Ailing Nollywood filmmaker, Chike Bryan gets N10m grant from GEJ

Ailing Nollywood movie producer and current National President of Script Writers Guild of Nigeria (SWGN), Chike Bryan, who was diagnosed with kidney failure in July 2013 has received a N10m support from President Jonathan for his kidney transplant in India, Encomium magazine reports.

The President's support was made known to him by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President, Ibinanabo Fiberisima at the AMAA awards in Bayelsa State over the weekend.

Acknowledging the support, Mr Bryan thanked the President as well as Ibinabo Fiberisima who helped to facilitate it in her capacity as the AGN President. Continue...

In a telephone interview with Encomium magazine, Ibinabo thanked the president for the kind gesture and promised to do more for other artistes in similar conditions.
"You are aware that a member of Nollywood, Chike Bryan, has been sick for a while now. Fortunately, President Goodluck Jonathan has given him some money to take care of himself and we have to appreciate him for always being their for us" she said
Chike Bryan was diagnosed with chronic renal failure in July 2013 and has been undergoing dialysis at Igando General Hospital, Lagos. He will now proceed to India for intensive medical care.

Our president gave him money to go get treatment in India???? Am I the only person who sees something wrong with that? If a PHd holder president is this ridiculous in reasoning what hope does Nigeria have?

I am happy for this dude, but what about the many unknown Nigerias dying in various hospitals across the country. A peoples president should be building or facilitating the construction of a world class hospital to take care of its citizens. A local hospital will be cheaper and access will not be limited. I am an advocate of free healthcare and it should be the responsibilty of any Government to care for the health of its citizen absolutely free. People should not be punished for the genes passed down by their parents. Money from our revenue should be earmarked for this automatically. Saving life should not be about connection or lottery.

He should help Kelechi Unegbu as well that will be just great. Nice if him. But I hv a question: why is it that most people who suffer from renal or kidney failure are usually actors or musicians. There's need to look into it. Seriously.

Thank you so much Mr president, we Nigerians have always known you as a kind-hearted man, a friend in deed, a good brother to his people and most importantly a good luck to our country Nigeria. May I use this opportunity to tell you that tears endureth in the night but joy cometh in the morning. The darkest part of the night is the closest to daybreak. It is well Mr president. This is the height of betrayal and hypocrisy. Now those whom the public expects to lead a protest like NLC, TUC, AGN, DBANJ, JUDGES, POLICE, MILITARY, ICPC, EFCC and even NANS have been silenced.

They have been given their share of the national cake so the masses can fuck off.

Aint this guyz supposed to ask Jonathan how long it takes to build a standard hospital? Aint they meant to ask why basic infrastructures are non-existent? Our rights is now been given to us as a PRIVILEDGE. It is well.

God will Continue to bless the president Jonathan and his family

In as much as I agree that it's a nice gesture on his part, what he has to do for us to be more appreciative is for him to invest in our health sector, by building and equipping standard hospitals across the country. The money the money that this administration and the past ones wasted and filtered away is more than enough to do that. For how long do we have to continue embarking on foreign trips for every illness? Meanwhile, it's only the elites with the resources for such trips that are availing themselves of the opportunity, the poor masses are left left at the mercies of few functional and I'll equipped hospitals. We don't need handouts from the president, what we need is qualitative health care delivery system in the country. Is it not even a shame that the president of a whole country has to donate money to a patient to seek medical care outside of the country? We are blessed as a country we have all it takes to make this country great. And excuses are no longer acceptable. Jonathan and all the present and past leaders should all hide their faces in shame!

I have observed that a lot of male Nigerians are been diagnosed with Renal failure lately.i think is high time the Medical team in Nigeria bring about health changes, health education on causes and measures to prevent renal failure.# Sometimes i really want to help my country in my own little way, but--------- fill in d blank#. Sucks!

Real Dear said...

many Nigerians use bleaching creams, refuse to treat their hypertension with conventional medicines or do the same with diabetes. These are the major causes of kidney failure.
It is high time for the country to buy numerous Dialysis machines to provide life saving dialysis to people who cannot afford kidney transplant.

HERE GOES IGNORANT NIGERIANS PRAISING THEIR HIGH FUNCTIONING RETARED OF A PRESIDENT FOR WHAT SHOULD BE THEIR RIGHTFUL ENTITLEMENT! PATHETIC!

Kind of GEJ for d gud gesture, but shame/woe 2 him for being so shameless in sending ur own citizen 2 anoda country 2 seek medical attention! Didn't u see d big WRONG in dat? Didn't d fact dat dey were soliciting for funds frm u reflect d dead state of d health sector in d country u preside over? If ur health sector was standard, wld der hav bn nid 2 send ur citizen elsewhere in search of medical attention??? Smh!!! Really, how many ppl can he kip helping in dis manner? Solution is: improve ur health sector! Stop assisting 1 out of billions of ill nigerians;dats no kindness....d only kindness u can show 2 ur ppl is making gud medical services available 2 all and sundry. Shikena!

You guys are so stupid it's unbelievable! Shame on GEJ! Shame on Nigeria! The president dashes a sick man 10m for treatment in India n u people r thanking him and ibinabo?? Shame! I'm so disgusted right now! I am a UK trained nigerian doctor working in Nigeria. Our conditions are beyond appalling! Nigerian docs are amongst the smartest in the world but our health system is a disgrace! GEJ n whoever else in charge shld focus on improving our health care delivery so the vast majority of ill Nigerians can access quality care from home grown nigerian intelligent doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. He is there dashing money you are here thanking God. SMDH!!!!
