perhaps the strangest thing i found about this lisitng is how it almost doubles as a list of countries with the richest natural resources...there has to be a correlation between these 2. I think the people on the same Forbes richest list have a lot of answers as to how these countries got this way. Pack of jackals

No surprise that list is full of mainly African and middle Eastern countries. We need to develop.

Hi Linda
Tell these people of ours(Nigerians)the truth. Nigerians are more sad than this rating.

What is the percentage of Poor people in that country?

Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the deprivation of basic human needs, which commonly includes food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter, health care and education.

Nigerians are rated the happiest because they are delusional. Given teh very SAD conditions of living in the country, people's brains have this tendency to adjust to focus only on the 0.001% that represents success and ignore the 99.999% negatives. Ever talked to a poor Nigerian about how things have changed? They start with very infectious loud laughter. Then they say "e go better". Then they say things like "this person wey we get now better pass the devil wey been dey before. At least, I dey get some of my salary now". You look at the person and when you saw them 2 years ago, they looked less depleted, had more going by way of a future and certainly lived in a healthier environment from a mental health and physical health perspective. Nigeria is a fucked up nightmare and the only psychological coping mechanism that is triggered by such massive dysfunction is one that blinds the emotional eye to what it is that has fallen apart.

Everybody is suffering! Both the people in abuja.. Its only the politicians in abj that find life a bit easy for them, when u remove this group of people, every other person is suffering

Then u need to go to the north to see how people live in fear and. Poverty... Everybody is really suffering! Even those who can afford the good things of life still have somthing they wish was less cheap.. We produce oil and yet we buy for 97 naria per litre... When those buying from us sell for as low as 20naira per litre in there country...

The misplacemnt of power is causing more havoc than people know about... With the nature of my job,av been given opportunity to travel to most countries in the world and believe u me,even countries that are so poor still enjoy the little they have cos of good govt while countries that are rich do something tangible for there countries

US don't really have anything to fall back on to say that's the source of there wealth cos they don't have anything natural mineral resources but they are the number one...

As much as we wld want this to be a lie, it's not. Do u know how many Nigerians that got killed this Christmas esp in the east just because they came home to celebrate with their family?

My dad told me of a man, that came home to bury his late mom, and was killed by hoodlums in the east. Meanwhile his mothers corpse is still in the mortuary. His wife and kids r abroad.

how many pple die bc of lack of emergency treatment at the hospital bc they don't hv money. How about our legal system..filled with corrupt pple?
What abt our prisons, where pple are locked up without trial,,,of which most are innocent?

There's crime in America, there's crime in Nigeria...difference is that the system works. In America, you can sue the govt if your car is damaged by a pothole as long as u r a tax paying citizen. You are entitled to treatment at the emergency ward first before they start talking abt getting paid. Make I leave matter abeg.

God will help us all in Nigeria and make it a better place in Jesus name.

Atleast our kids don't commit suicide because they were bullied in school (God gave us a thougher skin).
Atleast we don't have a gun policy that allows maniac's and unstable mental patients go around shooting people with weapons. the most harmful thing our man men carry are stones (God we thank you).

Atleast we all don't live as slaves, owing companies or big financial institutions. we buy wat we own, and are proud of it.

Atleast our governemnt doesn't not tax off more than 50% of our salary.

my point is this, though not all of us can afford cars or even three square meals a day. That doesn't make the people who have that any more happy than us. If they've not leaved the Nigerian life, they dear not judge us...

I wonder what threshold is used to determine 'saddest nations'. let me guess, most probably countries that are vulnerable to conflict, countries with high rate of poverty etc and my question is why is syria not on the list of the so called 'saddest nation'. Everyday we watch how the citizens of that country migrate to neighboring countries to seek refuge. Even the richest man in syria is not a happy man, infact the whole nation is sad so why are they not on the list.
They are judging Nigeria by what they see and hear from international media, meanwhile most Nigerians are going about their normal lives and those causing these havocs are happy with what they are doing (for reasons best known to them). Nigeria is not a sad nation.

I agree Nigerians are strong people despite the harsh conditions, they find a way to make demselves happy and hopeful.also religion is a consolation cos it gives pple a temporary relief from the dawning realities surrounding them!that's y d church biz is good here.
In essence,I don't agree we should be termed sad,but rather we are suffering and smiling.

Unknown said...

They come on LIB and say Nigerians are suffering nd smiling........ All na wash.
Smiling my a**

Anonymous said...

Nigerians're just docile people, they're rather too lazy to be sad because if they're sad then they might be spurred into action...they prefer to suffer and smile.

America and Americans r major league assholes. How can u call urself d worlds super power and have this level of unemployment and racism? American youths arE turning into mass murderers?

The harsh economic envirionment. In d US now,is breeding a lot of mentally unbalanced youths.
Yes nigerians have issues but go to their nights outs and see happiest jolly ppl smiling and taking life in stride. One d one hand a Nigerian woman is d richest woman on earth? Then on anoda nigerians r 20TH saddest ppl? And then ur IMF is asking for d little benefits that we enjoy like fuel subsidy to be cut by dat fat manipulative finance minister who has been brainwashed by racist white economist that it is d best way to go.
Then they turn around and use their forbes to tell me nigeria is d saddest ppl! Fuck them.
If they said nigeria is number 1 corrupt nation,no doubt I won't blink. But coming frm US where ppl work themselves to death without a smile on their face? Naaaah won't believe that shit.

Uzo, at least if they are caught, they won't get away with it. People won't stand for mob violence. A child abuser caught red handed in the act would NEVER be released on bail after paying hospital fees thus making him free to abscond or believe that a 6yr old possessed a grown man into abusing her. Sadder still is that here is no accountability, no justice & therefore no sense of any improvement in the situation which is shameful for a country that has so much potential. SAD

Of course my dear,we don't go about Shooting people,we prefer the faster method that can take as many lives as possible, which is bombing innocent people, even as far as going to churches to carry out this evil act,so you see, nigeria is a sad sad place to live in,am sure when they said we were one of the most happiest people in the world, they where only been sarcastic.

Judging from the number of people in denial on this blog, Naija will NEVER get better cos we refuse to admit there is a problem. Suicide? You can only claim we don't do it cos we have no statistics but I assure you thousands take their own lives weekly. Mass shootings? Judging from the Ultimate Fighting I see on Lagos roads everyday cos of fender-benders, thank God guns are hard to come by. But a note of warning for all of you in denial cos you are "still ok": the time is almost here when the poor will have nothing to feed on except the rich.

I wonder why people are talking as if they don't live in this country. Are u oblivious of things happening around? What can be more saddening than the roasting of the aluu 4? Various kidnappings all over and Boko Haram attacks? The jos crisis nko?. Of course, Ghana can't be among the sad countries, it's a very peaceful nation and Nigerians are migrating there to commit crimes.

Forbes is on point.

Well, I won't blame dem for making africa look like armageddon, when we ave leaders who are ready to kill, steal and stay in power forever and we africans giving dem the power to rule for ever like it their birth right. We are also ready to lick the asses of super power like the usa, for anything dey say or just for their little favour which at the end will end up affecting our lives. Bullshit.

See all of you abusing Nigeria.Aren't you Nigerians? Fine Nigeria has some bad things going on but we are still not sad.Aren't you using the internet now? If Nigeria is such a sad place, you wouldn't even be here to say so why? Because you have access to the internet, food and you are even healthy enough! So be grateful to God and stop complaining. We also don't have natural disasters.May God help the poor people an children in Africa and help this country to be great.Amen
