day.
nice one, Ifa Studies ~ what is Okanran meji?
This is not useful in the educational system, which already contains a lot that isn't useful to a student in a particular field
I am surprised this idea is not coming from the Igbo people, who as it stands have completely lost their roots. Being Igbo myself, I fear a time will come when the Igbo language and culture will be completely forgotten and believe me that time isn't that far. It's common place to see Igbo people who know nothing about their language, talk more of their culture. The introduction of traditional studies should help to ameliorate all this lapses. Should Osun state be allowed to add traditional studies to their curriculum? Heavens yeah!! Our culture is who we are, not who we used to be. Even Americans study American history from kindergarten.
Anoda leader without insight and focus. how is Ifa studies goin 2 improve the deteriorating education system in the state. mschew
I don't think it's a bad idea. I think its hight time we change our curriculum to suit our own culture and history. studying Ifa does not make us fettish and if I must say believe it or not as old as these religions are even the so called elite still visit the ifa preist for consultation on a daily basis. An averge Nigerian has at least 2 religion. They could be a muslim, but will still have one pastor or ifa priest they consult same as christians. So who's fooling who? Even Ifa is studied in foreign universities under African languages, african studies etc. Professor Wande Abimbola is one proud professor who's has done that in so many universtities accross the world. Its our culture, Our background and we are the ones who can promote it. Are we not ashamed that our kids cannot speak our our local languages. They don't even knw who sango, olodumare, oya and all the gods are. I was thought in school, we were all thought in school, I don't think that has made us fetish.
pretty good { ifa olokun asoro dayo }
na sango go fire im head. bastard!
You are an idiot for your comment. Why do Nigerians like chatting shit?
It's gonna be fun...just some sharabaturara kuru and that mean teacher will start dancing makossa in the class.
ok.. i dont agree with this.. i served in that state nd there are children in ss2 that don't know how to spell beyond a-g.. they speak yoruba in schools so much that d kids cant speak english.. corpers end up having to teach in yoruba . imagine those corpers who dont understand or speak yoruba..so much difficulty.. there are more critical issues than issue of tradition... yes some people are passionate about culture and all but this is too much...it can be a topic that will be thought on the surface and not indepthly studied to the level of incantations.. that's rubbish..
I agree, it is our culture.
The only thing is I think it should be administered purely as academics and not as a faith. I dunno about incantations.
To all saying no, this is why you're all so ignorant and lost.
na wa ohhhh. is this a tactic of indoctrinating kids into the occult cos i know these osun state politicians they are very diabolical.. infact that stateis the centre of diabolical...
which computer????? i have been there ... there are no computers at all...
ogun, oya, osun, obatala are all part of IFA. There are choices, you can either take CRK, IRK or IFA, I don't see what the problem is here. CRK and IRK are not even indigenous religions, so why not have our own indigenous religion included in the curriculum? After-all, we gladly accepted the foreign religions.
So, it will make students fetish, seriously? are you saying there are no fetish Christians or Muslims? Did they become fetish by studying CRK/IRK in school? And I don't mean fetish in the context of going to herbalist but right there in some churches and mosques.

Pple implying its a fetish idea r funny sha!let me tell u,dr r a lot of morals dt can b learnt 4m ifa verses.upon all ur church going isn't morals going downhill in nigeria?!maybe ds cld make some difference.
and wats so wrong with building abbatoirs? car factories for d pple of osun? u say fashola is elitist in lagos, i gues a governor can do no rite. or is it d 2billion dat is biting u? ur vp house na how much??
i tire for linda and her uninformed assertions
i tire for linda and her uninformed assertions

LINDA CHECK YOUR SOURCE THIS NEWS IS NOT TRUE.
HE IS NOT INTRODUCING IFA BUT PROCURING IS IT IPAD NOT SURE WITH IFA APP.
Let's All be realistic For God's sake, this is what Tradition is Meant to b so as nt to let dis practice die of, Studyin ifa is pretty diffrnt from Worshippin it.
Linda you have lot of ignorants on your blog.Ifa is a course in Brazil and many european Countries. Some Elements here don't even know Ogbeni and his ability. I can bet it none of these Governors in nigeria has a better idea of how to govern his people like him. What some of the Elements here called old either are actually things will need to develop, the western world send their dommy to us to mould our minds towards what they want us to be. Ifa is not a religion but is refered to as "the command of ElEDUMARE" and it tells you things that ordinarily you can't see or know tru the naked Eye. Obantala and other things you mentioned are representative of ELEDUMARE. No IFA priest will do anything wicked or unholy. This is one of the ways Ogbeni is using to correct the ills in the society. Calling OSun sons and dauthers OMOluabi has help his government in a graet deal, his calistechnics for school is something else and you can mention many ways like that..FYI, am not from OSun bt as a Yoruba man, am highly proud of this Man, Ogbeninthe AWO of our time
Good proposition.. Will advise the Gov incorporate it in Yoruba Studies and should not be made compulsory to the students. Odua a gbe wa oo...
