Pres. Jonathan breaks silence, speaks on why he conceded defeat

President Jonathan has given his reason for conceding defeat to President elect, Gen Buhari during the March 28th Presidential election. The President said he decided to concede to avoid a collective tragedy. He said there has to be a nation before any personal ambition can be fulfilled and that for him, what comes first is the nation before ambition. Pres Jonathan said this when he received the new French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denis Guaer (pictured left) at the state house yesterday April 16
"Since I assumed duty, I have been involved in quelling political crises in some African countries and I know what they passed through and what some are still going through. If you scuttle a system for personal ambition, it becomes a collective tragedy. You need to have a nation before you can have an ambition. It should always be the nation first. You don’t have to scuttle national progress for personal ambition. Democracy has to be nurtured to grow. Strong democratic institutions are the backbone and future of our democracy. They must be protected and nurtured. As for me, as a matter of principle, it is always the nation first" he said.

Compromise makes a good umbrella, but a poor roof; it is temporary expedient, often wise in party politics, almost sure to be unwise in statesmanship.

Unknown said...

The essence of statesmanship is not a rigid adherence to the past, but a prudent and probing concern for the future.

OH THIS IS A BULLSHIT. I DONT BELIEVE NIGERIANS ARE THIS GULLIBLE

GEJ FOUGHT AGAINST YORUBAS BUT THEY PREVAILED BCOS THEY ARE MASTERS OF PROPAGANDA. YOU DONT GO AFTER THEM PLAYING MR NICE GUY. THEY ARE RABID AND WOULD STOP AT NOTHING. SO WHEN FIGHTING THEM, STOP AT NOTHING. GO ALL OUT BCOS THEY FIGHT DIRTY. MOTHERS, SONS, FATHERS, EVERYBODY IS INVOLVED. THAT'S HOW THEY FIGHT.

Omo Igbo.. U still on Buhari's matter. Smh.

Nyx your comment is so biased that even a small child will see tru it. Did you call the election freely fair? It's either you know the truth and you just trying to hide it or u are just being mischievous. The likes of you can never do what GEN did yet you fail to appreciate what he did. You are just a hypocrite.

All those were apc propaganda. Trying to heat up the system. That party is full of trouble makers. May God save this country from their hands amen.

Anonymous said...

Preach that to all Apc members cuz they don't seem to know that.

And why didn't Buhari do same in 2011? Rather he chose to spill the blood of innocent people. What happened in June 12 election what is happening in Zimbabwe? Anyways the truth is that most Nigerians hardly appreciate good things. We should be grateful to God and Jonathan that this election went well.

Thank you for your genuine observation. I thought I was the only one that noticed it. May God deliver us from the hands of Apc members.

Really? I don't think you know what a war looks like. The killings that Buhari caused in the north would have just been a tip of the iceberg beg if Jonathan had not acted this way. Do you know that countries Like America predicted that Nigeria will seize to exist in 2015. why do you think they said that? But GEJ put them to shame

Anonymous said...

Of course he did it. U can't see it cuz u don't have discerning spirit. You are here commenting on Lib because there is no war. If the election had resulted to a war am sure you will be running around now looking for where to hide. All thanks to GEJ.

Anonymous said...

I no blame you. It's because GEJ didn't allow this election end in a war that's why u can come and type rubbish here. I must comment group of people. Why don't you think before commenting
