Classic

Most times when we walk into big malls, boutiques, supermarkets, we never question their prices. We pay exactly what we see on the price tags and even hand out tips to the staff.
But the moment we are out of these shops and want to buy banana, our bargaining game gets off to the roof. Poor widow with 12 hungry children at home tells you banana is N100. She even takes out her time to explain how difficult it was for her to even buy it, how the economy is so tough.
But we insist that if it's not N50, we are not paying. Some of us even step back into our cars and make to drive away. But because 'half bread is better chin chin', this woman is forced to call you back and sell to you at little or no gain. In her heart, she cries, she's worried about how she'll survive with her children. She silently reassures herself that 'It's well.
God will definitely provide.'' While you happily chop the luscious banana. Take some seconds out and think about this, guys. Please don't bargain hard with small vendors like this. They do business not to buy designer bags, Gucci shoes but to LIVE and EAT!

These are state of the art cars in those days.

All these show the vanity of life. Only a name u make for urself can last till eternity, all material things will faze out. As they say 'good name is better than silver or good''.

Unknown said...

These were among the most expensive rides back in the days. So its no big deal. Decades from now, unborn generations would laugh at what we call luxury now. That's life, its ever changing.

I stand to be corrected but I don't think we had a Senate, not to talk of Senate President in the 60's. We initially had British style parliament.. The switch over to American styled Senate and House of reps happened in 1979..

Ever before Nigeria thought of Independence, this young man at the age of about 24 had been honored twice by President Roosevelt and his wife Eleonore at the White House. This was about 1944 following the erudite young author's book on Imperialism. The book titled "Without Bitterness" was a classic and advocated that Imperialism was unjust but that colonial Africans nursed no bitterness against the colonialists. That he rose to be Nigeria's first or second President of the Senate after Nigeria became independent showed his genius and gift of oratory. Unlike the politicians of that era, it is not known that he was associated with violence. These cars in his garage deserve to B taken good care of properly by his children. But does it surprise anyone the state in which they are now? For a long time to come the children of Nigeria's elites will be on exile abroad until they lose their heritage completely. Let those who hoard and send their children abroad continue. The meek and poor shall inherit Nigeria.

Forget the cars. For me the real embarrassment is the rusty roof. Nigeria Institute of Standards should ban the so called Corrugated Zinc Roofing Sheets. They are a rip off. Aluminium is longer lasting and corrosion proof. For roofing purposes the tariff should be very low to displace the rusty ripoff produced by Indian merchants. They deface our cities.

At least this should serve as a lesson to our politicians. Whatever we are stockpiling today will become obsolete sooner than later

Unknown said...

That is to say, money is very funny, if you dont spend it wisely, it will not be there tomorrow. If the amount of money used to invest in a business or built a house, it will be valued by now. But with cars, depreciated and devalued. So invest wisely.

Nna Mehn & Ade Bayo: absolutely correct.

"...Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds...." - Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, January 15 1966