When the rest of the world is advancing in technology, going to the moon, creating functional hands and limbs, transferring organs and making life easier, this idot wants to take us back to the stone ages......Yet when he or his family are sick they fly business class to Europe,Asia or North America for treatment.....
God please attend to our ignorance otherwise it may turn to an epidemic.
God bless u Hilary Obiorah. U've jst spoken frm my mouth
This guy has got some misplaced piorities, n he needs to change his advisers, , he should plz take things one step at a time, in my school, the major courses don't even have teachers to take them,no literature, computer, futhermaths, techincal drawing teachers, some of this courses had to be introduced thanks to corpers now he wants to introduce the study of ifa, when existing courses are not even funtioning well, as for the computer tablets he is planning to share, I would say its the right move coming at the wrong time, in the school I teach the students don't even av chairs to sit on, all the chairs in the classes were made by the students themselves, while the ones that can't afford it squot or sit by the windows, the students speak yoruba 100 persent of the time, even some of the teachers have to teach in yoruba, most of them cant even construct good english, they can't write down notes that are dictated, the spell like illiterates, and they expect the govt to provide everything for them even biros, all because of the free education that is killing them gradually, osun states schools are not ready for the computer tablet, the students are far behind in I.Q, some of the buildings in my school were built with mud, that is a school located in the state capital o, not to talk other LG, the whole ifa, n computer tablet is just a way for people to embezzle money and the governor to feel he has done sumthing tangible to the state.
God bless u Hilary Obiorah, u've just spoken frm my mouth, 90% of the people reading this topic doesn't seem to understand it.
Nigerians are just too brain-washed! What is worng with studying Ifa? People should read for God's sake. Google all there is about Ifa and refrain from being lazy. Studying Ifa doesn't mean you'd change your religion! We are just too lazy as a people. Why not research the Ifa thing before attacking the Governor???
he is sick in his head
he is sick in his head
abeg abeg abeg, make person no go use incantation collect person brain for school.long hiss.
Sophistication and civilisation has passed that stage pls, what area would students put that into use? Its surely a no no!! Not necessary!
How learning about your culture constitutes something bad is beyond me. I want to know more about these dieties, not worship them. Understand what he's introducing to the curriculum before crucifying the man's plan. Nigerians and their silly desire to embrace all things oyinbo. Oyinbo man has taught you that your culture is worthless and you thank him for it. There isn't a "Christian" argument in this situation, just ignorance.
Y dis bros dey fumble...shey na part of 9ja improvement b dis?
People study CRK and IRK, he shld have just said Yoruba tradition, makes more sense, Ifa is just one of Yoruba deities- getting back to our roots is not a bad idea.People study Yoruba in University and that does not make them fetish, we've been brainwashEd by European culture that everything that's ours is barbaric
Studying Ifa doesn't really mean they are gonna end up as ifa priests. I think its good though, taking em back to their roots, we really need to know more about our culture and heritage, after all we have egyptologists in Egypt.
He go make sense oh, he go just be like harry potter
GODKNOWS,
WAS HE SWORN IN WITH IFA,
OGUN, OBATALA? IF NOT
PLS. LET YEMI ELEBUIBON GATHER
CUTLASS, AXE, KNIFE FOR A NEW
CEREMONY.
RSVP ... TINUBU, AKANDE, ACN(Asiwaju Company of Nigeria).
Lolol wetin linda sabi?
Yeye christian!I no ur type!
in fact , i vote for ifa as a subject in our secondary school ,in the scene that is willingly subject every body have to choose form the religious we have in Nigeria.by this there will be a respect for our norms and value in our society.and it going to reduce the fraudulent act, mismanagement ,of our generation
You are the antichrist here. How can you be so silly to abuse Linda? She asked for our opinion on the issue, you are here blabbing. Idiot!
I am amazed at the myopic minds of the readers of this blog! Oh, so when it comes to studying Venus, Zeus and other greek gods you have no issues doing that?! when will we learn to appreciate our own and keep our tradition fresh in the minds of the future generation?! Im really saddened by the ignorance of most of you against this! Who says studying means worshipping?! Even you sef Linda! Understand the motive before you start to incite people. I am ibo and really would like my kids to learn the tradition of our land - If it means having an idea of the gods that exist(ed). No one says they will worship them! YOU GUYS SHOULD GROW UP! Why are you so quick to embrace the culture of others and neglect your own?! SMH
What is ifa
GOD BLESS YOU HILARY OBIORAH!!!
IT SHOULD SIMPLY BE UNDER "HISTORY"...
Where is BONARIO 3310?
Where is BONARIO 3310?
