Jimi Agbaje's Closing Statement

A closing statement from PDP Gubernatorial candidate, Jimi Agbaje...
To the good people of Lagos: As today winds down and our campaign officially comes to a close, let me be the first to thank each and everyone of you for your prayers, support and well-wishes throughout the course of this campaign.
A little over 3-months ago, I set out on a bold journey to CHANGE how government works not just for a few elites but for ordinary people.
It was clear from the beginning that I would face a formidable adversary in the APC - an incumbent party with a political machinery built and honed over the last 16-years. But I understood that as a candidate if I presented my case with the utmost level integrity; if I spoke from the heart about the challenges and the opportunities that we face as a state, the people will in return respond. I knew if I anchored my vision on the very values that shaped me as a young man as well as the principles of empathy, hard work and integrity that have guided me in life, Lagosians will come out of every nook and cranny of this vibrant state to support my candidacy.

Today, each and everyone of you have made this campaign what it is. With your voice, you have created a new narrative in our local politics. A narrative where ideas matter and ordinary people do have a say in future of our state. Because you chose to participate, we've been able to challenge the status-quo. Because you chose not to settle for nothing other than the best, our impending victory is in clear sight.

Lagos, this is our time to rewrite history. This is our moment of CHANGE. But we must have the courage to press on to the very end. From tomorrow, I encourage each and everyone of you to reach out to your friends, families and neighbours and make sure they all come out to VOTE. And as you vote, let's ensure that we're orderly, peaceful and vigilant. Come Saturday, April 11, let's make it clear to the establishment that we're sick and tired of corruption and the undue influence of vested interests in our state.
After tonight my online and social media handles will go quiet in respect for INECs campaign rules and guidelines. For me, it has been the greatest honour of my political life to have run in this race. With your support, I look forward to the privilege of serving as your Governor.
Once again, I thank you. ‪#‎Lagosforyou ‪#‎LagosforAll

First of all. Those who condemn Jimi Agbaje should be proud of him. For going against a set of cabals who have tried courting him in the past with no luck. It will honestly be refreshing to have a new leader outside that clan. Tinubu doesn't have to rile for the third time. Some ask what Mr Jimi has done for the masses. They forget he has a foundation, The Jimi Agbaje Outreach he has been using to empower so many youths and under privileged as a private citizen. Even I have benefited from it. Just because he's not a loud mouth arrogant MF. People don't value his quiet humility. His Pharmacy JK pharmaceutical is a manufacturing outlet, not a retail outlet. But his detractors and opposition propagandist will twist and sell you all lies but you people won't open your minds to see the light. Where is Roche and Beecham Pharmaceuticals that used to be in Nigeria? How many manufacturing outlets do they have? Yet his company has been able to survive over the years in this harsh economical climate. That's an honest entrepreneur. The idea that all this thieving politicians are the main template for success in this country is scary. Youths open your eyes. APC + PDP are the same thing. Vote the man who will put your interests first. Mr Jimi had been a big supporter of the youths. I'm really yet to see what gives me the confidence that Ambode understands the issues and will make a better Governor than Jimi Agbaje here in Lagos.

Lagos is just a beautiful girl who hadn't showered in weeks yet in clean clothes, perfume and make up to mask up her fowl odour. Go and see places in Lagos and you will understand that 16 years of APC hadn't mean that much of general development across the city. Unfortunately Fashola isn't running a third term....besides He, Tinubu and the APC party will be too busy running National affairs at the centre, to care that much what happens to the people of Lagos under Ambode's watch. But don't take my word for it.

We've seen Ambode dance. We've seen him pose for pictures. We have heard his spokesmen and mouthpieces speak for him. You can watch him debate Agbaje in this video now and decide:

https://t.co/Og96P4X0Y1

As for me, my friends and my family. Agbaje is the right man to LEAD lagos.

A lawyer, Atueyi Chukwudi Felix, has revealed why he and other Igbo people who were at the palace of Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, laughed and clapped when he threatened and cursed Igbo if they did not vote for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode.
Felix said Akiolu was only joking and speaking with them as friends, adding that friends were always free with one another.
He alleged that the person who did the video the event and made it public had a political motive.
The motive, he said, was to curry favour for the Peoples Democratic Party.
Felix noted that he felt it was expedient for him to speak up before things get out of hand.
He said: “I strongly suspect that all this is being portrayed in this manner simply to curry votes for the Saturday’s coming election, which is already at hand.”
He stated that the ongoing saga might compel some people, who had hitherto been indifferent to their civic duty, to go out of anger and vote against the Oba’s advice, just to dare him.
He said: “What the Oba said was fully and simply directed to only the Igbos present at the meeting who His Majesty considered to be very close to him and should understand him well enough.
“When one talks to his very close friends, he tends to be very free with them.
“He was being very free with those present at the meeting and wanted us to realize how serious and close he takes us and our votes because he could not imagine us giving him our words only to turn back and do the very opposite.”
Felix stressed that Akiolu did not force them to the meeting.
According to him: “We were the ones that went to him on solidarity visit, so it would be very evil of us to only go and deceive him there.
“He only jokingly warned the people present at the meeting who he considered his own people.”
The lawyer argued that if close attention was paid to the video, which went viral, Nigerians would discover that there was no specific point he referred to ‘all the Igbos in Lagos.’
He said that it was because they were close friends to Akiolu and understood him quite well that those of them present at the occasion applauded and laughed at the end of his speech.
“We were expected to thereafter talk to our people in civilized manner to convince them and canvass for their votes if we truly believe we are capable of doing so,” said Felix. “The tradition of lagoon water threat was directed only to those present there at the meeting, jokingly as culture demands. Although he appeared serious, but we all understood it as a joke, that was why we all applauded him and made fun of it there.”
Felix said that he was shocked at the twist the play took after the video went viral, stressing that he suspected serious politics at play.
He said he wouldn’t know who recorded the speech and decided to play politics with it, but “it’s most unfair to his majesty to be portrayed in this manner.”

