Gov Fashola rewards female police officer who disarmed two robbers that tried to steal from her

Lagos state Governor Babatunde Fashola yesterday rewarded Sergeant Mercy John pictured above for bravery. The female police officer single-handedly disarmed two robbers who attempted to dispose her of her belongings at Egbeda-Shasha by Tawakalitu Close, Orisunmibare Road, Lagos on 10th February, 2015.

Sergeant Mercy, a native of Ikori in Cross River State was on her way to work when armed robbers attacked her. She fought back and was able to recover a locally made pistol with two live cartridges from them. At a ceremony which held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Fashola encouraged the brave female officer not to relent in her efforts in keeping the state safe...

"Let me say very clearly that I value the work that you do, people of Lagos value what you do and where ever you come from, this is your home and I think it is right to say that it was because you take this as home, you did the right thing, you took two robbers out of commission so that the people of Lagos can sleep well’’ he said

Linda this is a classic example of someone simply doing her job, but guess what? She got rewarded. It still beats me why you would think a poor janitor who returned a huge sum of money to the authorities should not be recognised and rewarded. Good deeds are becoming very hard to find; let us appreciate the few people who do it.

I wish her all d very best, and congrats.

My respect for this man can't be described. The country will definitely be a better place if we have people like him in government. "Eat and let others eat too"

Unknown said...

well done to the officer for taking advantage of her training to protect herself and her property, I personally would like to read about officers that are rewarded for serving and protecting the lives and properties of others outside themselves

Meanwhile, what is supposed to be her job? What she is trained to do? What she's paid to do?
We need to stop mediocrity....its ridiculous...rewarding a policewoman for protecting herself, if she now protects the citizenry, we should make her a president shey? Mtscheeew

Can someone please try and reach the governor's office and let him know about the orekoya kids? Can the government please come to the aid of this family? Please in situations like this it's actually the job of the government to protect the citizens. Please please and please and am not talk about paying the ransom, let them use the police, the military intelligence force, all of them to try and get those kidnappers. They might even lure them to come get the money and use their skills to not just get the kids but also the culprits. Please Linda help out and reach the government office. Let fashola be contacted. Some people say they smell foul play this is the only way we can truly know I'd there is actually any foul play. The lives of the ordinary citizens should matter too. In developed countries even if their pussy Wey lost them ho anounce am.as I'd na human being and they will make sure that cat comes out unharmed. Please please and please. All those people who used all their might to campaign for politicians even though they are not politicians and even though those who were vying for those offices didn't know them, they still went that far posting links about how good a particular candidate is and also posted numerous links about how bad the opposition is. Please they should do the same for this family. Not contributing money, jut making sure the government acts that's the fastest way to get help.

I'm sorry did someone say she was doing her job? Nope, she was going home and was accosted by robbers and she defended herself that's commendable cos the robbers could have attacked someone else, the police also have day offs too. So I'm sorry a janitor returning property that she found to the owner that just so happens to be a lot of money should be thanked simple, hero she is not

...uhh she's a police woman...it's kind of what she should be doing. Let us pray that these common things become more common in our society so that when we see it we're not declaring holiday!!

While I commend her for her bravery. I don't really endorse a woman or even a man fighting two armed robbers unless u know u're a trained martial artist or u know u're really on a safe position to really whoop their ass. Otherwise it's foolish 2 risk ur life 4 any amount of property

Your naivety is incomprehensible. What do u mean by days off? You r saying police officers have day off from protecting themselves n dier nation? Haba na keep calm, reason a little before you talk. Am rather disappointed that as a lady, you can't see d effect of this absurd reward. If it was a male officer, it wnt even reach street news not to talk of the governor's desk. Rewarding her is like sayn 'since u r a woman, you try' isn't it her job. Why can't my VC reward me 4 writing 15 pages note in a day, as a student?!

Unknown said...

Isn't that what she was trained to do???

Unknown said...

Can u return 6million naira...dey well jor!!

Unknown said...

Shooo dis kind tin suprise me....oo not even a military woman...police which trainin dem dey giv dem kwanu? Is either the two men are blind or beta stil imbecile..

Even the US military reward soldiers for bravery. There is always a start