Actually ifa covers the whole yoruba diety recitations, ts the advance stage pple chose wc to pick btwn the gods, besides ifa n opon ifa study is a course on ts own, one can get it in moral philosophy or philosophy n ethics. The popular actor peter fatomilola is a ifa expert in oau ife, so ts no biggie. I fink rauf is jst lookin for a stunt to sharialize osun state, enhance d indegenious relgion tingy
Long tym gurl!!..where hav u been?
Linda,wetin na..add ds blog 2 ur blog list..ds person has begged U long enuf!!..or is dere a secret test 2 b scaled b4 d blog becomes eligible?
It aint fair..how long will u b begged?
hmmmmmmmmm...this our nation and continent can only develop and move out of poverty when we learn to approach issues with open mind and objectivity.
its high time we go back to our tradition and culture and just stop adopting what the whites tells us is right and wrong.
thumbs up Linda.
kudos to him, Osun is the cradle of the the yoruba race and also african religion. it is a good idea, afterall, IRK AND CRS are studied in schools. preferably, ARK, african religious knowledge is better that will include, IFA, SANGO, OGUN, OLOKUN, OBANTALA, ESU
Its not a bad idea, I know the Gov is not byy anyway fetish, he is probably trying to introduce the studebts to their roots, this should be optional anyway!!!
thank you jare Hilary, please tell them. our culture is who we are, studying ifa doesn't make you an ifa priest its just the study of who we trully are.
There was a day i came accross a book used by my cousin in secondary school (Babington Machauly Ikorodu, a Baptist Secondary Schoo)it has to do with the study of ifa Odu Merindilogun. I took interest cos i never had the opportunity of learning that in the public school i went to. Hypocrite should stop the nonsense that he wants to turn the students to herbalist, our culture is who we are and the Oyinbos are coming here to learn from it.
Has the CRK and IRK you learnt in school turn u to an Immam or a pastor?
Amoke.
If it was in Anambra, Enugu, Abia or one of those Ibo states...then we can shout. But please Linda, is this not OSUN state...OSUN State...OSUN State!!! Please dont interfere.....its not bad! Its fun and doesnt mean you will start worshipping Ifa!
People get taught about IRK and CRK yet they are still out there doing nonsense!
Naija una too much, i sip my coffee jeje
May AMADIOHA bend ur left eye... Pls fool don't bring christianity into this... That's how u fools spoil our name, am a christian but... But ur head
i am 101 in support of the idea, it is high time we stop the charade and be ourselves. . it's amazing how foreigner take our culture more serious than we do. let us go back to traditions. Isese lagba.
That's what happens when a person in power ( mr aragbe for short) watches merlin , harry potter etc. Although I like the idea. Seriously we are fast losing our cultures. Look. I took courses in herbal medicine and practices as an undergrad, that hasn't changed me one bit
And corpers like us who are serving in Osun wil b givin dis kind of subject 2 teach.
Altho I dnt see it as fun,buh if dey cud introduce budhism n othr religions in othr parts of d world, ifa is nt bad,as far its nt made compulsory.
Lol!@ wearing kampala.. Kampala ko, lace ni
Y not be patient my person and wait for ur children to go sturdy ifa first so u can ask them but my understanding it means STAND STILL... So imagine u try to flog or correct ur little girl and she says daddy Okanran meji. Or I come to ur house to nack ur wife and u try to protest and I simple say Okanran meji and u will just stay there and watch me so if I were u I find the reverse now... Hope I helped... Pls don't mention
When oyinbos come into our country claiming to be Phd holders of our traditional religion we usually appreciate them. Plz lets all stop being myopic and hypocrites. Its a welcome development. Are u a pastor or an expert in Christianity cos u studied CRS in school? Carry go Aregbesola.
Stewpid man... Educated illiterated..
Funniest Story I've seen in ages.
Apart from the funny part though, thinking logically, I think we need our traditional religion studied in schools,
Afterall there is Bible Knowledge and Islamic Religious knowledge.
Anyway, see beautiful jewellery at https://facebook.com/fabrevd
Dis just shows dat dis guy is lacking sense talk less of common sense. Is that d most pressing issue to tackle in dat state now. People r suffering in my state. No good roads nor water in the other parts of the state. People have no jobs n no constant electricity. Dis man with goaty is thinking of ifa studies in dis day n age of civilization. Its so sad. He is majoring in d minors n minoring in d majors. I think dis shld teach my people not to vote him in d 2nd term. He is such an a..
You make so much sense unlike a lot of people here that lack common sense.
Shuttap!!!!
Just wondering what the curriculum will contain. I guess stuffs like. How to prepare magoon. How to fly abroad without visa, passport or plain tickets. How to winch Bad belle people.
I'm really not suprised, he even looks like an Ifa priest.
Whatever the study will entail, which I don't know, but if it has to do with teaching the younger generation the history and culture of the yoruba pple, then it should be welcomed!