MR JIMI AGBAJE,You want to remove Lekki Toll Gate, Yet the Airport Toll Gate owned By FG Is milking Lagosians Dry. The Airport Toll Gate generates N19b yearly yet the road to the airport is a sad story!!** You also promised 150,000 housing units, yet Jonathan could only build 30,000 Nationally in 6years at a cost o N3 Trillion Naira. Where u wan see the money?Lagos budget is N467 billion yearly. ** You Promised to reduce taxes, Yet Jonathan set up tax review which suggested an upward increase in taxes(Moreover, Jaykay Pharmacy didn't even pay taxes?) ** You want to abolish Lastma, Kai, Lamata etc, Yet Ferma, Sure-P,Immigtation,all demanded money from people to get employment.Sure-P in Lagos recieved N27b what was the money used for?**Yet The PDP led Federal Tax force' demanded and took N5000 for Application forms and and so took N35,000 for uniforms, yet they didn't employ one single soul.Shame!!!You want to pay Lagos Workers Minimum wage, as "Governor to be" did you ask the workers if they are not already enjoying N18,760.00 In Lagos. ** You said you will stop the Public Private Partnership used to build the Ikoyi Link Road. You must be out of your mind.Which project did the PDP execute in Lagos in 6 yrs, not one project. Moreover, your PDP led Federal Government signed PPP agreement to build '2nd Niger bridge' for N129 Billion. Jimi Agbaje, why are you promising what you know you cannot make happen just to win votes? Jimi Agbaje, what do you really have for Lagosians? Jimi Agbaje, Why are you trying to pit the Igbos against Lagosians? The Igbos are Lagosians too!!Jimi Agbaje,PDP as a party has failed!!Jimi Agbaje why are you trying to 'discontinue' the best performing state?A Government/State that has survived despite all Odds!!The reason why Lagos is working is because the PDP have never and will never rule Lagos!!We need CONTINUITY in Lagos because it's the PRAGMATIC choice!!!

So, if Lagos goes to PDP, Buhari will not give us revenue?

Can't see the point of this discourse
Is Lagos not a state in the federation?

So much for change in the so called APC.
Nepotism, bigotry, parochialism and tribalism seems to be the dividends of this vainglorious party

You deny ur own tribes man just to play politics. Efulefu....ndi ofe mmanu.
U hate igbos more than you love yourself.
I'm not voting for JK or voting at all but we igbos do what we want. Send that message to your oba ji abi oba. We igbos don't respect earthly kingship. So the man miscalculated. Igbos in Lagos voted Fashola, and he was in ACN. Ambode, they feel is a lout. Left 4 him to prove himself and stop hiding behind a broom. Tinubu's broom.

Fact is, there is rarely a consensus among igbos but we think alike and always prefer sane men to noise makers. Mind u, even if Obi of Onitsha himself had uttered the vile words your illiterate Oba uttered, we would have said even worse. We just can't be caged or compelled. We are the most independent minded tribe in Nigeria, this is why we were never good slaves like the Yorubas. And we were not conquered easily by the colonial masters(read about Ekumeku wars of 38yrs against white men and juxtapose it with the Oba Akintoye/Kosoko debacle and how they lost Lagos like cowards), also ask about the biafran war compare n contrast it wit d empty noise Yoruba people made when Abiola lost the election...this is also why we igbos rejected Islam. we cannot conform. Hate it or love it.
We don't want 2 take over Lagos. We can't. We don't want 2 rule nor be ruled. Just let us be and don't drag our name into ur power play or try to criticise our choices...next!

Jimi Agbaje lacks the credentials to lead a complicated city like lagos. Jimi doesn't even have any industry to show for it. He is one of this contract chasers that really hasn't really hasn't grown anything. Ambode is not only a chartered account he developed the system of accounting and internal revenue collection that many states and a few African countries have adopted. It is not english that will manage lagos, it is smartness and knowledge. Ambode knows lagos inside out. AMBODE IS A PROVEN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR. We can't afford wait for JK to catch up while he does on the job training and making mistakes. Koro and ex convict bode George will be breathing down his neck. Just let is continue with the progress. Jimi keeps mis informing the public that he owns gtbank. That is not true. Gtbank was started by Fola Adeola and Aderinokun. Jk is not the owner. It is now a public company. I can't stand when people manipulate the public for their own selfish purposes.
