Aftermath of Nyanya blast: Military checkpoint causes traffic gridlock

In the wake of the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on Monday April 14th, which killed over 80 people, military checkpoints have been mounted at various strategic road junctions to check human and vehicular activities in the FCT.

Motorists/workers say these checkpoints have become a big problem for them as they lose many useful hours in traffic with some of them getting late to work and receiving queries.

According to a report on Channels TV, residents in Abuja say their fear is in the manner in which the military men carry out their search operations. They say the traffic opens them to a possible attack from Boko Haram men who can take advantage of the gridlock and strike again. They pleaded with the military to seek more effective ways to carry out their search...

Imagine a bomb explosion in this gridlock? Imagine an attack here? The mess will be on a scale of its own. Please my fathers' children, let's find a different way to tackle this situation.

BH is always one step ahead of the Nigerian security services. How dumb can this be? Do check points stop attacks. Intelligence is the only way and that has worked in other parts of the world. Imagine what would happen should a sucide bomber get into that traffic the amount of casualities there would be. I am even inclined to think the military even benefits from this boko haram matter

The block is a nightmare! My mom has a farm down that way, they were stuck in traffic for 6 hours. She said the experience was scary because she knew that Boko harram could take advantage of the traffic and choose to strike at any time and cause a major explosion. That is definitely not the best solution.

Wait, so what is now stopping Boko devils from setting the bombs in that traffic and blowing up many cars around there? SMH. there must be another solution o. from danger to danger

Unknown said...

Minister of FCT and the security chiefs should do something fast...this is just an easy avenue for BH to strike again.

My thoughts exactly, they should find another means of carrying out their security activities cos BH can take advantage of this if care is not taken.

It's not even an aftermath. That senseless checkpoint has been there for a long time now. They have all govt offices barricaded but travelers have to endure hours at the keffi check point just to get to the end and look at some ugly looking men in uniform. Thank the good Lord that BK gang haven't tot of that gridlock yet. I'm glad channels reported this yesterday!

This is not the way to improve security. There are better ways of doing this than risking the lives of the people you are supposed to be securing and putting them under so much stress. This is most unfair.

Be reasonable Stern... What's is worth doing at all is worth doing well. Am sure if ua one those stocked in dis hold up u'll be scared of a possible attack too. The military shud understand dat BH only operate in large crowd and dis traffic is also enof for BH to operate w/o evn getting to d check point, so what's the use then?

Anonymous said...

The traffic is ridiculous, whoever gave the order should be fired ASAP. The government should discourage any form of traffic or large gathering right now, bcos that would be a good opportunity for BH to strike. A tanker almost caught fire on monday in that traffic, u can all just imagine what would have happened if it did?