Cos we are loosing our culture, tradition and language too fast to the western ideologies and lifestyle.
westernisation'has entered so deep dat some pple are not proud of speaking their mother tongue.
Dats one thing I still like SA for, they promote their culture a lot......enuf said!
U are not a christian!! Stopr deceiving urslf!
I AM IN COMPLETE SUPPORT OF THIS INNOVATION BECAUSE LATELY THE WORLD IS TURNING UPSIDE DOWN WHERE WE SEE MEN OF GOD USING THE BIBLE TO CONDOLE AN ACT OF FALSE PRETENSE, WHO BORN YOU TO LIE IN THE NAME OF IFA OR SANGO IF IT WON'T STRIKE YOU DOWN ? THIS IS OUR CULTURE, ASHA WA NI IT IS HIGHLY WELCOME OJARE I WILL EVEN SUPPORT IT IF THEY INTRODUCE IT TO THE SWEARING OF OUR LEADERS FOR OATH TAKING .... AM OUT
IMO, this is a nice move, we are loosing our language and cultural values everyday...Until we take our culture and language seriously.... . And more so IFA is well known all over the world and I know people that are gainfully employed with IFA studies, even Europeans and Americans...
this man is tryin 2 take his ppl a thousand steps backward
A lot of people don't know that IFA is well known all over the world.
And I know Aregbesola is a devoted Muslim: I see a lot of potential in this move. At least our culture and language will not deplete at an alarming rate...
Ifa is not a god...it's like the way/channel to seek the all them small gods so there won't be any beef....and as someone commented Ifa, the all yoruba gods and religion studies are already fully covered in regular Yoruba studies classes even at starting primary school level...this is just another misdirected energy from our politicians that don't no how to prioritize.
Lol its funny!, but its not a must it should b a subject, they can just print books on it 4 pple interested 2 buy
I don't understand Nigerians at all. You'd rather be taught Islam and Christianity that have ripped this country apart (and Africa) than to be taught the beliefs of your forefathers. I'm sure 70% of you don't even know what Ifa is about. Everything in this country was demonised by your colonial fathers.
The teaching of Ifa is not meant to CHANGE your beliefs. It's like any other religious studies class or in fact a HISTORY lesson where you are taught the beliefs, values and traditions of OTHERS. You have to be able to tolerate the fact that others cannot believe in the same thing as you. Christianity even accepts this...you love people regardless of their beliefs.
That's why I don't understand homophobia in Nigeria. Not everybody is a Christian or a Muslim. This is NOT a Muslim or Christian country either. Your forefathers were not Christians or Muslims. I think this country would be much better off going back to the traditionalism. At least you will find some value there other than Brazilian weave, sugar daddies and pay roll.
It is sad. I want to live in Nigeria but when I see these comments sometimes...I wonder what's the point. I see what my parents are running away from. You want to fit in, in the country you are supposed to from. But Nigeria is not even Nigeria...it's full of a lot of people who have a complex. You don't want to be Nigerians you want to be everybody else but yourselves.
V
i'm a muslim bt sincerely i fink it's high time we start learnin' what's really ours'.Having an academically-inclined knowledge on IFA is no big deal to me #my-view#..For instance, am a typical yoruba boi dt's ignorant about the yoruba heritage*Ashame*
i want to believe the "ifa studies" will not extend to divination.
There is a special aspect of ifa referred to as "Omoluabi" A.K.A. " The Good Person".
Teaching the student "how to be an omoluabi will not be bad at all. omoluabi cares for everyone around him/her.
Our churches and mosques have failed teaching us how to be our brothers keeper maybe ifa can come to the rescue.
Its very good and okay .
shocking some of the comments here. Nigerians are so infatuated about being global and learning about indoctrinating themselves with western culture that they do not even appreciate what is theirs. Nigerian history in its pure form is no longer in our school curriculum, instead we have something called Social Studies. Go out and ask an 11year old who Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe is or Chief Awolowo or Chief Ozoumba Mbadiwe and Sir Tafawa Balewa are, and you will get a blank stare. Now a Governor has decided to revive knowledge in local culture and tradition and he is being derided.
I am very Christian but of mixed ethnic birth. I am happy that my father talked to me about Ifa and my maternal grandmother spoke to me about igbo traditions and deities. If we like, we can all kill all aspects of our culture and in a few years our grandchildren will only have english and santa claus as beacons of their lineage.
Abi ooo M̶̲̥̅̊Y̶̲̥̅̊ ϑε̲ãr Chikaka......i tire ooo! Ignoramus mucheche.....see his face â„“i̶̲̥̅ke anoda specie ☀̤̣̈̇F Ape! Anuofia!!!!!
Whilst this might portend to preserve cultural attributes of Osun state, I however beg to differ with the sensationalization it has been accorded by the governor who's governance policies and ideas are becoming moribund.
