Ascon Oil released this statement of their official Facebook page. Read below...
Ascon Oil Fire Outbreak: No Life Lost. Fire Contained
The fire incident at Ascon Oil filling station at Lekki Phase 1 this afternoon has been contained. Contrary to earlier speculations, the main building and the reservoirs are unaffected. The incident emanated from a discharge at the point of offloading product from a tanker, engulfing two tankers and some vehicles parked by the road side.
It was an accident compounded by the current fuel scarcity
in the country with ASCON OIL being one of the few stations with a
reliable steady supply even in times of scarcity. No life was lost to
the incident, the pumps are intact and emergency fire service officers
were already on site containing the flames as at the time of this
report.
ASCON OIL wishes to reaffirm its commitment to serving its
customers even in the face of accidents of this nature for which a
company of its pedigree is always prepared. Residents and passers-by
showed solidarity with the company as they contributed in no small way
to contain the flames.

Jonathan is ‘bleeding Nigeria to death’. It is time for change - Fani Kayode.
Jonathan's anticipated rigging will fail in 2015, APC more credible than PDP — Fani Kayode.
I will keep saying it. This type of thing happens when safety rules are not followed as can be seen here In an attempt to get leftovers in the tank.
This one should be investigated
Human Being No Be God
Hmmm now they r blaming it on fuel scarcity?? I weak
Ascon oil, what is a fuel station doing in a residential estate?corruption at its finest.Ascon oil ,dpr and the rest regulatory bodies should stop this nonsense.
Quite amazing.those"some cars parked by the road side"were actually on queue to buy fuel from the only dispensing pump in use at that particular time. The drivers were actually in those vehicles but could not manoeuver and had to jump out and flee to escape the inferno. while giving glory to God that no lives were lost, that statement was very insensitive and does not show any form of empathy towards people who lost their vehicles.
This is pure lies. I had a driver friend who was a witness. He bought his fuel right before the explosion and even saw the fuel attendant get burned before he ran off. Danfo with people in it got burnt and a family was also caught in the fire. The truth will come out by God's grace.
soooo for those whose cars were burnt. would ascon pay them for the damages?? that's what happens in a a civilised society
fire every where too bad.
follow my blog guys https://newsbylinda.wordpress.com/about/
I dont understand how fuel scarcity compounded the accident..nigerians,always looking for ways to shift a blame.cant u guys just accept the blame and apologise? Mstchewwwwww
Ok. Ascon oil. Pls take precautions like u have always done next time
So sad! Wat a loss
This was the reason why a lot of Lekki residents protested the construction of that filling station. Besides the attendant vehicular queues that usually follows the establishments of such and the influx of many people who should typically not have business around that area(security). Who could have imagined this kind of incident. They were only lucky no life was lost in dis one, it could have been worse. And for heaven's sake we have town planners and environmental development authorities in this country!.

What are you saying ? Pay for what? Was it their fault
Wao tank GOD dat there is no lost soul
See this people oh, trying to get props by saying they always have supply even during scarcity. They won't say that they were receiving product from a tanker and selling to the public AT THE SAME TIME which is against standard safety practices. They should have stopped selling, locked the gates, received from the tanker before continuing their sales.. It is also doubtful that no lives were lost given the speed at which petrol ignites..... God is watching them sha...
Wao tank GOD dat there is no lost soul
Wow! Thank God for " Life Lost, and Fire Contained".
Good question what is a petrol station doing in an estate? How was permit issued? By who? Corruption ? Why was Ascon selling fuel from one pump when there were 2 fully loaded tankers? To create artificial scarcity/chaos ? Hmmm there must arise a king who does not know Joseph, then Nigeria can begin its journey to normalcy
fantastic news, no life lost!
You honestly believe no life was lost, Liars
Stella Oduah filling station
Good question. What is a petrol station doing in a residential estate? How was approval issued?By who? Corruption!!! Why was Ascon selling from one pump with 2 fully loaded tankers on ground? To create artificial scarcity abc sell above pump price? Greed. I pray a King will arise who does not know Josph then Nigeria can begin its journey to Nornalcy!!!
Ascon is not responsible for the burnt vehicles.rhe owners should have insurance on their cars.
Continuity of fuel scarcity
Lekki phase1 residents won't take this likely. That's a fact for sure
So sad!
What a loss?
So they should have kept quiet. Any educated person knows they will replace the cars.it is their obligation.
The problem is that this tanker drivers and station managers are not trained on safety rules. do They know how to BOND BECAUSE OF STATIC ELECTRICITY. NO
Thank God no life lost.
Thank God no life was lost....
It is such a shame but this are accident / disasters that can b avoided! I mean! Comon! So no one has the common sense 2 realize that a filling station shouldn't be in residential area? Or a clustered one at that! But hey its Nigeria no laws no protection no safety!! #itiswell
No be lie
Insurance go cover. Hope no life was lostrich though.
Aawwww sorry 4 d losss
Thank God no life was lost!
I wonder who their right mind thought it a good idea to have a gas station in a residential estate. A residential estate with no active fire service. It's pure madness! The main road in Lekki - Admiralty Way - now resembles Western Avenue. No loss of life now but watch this space not wishing bad for someone business but it's going to happen soon.
I saw the scene moments after the fire outburst. ..it'd be a miracle if no life was lost ,but also good news! IT IS WELL
Bia, maky are u ok? This country is not good is because of people like you, what has Goodluck got to do with this?
Arrant Nonsense!!!!!!!! What is a fuel station doing in a residential area???? God would surely judge all of you....
Thank God no life was lost.
