I dont support discrimination by appearance but I think the underlying issue here is the mystery around Dora's appearance. I think if people know what her ailment is or was, then it is easier to accept. A public figure cannot show up completely emaciated only after 4 months without explanation and expect us to wring our hands and say thank God. No. The public needs to know what happened. If not, then let her avoid public events. She clearly had a nearly catastrophic encounter with death and disease. So she should tell us - I had cancer or I am HIV positive and just move on. Once people know with certainty that you are suffering from an illness of that caliber, they will no longer bother you. Otherwise, she should stay home. Its such a sad sad thing for the one strong female we know to be so sick that she is all bonified. Its startling and depressing.

I dont support discrimination by appearance but I think the underlying issue here is the mystery around Dora's appearance. I think if people know what her ailment is or was, then it is easier to accept. A public figure cannot show up completely emaciated only after 4 months without explanation and expect us to wring our hands and say thank God. No. The public needs to know what happened. If not, then let her avoid public events. She clearly had a nearly catastrophic encounter with death and disease. So she should tell us - I had cancer or I am HIV positive and just move on. Once people know with certainty that you are suffering from an illness of that caliber, they will no longer bother you. Otherwise, she should stay home. Its such a sad sad thing for the one strong female we know to be so sick that she is all bonified. Its startling and depressing.