The governor should face more serious issues of empowering the citizenry to be self-sufficient through introduction of policies that'll cut red tape, create employment, empower farmers, improve quality of education, etc.
Linda please its not everyone that is yoruba, some of us don't know what ifa means. Please help out so it will be clearer when we read some news from your blog. Thanks
D Gov is loosing grip of proper governance. There are other developmental projects dt he can embark on. Already yoruba lang is being taught in secondary schs n dt he can make a compulsory subject for his Osun state students. Ifa, oya, sango n other deities are being mentioned in yoruba lang study, though sparingly.
We are in a jet stage n globalization has come to stay, d vehicle of progress waits 4 nobody. Gov ogbeni please wake up n invest in education proper n nt d study of one particular deity dt shd actually b studied by research students in d University.....mscheww
He's just a moron
drs nothing bad in dis nw.....its d yoruba heritage...........
What is IFA? Rhipple Media
I have nearly no reservations for this novel, interesting and informative decision of the Osun State Government. Sentiments aside, we sudy Islam and Christianity in our various institutions but have no complaints on these! Hinduism etc are not a part of our "regular" religious biases in Nigeria but Ifa is!
It will certainly be very educative to the younger generations and broaden their knowledge of traditional religious settings native to the various ethnicities in Nigeria.
My candid opinion... No strings attached (wink)!!!
Harry Potter and the ifa priest.
Ifa is a book like Bible or Quran if you don't know please. It is given to Orunmila by Olodumare T̶̲̥̅̊h̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ same way Quran is for muslims and Bible for Christians. T̶̲̥̅̊h̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ story of all Orisas are contained in it including Ogun, Osun, Obatala etc. T̶̲̥̅̊h̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ story of how God created T̶̲̥̅̊h̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ world is in it too according to Yoruba believe. Not according to Jews or Arabs in Bible or Quran. If you are christian, you are not forced to take T̶̲̥̅̊h̶̲̥̅̊e̶̲̥̅̊ course. I am disappointed in most young Nigerians who kick against this idea. Anyone who condemns this idea is shallow in knowledge without an intention to hurt or insults anyone. Anyone who cares to know will know that not less than 10, 000, 000 people practice Yoruba religion world over and it is one of the 6 top religions of the world. Africans are condemned by colonial masters to study only Bible and jihadists force us to study Quran. We as people have this heritage given to us by God Olodumare when he was giving the Arabs and Jews Bible and Quran. God loves us the way He loves Arabs and Jews, why won't we appreciate our own. To hell with English language, this is true freedom. Do you know how Chinese preserve their language despite they can speak English? Let us develop our own and be world power. Yorubas are the light of Black Race http://www.godpaths.com/yoruba-religion.html
Harry Potter and the ifa priest.
Hmmm, this guy nah juju personified. Both him and Bola Tinubu. They no take am play. So therefore, i am not surprised
its a very good idea . This would re-introduce sanity into the community . If you know the rules of engagement, you don't want to mess up o. if all politicians embrace ifa , NIGERIA WOULD BE CORRUPT FREE. The only reason why we still see them arround is because Jesus forgives. Ifa Olokun Asoro Dayo

I saw the heading to this post and I thought, hmmn, this shudda been, "who's not in support...". What's more surprising is the number of shallow, ignorant minds/comments to the post.
Few things I'm gonna point out
1. Studying CRS/IRS in Sec. schools doesn't make any student a pastor or imam, neither does it make em speak in tongues or understand Arabic. Why then the highlight of 'incantations/juju'???
2. Educate yourselves on how far and wide the Ifa 'tradition' has travelled. If the UN has approved it as a Religion and people from other continents study/worship Ifa, why not Nigerians?
3. Do yourself a favour, search up 'Ifa Religion' on google and read!
Lolz no be small thingoo!
~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA3310
U have no idea wat it means to b christian, I can confidently say u r not..Simply put, u r Really lost
I believe its a good idea if channelled 2 d right purpose. Even Europeans come here 2 study our own cultures & language S̶̲̥̅Æ why can't we study it. Btw, it is predicted dat d yoruba race would loose its culture & history by 2050 & we r already seeing signs. Many ignorant LIB readers r commenting rubbish but will later go & start learning western cultures & condemning ours! Foolish hypocrites!!!
The man is absolute insane, how can he even think about it.
Ogun, obatala n sango are men who lived on earth, they were ifa worshippers too, so I dunno wat linda is sayin, and for historical n cultural sake this is commendable, and ifa is full of moral stories n proverbs not incanctations like u sed, we r sha doin IRK n CRK in skol
It is our hitory and our culture. We must treasure it. I fully support this!!!
ha! that means someone can save ur bb pic, copy and paste the incantation below and press the 'send' button. remote control don begin work.

