The 33-year-old cameraman and writer started showing symptoms of the disease on Wednesday Oct. 1st and immediately quarantined himself after suspecting he might have contracted the disease.
He then went to the Doctors Without Borders test center in Monrovia, Liberia where it was confirmed he had the disease. He is expected to be evacuated from Liberia to the United States immediately for treatment.
Four other NBC News team members who have shown no signs of the infection will also return to the US to undergo precautionary quarantine.

Liberia needs help,Ebola is sweeping through the country,if care is not taken the losses recorded during their civil war will be way bigger than that of Ebola.

WoW he quarantined himself when the Liberian man went to US. Are u people seeing our African mentality? All we think in Africa is just wickedness that's how ebola was also brought to Nigeria and I thank God we fought it well
As much as i can be selfish and say everyone needs to get out of Liberia i also pray this scourge will pass over that country it's getting really terrible. A holocaust of sorts.
Awwwww. For a while the world thought this ebola mess had being over and done with and then it decides to rear its ugly head. Luckily it hasn't claimed any lives yet.
If it happens to be Africans, they would have gone around spreading the stuff....get well soon anyways .....#BALKAN

It's easy to quarantine yourself when you know your country has your back. In as much as I believe it's the right thing to do
Bona you can say that again!
Kidnapper on d rampage, ladies run for ur lives oh,na guy pin be dat
May God heal them all. by dobis112@gmail.com
Wow! And I bin dey think say you get common sense before o. So you think they will out him on a commercial flight to sit next to healthy travelers? They will be sending him a private well-insulated/quarantined plane. He'll be in hazmat suit etc and will also be the only passenger on the plane, just like they did for the first 3 Americans contract Ebola in Africa. Thank me later
For once, you're not making the amount of sense you should be making. The American man knows that any-which-way, help will come his way from America, they'll never leave him hanging. But for the Liberians, it might as well be a death-sentence unless their immune system combats the virus successfully; and that's never guaranteed. No Zmapp, quarantine facilities are horrendous, most Liberians go in there to die. Even the first American doctor said he knew he was just about to die right before his Zmapp arrived from America. The only people that seem to be doing the right thing are those who know they have a hope and help is coming. I am very much against what these people are doing by exposing otherwise healthy people to the virus. Sawyer, on the other hand could have been purely evil because choosing to fly to Nigeria doesn't even make any sense because we had our own problems like boko haram etc and our health system isn't top-notch. But other peeps are just desperate, it is more of desperation than wickedness. Most people would self-quarantine if they knew the help they need would surely come after. I just pray Africa gets the help she needs.
