Who agrees with this saying?

The saying is; God gives us what we deserve.
It's a popular saying that people like to use but I'm curious about it. Does He, really? So if you have a bad husband, bad friends, family members, colleagues etc, it's because you deserve it? If bad things happen to you, it's because you deserve it? Please share your thoughts...

The saying that God gives us what we deserve is wrong, and also when a person dies or bad thing happen or natural disaster happen, people say things like, "it is the will of God". This sayings are wrong because they portray God as a bad and uncaring God, you might want to argue that if God cared, would not the world be free of war, hatred, misery, sickness, suffering and death, even some religious leaders buttress this point by telling people when tragedy happen, that it is the will of God, but the truth is that God does allow this things happen but he is not the cause

God is love (1 john 4:8), and also he is holy (Isaiah 6:3), so how would a God that is love and holy, give us evil, or cause bad thin to happen to us? He is a lover of justice (Psalm 37:28), so he cares deeply about what is wrong and right, he hates all kind of injustice, hates all the bad friend, bad husband, bad wife, bad colleagues, bad family members we have, the bible says that God "felt hurt at his heart" when badness filled the world in time past (Genesis 6:5-6), and the same God has not changed (Malachi 3:6), he still hates to see us suffer, he is a caring God (1 Peter 5:7)

So if the bible has told us that God is love, and caring, and hate injustice, and he doesn't change, how then can we say he gives us what we deserve with evil or badness, how can we say when bad thing happen to us, he is the cause, although he allows this bad things to happen, but there is a big difference between allowing something to happen and causing it

But the question is why does God allow this things happen? If God is all powerful, loving, wise, and just, why is the world full of hatred and injustice?

1) the reason why people feel God is the cause of badness in this world is because they think he is the ruler of this world, but that's not true, the world is ruled by the one called devil and satan. Of course Jehovah is the almighty God and creator of this world, yet nowhere does the bible say God is the ruler of this world, in fact, Jesus specifically referred to satan as the "ruler of this world" (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11) also the bible referred to satan as the ruler of this world in (1 John 5:19), so when you think about it, does that not make sense? This world reflects the personalities of the one ruling it.

Some might think why did God allow satan to be ruler of this world? Here is the reason, when satan led Adam and eve into sinning against God, he was leading a rebellion and challenging God's way of ruling, he was indirectly saying, God is a bad ruler, he tells lies and holds back good things from his subject, that's why he said Adam and eve should not eat out of a particular fruit, that humans don't need God ruling over them, they can decide for themselves what is good and bad, and will be better off under his rulership, so in God's perfect sense of justice, he decided that time was needed to answer satans insulting challenge, to prove that devil is a liar, so he allow humans to rule themselves. Under satans influence

2) the second reason is mankind is imperfect and sinful, because of our sinful ways, we humans are greedy, selfish, wicked, jealous and all this things result in war, oppression, suffering, having bad husband, wife, and we can't walk on a burning fire expecting our feet not to get burnt, so our sinful act, do have nemesis, that comes back to hurt us

3) the third reason is because of unforeseen occurrence ( Ecclesiastes 9:11). In a world with. God as the ruler, people may suffer because of bad luck, and because they happen they be in the wrong place at he wrong time

Please I would advice any body reading this write up to please try and read those bible portion, Have taken my time to research this bible portions to drive home my points
May God continue to help and protect us in this wicked world ruled by satan

A lot of people talk out sheer ignorance or obvious lack of understanding. God is not partial so as to give good things to some people and bad to others (Acts 10:34,35). And from the scriptures, we cannot blame Jehovah for our trials or tribulations ( James 1:13-15). We should instead rely on him when undergoing trials (1Peter 5:6,7)

Yes, Linda, as harsh as it sounds, we inevitably get what we deserve...If something bad happens, look deeply, search well, the reason isn't always far-fetched. It may look like the victim was innocent but, really? Even if the 'victim' is 'innocent', someone related to him by blood must have done something. Truth is, we can't deny blood tie. It's nature.

Life gives us what we demand and not what we deserve, which can eida be a good or bad demand. Always try 2 be sure of your demands.#scandal

The saying that "God gives us what we deserve" is a statement that is born out of the tradition and doctrine of men, that has made the word of God of no effect. If God gives us what we deserve, we will all be probably dead by now.