Ogbeni Rauf is the most controversial Gov in Nigeria. This is the same man that has introduced a Public Holiday on Hijra (Islamic New Year) in his State, even when we have so many holidays in Nigeria.
Ogbeni also operated alone for more than a year without Commissioners. He's now introducing Ifa studies. What a strange policy!
ha! that means someone can save ur bb pic, copy and paste the incantation below and press the 'send' button. remote control don begin work.
every electronic device jazz, back to sender!
Good, i'm in support bt Ogun, Obatala, Sango etc would be sub topics BUT the disadvantage of it would result in students testing their power and incantation on fellow innocent student
no na Okijantology (the study of okija shirine) Ogbeni i hail thee!..... Rubish gov wey no get work. Him and his kids will be the curriculum developer, the author and publisher of IFAmystery. Mac

if African wont just be decieving theirselves, there is always a gud side to all tradition and history of any race. i dont see anytin wroung with what the governor is doing with the heritage of his type.
Going spiritual is not for Ifa etc alone.
what will the course outline look like? and course tittle i.e Ifa101,ifa 205,, that man need to check into a mental hospital!!this is 21st century Mr. Governor, please who will even pay that huge school fee just to study ifa? like serious Osun people ekpele o.... laughing in yoruba*
It unfortunate a lot of comments here smacks off ignorance and shallow thoughts. Ifa is introduced and so what? How many of the people here can write a page on their ancestry and roots? You just exist without any sense of history or purpose and someone is talking about going to the moon...na wa. Many of you here are hypocrites. Feigning being Christians in the day only for you to return to herbalists and Magicians at dusk. Why begin to rain invective on a man who had done nothing to deserve it? Your turn go come soon.
Wow d gov is just wow. Bt we av a lot of tins failing ur in naija, den we want 2 send our kids 2 skul 2 become priests or wat.no wonder Miss Osun tinks she is a celeb. Madness in higher places
Bt wait 1st,shey dis man never mad ni
Great idea,I wanted 2 b a lawyer bt since d system fucked me,I wld just b an Ifa priest.
U r d most illiterate lib reader I hav ever met!
Osun osogbo. Ndi mmamiri manta. Biko gov, abeg find job gv me
We exhibit a lot of ignorance in our comments. Studying our tradition is re-inventing ourselves. It is nothing fetish. It is nothing backward. It doesn't stop us from advancing as a people. We should not lose our heritage under this so called mordenism and westernisation
Na... I dont tink this is necessary, whatever u say, the English man has brought us to where we are today, deir studying Ifa will just increase evil practices.... Yes, if u like hug transformer with ds comment, ...lol, but really, less is more...the rivalry between christians and muslims isnt enuf for them. They cant make it compulsory. Its better he sets up an IFA studies Academy, let those that want dier wards there, take dem dere!...
lol omg we are loosing it in dis country oooo ha ha ifa bawo lol
I must admit that I have little or no reservations for this rather "novel", interesting and informative decision by the Osun State Government. Hinduism and similar religions are not among the prominent religious biases of a sizeable number of citizens of this country but the worship of Ifa is!
This would provide an invaluable opportunity for the younger generations to know more about the indigenous traditional religious practices. Besides, Islam and Christianity are widely studied in various institutions in this country and almost no dust is raised by anyone!
Some Nigerians are so hypocritical and myopic in their presentation of issues even to sickening levels! They would pay a fortune to watch the Vampires, Elves, Warewolves and other similarly well-branded display of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Ogbeni, carry go joor! My humble thoughts...
Abeg linda reduce d comment 2 abt 200words. My eyes don dey pain.
U call urself a Christian?? Going to church every Sunday (that's if u know what that means) doesn't make you one. From your comment, its obvious you have no clue what Christianity is about.
one word nansense
Typical ignoramus. Chasing smoke while the fire burns. You leave the Governor trying to introduce it and attack Linda who brought it to people's attention. Don't let ur bad belle eat u raw cos its seems u have serious beef which didn't even let u read right.
If this development comes from the western countries, we'll appreciate it. I don't know what our problem is with embracing our own ideas. As long as it's not made compulsory for those who don't want it shikena!
Hmmm . . . Not a bad initiative but must not be imposed on all the students. I think the state government needs to orientate its people on this issue. You dont have to be a traditional worshipper before you can learn something about the tradition but this should be optional because religious issues could be sensitive
would this develop Nigeria, Africa...if NO am AGAINST...this
you guys should get a grip on yourselves. we are so behind in our thought and actions... what is wrong in learning ifa in school?
the stupid western religion that most of us are involved in are just human mechanisms to restrict the thinking and actions of a black man.
Christian my foot.
Tufiakwa!! You are not and can never be a Christian...there r no buts to being a Christian, its either u r one or u are not one and for u to support this then u are definitely not a Christian.
Hey Neks, happy new year hun.Was out of town but even then still visited lib, how're u keeping?
