LOL. People now use home cleaning creams to bleach their skin?

Once again, nothing wey person no go hear. Lol. According to MediaTakeOut, there's a new trend in South Africa, where girls use "Handy Andy" - which is like cleaning cream with bleach (meant for cleaning homes) - on their skin. Over time the cleaning cream eats away at the skin, and gives an appearance of a "lighter" complexion. Is this really happening in SA?

I don't believe it, why would people use such a harsh product on their faces when there are much cheaper lightening products which are also harsh but much, much milder than household bleach. I think someone is just trying to play pranks on the net.

As a South African I can say that majority of our people are light skin to medium brown but we do have dark skin but our darkest range is not West African dark which I adore,I'm medium brown with a yellow undertone and West Africans consider me light which in my country I don't qualify my boyfriend is Nigerian and his friends call me light skinned they always say SA babes are light compared to Nigerians so even the ones bleaching are not even that dark so this is funny I'm more into clean skin that's well taken care of does not matter the color since features make up 80% of ones beauty IMO so bleaching can't do much if you are not pretty to begin with ladies need to know that there are guys who love it dark while others like it yellow just sit and wait till the one who appreciates you come along don't bleach and end up with burnt knuckles and ashy skin like I've seen whenever I visit Lagos self love goes a long way

This is insane people need to learn self love being light skin does not mean one will be good looking just like being dark does not mean you ugly the white man has truly brainwashed our people even here in Lagos there's no black beauty again all the girls want to be light and end up ashy I have lived in SA and I know for a fact they more lighter then Nigerians naturally because of some admixture they have

Anonymous said...

Foolish at and in the highest order.

Apple Berry said...

Ok. Its not today ppl started doing crazy stuff to be like others. Stupidity

Anonymous said...

It can not be true. Because the bleach will be highly corrosive. Which means it will burn and erode the skin. It's as good as pouring acid on your face. It will not only burn your skin but it will leave you with horrible patches. Both light and dark. So please do not try it on your skin.

Anonymous said...

I have seen women nowadays that have face lighter than what they use to be. But also fingers much darker than what they use to be as well. Their hands are so ugly

Colorism in black communities worldwide is one of the key factors that drive and sustain skin bleaching. Girls and women who bleach have imbibed the colorist mantra that light is beautiful while dark is ugly. This mantra is reinforced by the mass media and entertainers that tend to use light skinned people, preferably with euro-centric features, in their advertising, music videos, TV programs, and films. Unless we as a people recognise colorism for the monster it is, speak out against it, and stop supporting and giving our money to companies and entertainers (e.g. lil wayne, jay z, most American hip hop & rap musicians, some Nigerian artists that only use light skinned girls in their videos, etc.), bleaching will remain a problem for us. Also, like was done by the Senegal Fashion Week in July of this year, may be employers of all types should stop employing people (male and female) that bleach their skins. Let's see how many will continue the self-destructive act when their livelihoods are put at risk.

Anonymous said...

And of course the price of that cleaning agent will go up.. It had better go up o. lol

Anonymous said...

What rubbish!! stop believing everything you see and read...seriously! We not as obsessed with being light skinned as most Africans are...infact we LOVE being BLACK

Lady G said...

Stop believing MTO. all their stories are blasphemy. And bleach for cleaning does not bleach the skin, only an illiterate person will believe that. If anything it will make you darker because It will burn your skin and cause serious irritation.
