How Gov Fashola & I have managed our religious differences in our marriage - Mrs Fashola speaks

In an interview with Channels TV yesterday, First Lady of Lagos state, Dame Abimbola Fashola opened up on how she and governor Fashola have been able to manage their home despite their religious differences. She's Catholic. He's a Muslim. She said;
"We got married in the Church, the Catholic church, that is who I am, that's where you will take me from and that was done. But ever since then my husband has practiced his religion and I have practiced mine. There is no trouble whatsoever. My husband has his own part of the house where he prays, I have my own altar there with my crucifix and my rosary and everything and everyone is minding their own business. When its time for family prayer, we pray. I pray mine to the name of Jesus Christ while he prays in Allah's name & the children understand all that. My children are baptized and they go to church. When he wants them to go to mosque with him they go to the mosque with him.
Mrs Fashola also revealed that to get her husband to do something she wants personally, he would ask her to put it in writing so that he would not forget and give it urgent attention. She said it has become important now that everything that she needs to be done has to be documented and passed to her husband because that is how he says he can manage the homefront and the state effectively.

This work out only because Fashola is a yoruba muslim. Dont try it with Hausa muslims, you must to practice Islam if you as a lady get married to them.

I love this woman, I see sincerity , openness and understanding in her face when she smiles. Gov Fashola' is a very blessed dude for marrying this kind of woman.

What level confusion for the Children. No matter how they try to paint it as 'working'. It is strongly discouraged.

Love is ready to understand, to tolerate and to gradually draw out the best out of each other's belief, which is the true religion, loving our neighbors as ourselves.

My heart bleeds reading this. I was once in love with a Muslim, he actually converted to Christianity but I wasn't comfortable with the fact that he was a Muslim before. I have never loved any man the way I loved him.
Even my present husband I don't love him the way I loved my ex. Eventually I broke up the engagement with my ex cause of this sole reason.
Listening to Mrs Fashola I do have regrets, love conquers all and religion should not be a barrier to love because you can always work things out where there is understanding between you.
You cannot determine the religion your children will be. My current husband is a sign post Christian who doesn't even like to worship God or pray.
So pray for your kids and family it's only God that guides, protects and directs a home.

Its not really that confusing, My mother is Muslim an Alhaja infact and my grand mother is Anglican. On friday I follow my mom to pray and on sunday God help me if i refuse to go to church, my GM will beat the day light out of me. I have the best of both world, I grow up knowing Christ and Islam. We all worship the same God, the God of Abraham. How you choose to worship God is base on the Household your grow up in. No one have 1st choice to God. we are all his children, even if you pray to God with out Putting Jesus name, I don't think God will get upset at you. Even doh I go to redeem every Sunday, I still go to Jumu'ah when I need Good desperately.

The family that prays together lives together, stop saying rubbish madam, you guys should face one religion.

Pls it is not bcos he is a yoruba or liberal man. It is d position of sharia for those who do not know anything about Islamic religion. Islam expect him to drive her down to her place of worship. The woman can chose to retain her maiden name if she so wish. Pls read abt islam and you will see d place of d woman. So Fashola is just keeping the teaching of his religion.

Most Catholics are not horn again o they just go to church for going sake....any true born again spirit filled Christian will never marry a Muslim.... What has light to do with darkness? We don't worship the same God......if you had married a northern Muslim you would have been singing a different song...

Anonymous said...

We do not worship the same God......no spirit filled born again Christian will marry a Muslim.....the bible says a man will leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife....this is not true marriage in the sight of God as we know as Christians cos they are not one in spirit....yes they are a good couple who love each other but by bible standards this is not an ideal marriage....how can one be in mosque and another in church then you say u are one in spirit?

Anonymous said...

"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers", talk more of marriage. Madam, your Christianity should be queried.