@3.28am i'm getting u,u're a christian...an ifa-compliant christian right? Hmmmm...anyway is a way
anon January 9, 2013 10:05 AM ask Google now. It's that easy. Ogbeni is an orisha as i heard.
Linda is very funny and unfortunately very ignorant, if islam and christianity are taught in Nigerian schools does it make sense that ANCESTRAL, TRADITIONAL and CULTURAL religions are not?
Nigerians have no sense of cultural pride where it matters, and its something that also hinders development.
The more we understand of our own and other Nigerian cultures and traditions, the more we will get along the more development can flourish.
Very soon, there will be job vacancies for "BABALAWO'S" all other states will include the studies of their gods. WATCHOUT!! How will this reduce the rate of unemployment. NONSENSE
Its a shame to read a lot of comments from people who are so shallow minded. Look I am so happy about this development. Until recently I never new some brazillians still practise yoruba religion, that's what they call it. it even spread to almost all south american countries and the carribeans. In argentina, mexico, uruguay nd paraguay they practise a religion called santeria. Its a mixture of christianity and yemoja. I was surprised to even see that they still bear yoruba names. It scared the shit ouuta me and to think they still speak yoruba too. But its not as smooth as the normal yoruba we speak here. I have so many of them as friends on fb. Just as muslims do their yearly trip to mecca, they always come to ile-ife and for the osun osogbo festival every year. I have pictures of them doing the ifa divinations just as we do it here. All the yorubas that changed their name by adding Oluwa(GOD) e.g oluwaseyi. The brazillians who traced their roots all have names starting wiv ifa, ogun, oya, and ESU. Contrary to what the yoruba bible teaches us, esu in ifa pantheology is not the Devil, he is among the gods but a very queer character. Because of his queer character ajayi crowther made esu-to mean devil in the yoruba bible which is not so. Linda I have pictures of them, so u can see for yourself. There is power in knowledge.
This one don dey before nah....... Just that they want to make it //////////Special??
Some many dumb comments here. This is a very welcome idea. This is our history our traditional. African traditional religion are studied in Harvard, why can’t we. We are beginning to loose our roots. I am living here abroad and i cannot even speak my own language because my parents thought it was best i learn and speak only English. Thank God i hung around warri people so my pidgin is fluent. Now my kids speak and understand pigin and that the only thing i can pass down to them. Preserver your culture, your traditional religion and your language. That is your only true identity
yoruba should forget all this noise about ifa ,if ifa and those who counsult the ifa were strong i dont think a white man from brazil will paddle his canoe to yoruba land and buy slaves went back to dump them in brazil still ifa sango oro all the yoruba idols did not act, after white people left usman danfodio still conquer yoruba land and kill all the sango whoshipers and convert yorubas to muslim ,why is it now they remember ifa again? ifa is nothing yorubas should for get ifa and move on with the world ifa got no power ,@seyi those who speaks yoruba words in brazil re the desendants of slaves ,why they can still speak some yoruba words is because portugues dump thier yoruba slaves in one place so they stay together unlike those slaves in america they were shared to all american states so there is no way they can speak thier mother tongue
I am not an Ifa worshipper, however, I think it is a reasonable idea to give students the exposure to their traditional religious background. It is up to them to choose if they'd like to practise it or not. Nigerians are quick to embrace overseas products (including religion) and ignore anything made here. In the West, where I reside, it doesn't matter what your religion is, everyone is bound by same law. Nigeria, strength the law and its enforcement, ignore religious bais, and move forward!
I have no degree in philosophy or theology, but, honestly if you study the root of religion superficially, it is not hard to see that every religion steams to enforce some ethics to make man subject to himself or some deity as 'god'. Education is the ration tool to empower every man to make his/her choice. Africa is damn too religious, sadly blindly.
I tnk Mr Aregbe must b crazy,If dat was d convenant u made 2 dos spiritualist dat bakc up ur mandate,u better find sometn else 2pay ur vow,or u want 2 create secretcult among secondary school student.
am showing this to ma dude, is gonna love it, he takes pleasure in such things. Thanks Linda for bringing this to notice
The man is a ritualist from every angle you lOok at him.
Legend has it that many years ago in ile-ife, things were not going on right, everything and everywhere was in disarray. The people were grumbling and all. Orunmila came to the town and saw how everything was, and told them to do some sacrifice. He left and came back after a while and still observed that things have not really changed, and he asked the people whether they"ve done what he asked them to do and they answered in the affirmative. Orunmila told them they didn't do a particular sacrifice, that if they did everything would have been better. And they asked what sacrifice is that, he told them olubobotiribo awo emu, awo emu ni won ko ko bo ni ile-ife. that whatever you say with you mouth for good shall come to pass. And after doing that everything came back to life in the town. even the bible says the power of life and death is in the tongue therefore i support the introduction of the subject. studying it doesn't mean practicing it, this just additional knowledge i rest my case.