God gives us what His Son, Jesus, died to purchase for us. Jesus didnt die to purchase bad things for you.

Who is now responsible for all the bad things in the world? You guess right!....The DEVIL!!!

God is not the source of EVIL. But the devil is, bcos he came to steal , kill and destroy!

God is a good God. God is love. He is trying to help you and not destroy you.

If bad things ever happen to you, know that the devil is the source and not God. Submit yourself to God and RESIST the devil and the devil will flee from you.

You cant resist the devil if you believe that God is the source of the bad things.

For instance, why will you pray for healing or go to the hospital for check up if you believe that God is the source of that sickness? You could as well accept it in good faith, since God is the one that gave it to you, as He is trying to teach you a lesson. Praying for healing or going to the hospital will be seen as a way of resisting the "will of God".

"God gives us what we deserve" is a religious blunder triggered by Satan to separate us from the love and true nature of God!

the wages of sin is death ...
whichever of you has not sinned, should counter this ...

God only gives us the best per time and how we can handle it. if we cannot handle it, then he gives us what we can handle ...

My kind advice: You should seek deliverance. Go to Scoan or any living church and be set free.

I prefer to say God gives you what you can handle and in doing so there is usually a reason i.e. preparing you for something much bigger that you won't appreciate if you don't go through certain things. His plans for us are not to suffer but to prosper its just as humans we aren't patient as my mum will say "o jiya o ni pe O gbon tani teacher e" don't always think things will go great if you have nothing to show for it. Every one has a story. GOOD, BAD and UGLY.

So if you have a bad husband! Read what you wrote, why not add if you have a bad wife???

You lot are pathetic and this is why you people are always miserable. Take responsibility for your lives and leave the men alone.

i disagree, God to pay us with evil tins for us to learn.what about a good woman that have a bad husband those she deserve it too? we choose our destiny ourself simply as that.

First of all, that is a human saying. so it is flawed already. so many people who are enjoying the best things in life are not the best people. so go figure.

i dnt really believe dat... cause u can b a sinner and still hav a good life.. and u can also b a Godly person and hav a very poor life....for example.....do u believe u are broke..or u are failing ur exams...or ur nt living a comfortable life because u deserve it..i rather believe dat everything happens for a reason...so NO aunty Linda..the things that happen to u or the situation dat u find ur self in is nt because u deserve them..weather good or bad...

God gives us whatever He wishes. That is why He is called the unquestionable God. When bad things happen to seemingly good people, it's not because they caused it, although it could serve as an expiation for some sins which you may not have to pay for in the hereafter (I'm talking from a Muslim's point of view). In ALL cases I have seen good people suffer, they are compensated. Just because you see someone smiling all the time doesn't mean they're not suffering. The grass is always greener on the other side Linda.

Yes Linda this is true. But distinguish it from a bad situation because people say good things happen to bad people etc, situations will pass but their permanent state will never be at rest if they are bad, it will be bad after bad. - Look at the end result. I love Gal 6:7 and it says "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" - It's like aborting a child pre-marriage and then asking God why it can't happen later

Everything good, yes. Everything bad, no.

O God is good. When I saw this post I sincerely did not want to comment without a scriptural backing so I ignored. Surprisingly, my spirit took me to study the book of revelation this morning and the answer popped up.
YES! To the unrepentatnt sinners (especially fornicators and adulterers), God will give them what they deserve. See what Son of God Himself said in Rev 2: 20-23(NewLivingTranslation):
21. I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to turn away from her immorality.
22. Therefore I will throw her on a bed of suffering, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer greatly unless they repent and turn away from their evil deeds.
23. I will strike her children dead, then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out all the thoughts and intentions of every person AND I WILL GIVE TO EACH OF YOU WHAT YOU THE DESERVE.

So, unrepentant sinners get what they deserve but the righteous get what they desire of God (prov 10:24b).
God bless you all.

God's taught towards us are tughts of good and not evil to give us a future and a hope. I do not believe that bad things should happen to anybody no matter what. However, i know the saying goes; "what goods around comes around."