I think its just the history n doctrine, just like crk n irs #maddingcrush
yes yes, highly intriguing!!!!
i agree joor. Sebi its part of our history and roots. carry on rauf. good idea so long as its academics and not religion.
Dose of u dat re Ncoraging d governor on dis madness,I pray dat God wud hv mercy on u ol!..hw can someone say dat d study of ifa is good?..yet u stil go 2 church & call ursef a Christian abi?..pls , choose d God u wil serve: Jehovah or sth else,nt both!

Elections have consequences... When we pick our elected officers... We have to be ready to live with the consequences...
This is defo a way forward! Not until Nigeria goes back to its indigenous religion, things will only get worse! mark this! all the islam and christianity, where has it taken Nigeria? its done only harm! open ur eyes people! most people's comments on here shows the ignorant and dumb level of the average Nigerian. SMH!
I bet most of u dat said it was a gud idea are not from Osun State, I'm from osun state, Ilesha to be precise and I knw hw Tinz go down dere. Fine it nice to knw about our culture but shuldnt dat just be a topic and whc is already is...... Wen I was in JSS1, I was tot D yoruba version of earth's creation, hw God sent 16 elders to D earth wit sand in a snail's shell wit Esu bein dere leader B4 he was drunk and Obatala took over...it's somtin we've been tot and isn't dat enough??. And u pple talking about white Kids studyn about dere own traditional religion...dose kids are different 4rm ours, kids dere ar curious to learn about somtin dat we benefit Dere community but our kids here............ a 15 years old Oyinbo kid wil be tinkn on hw to develop somtin gud like calculators, all diz toy games and stff but here, av seen a 15 year old kid avn crunch on 26 year old lady, of course he was scared to approach her so he had to use charm, we call it RING SEX( ORUKA AMUDO). In my area, 17,18 year old kids are riding xpensive cars, a frnd of mine is ridn range rover and porsche and we finished our second. Skul 2008 and him no be O.B.O. Tell me hw come? Rituals of course...even if na yahoo, u go still Do PARO.I'm not sayn dey wil teach Diz kids hw to do rituals ooh but studyn more about Ifa will gv dem courage and boldness to do fetish tinz, we all knw student ar alwayz curious, its just like D Bible and D quran dey teach us, We practice it, some teachers wil even ask us to take some as our memory verse and dats hw it gon be in Diz Ifa case. Why not Diz Man introduce somtin like computer studies, a lot of student after dere secondary skul wil just enroll for computer trainning, D real subjects ar yet to be well understood, in my skul, we av one Stove in D laboratory, no qaulified teacher, no chairs and most of D buildings Don collapsed. He nid to Tink from His Head and Not from His YANSH!.
I think 'Yoruba History Studies' would add more value to students and the culture at large, than the Ifa studies.
Its a shame linda always judge write even before peoples comment
Ifa is an extra curricular subject on the computer tablet it just tells them about their origin so as 1000 yourba proverbs
These are just vocational subjects not that it will be taught in class please linda get you story damn ryt before u post and judge this is not your first tym
If u need to ask questions ask and dont put your own tots or sentiments you have already given everybody what to say
If linda had posted "If they do this, this will help some part of yoruba children knw their origin and preserve their culture dat is already fading" i wonder wot ppl comment will be
For crying out loud most of the yourba children doesn't even know their family "oriki" again.
As for those with -ve comment i have noting else to say other than the wise saying "look before u leap" really points at u guys
We Nigerians are knowledgeable breed of people! I stand to be corrected. Ifa, from where I come, connotes divination, going before an ifa oracle means u want to know about some certain things dat hv been clouded.
Methink introducing ifa as a course or subject is to enable the future generation divine or search about some certains cloudy issues in whatever field before venturing into it, because success in it would have been foreseen unlike the many failures we have today.
Let's say, in election, when all the electorates are ifa compliant, all they need do is to divine who would be the best leader n pronto, all vote for him, and we will b spared wit all the heartaches we have today. Our security apparatus could use it well nt to talk about our scientist n engineers. Some one should ask the old warriors who never go to war without first consulting ifa. Thankgod its app is available on ipad, what more do we need, no longer a shrine, but a digital compiant ifa!
Kudos to ogbeni, I trowey 100 percent suPport!
I strongly support this decision. This is one of the principal foundation of the Yoruba heritage. We need to embrace and understand want we stand for as a people. We are without identity because we have neglect this aspect of our culture for long.

@anon 3:44 lmaooooo
Why dont you find out what ifa is all about before criticizing. IFA is just statiical studies, weaved around Yoruba stories and the outcome each one relate to.
IN the name of development and globalization, we have thrown away the scientific heritage we have and looking for solutions elsewhere. I wont be surprised if the brazilians steal it and it becomes theirs.
, I don't see what the problem is here.
