Got this email with photos from a close friend of the family of the young man named Chibyke Edeh (pictured above) who was killed. I will share it exactly the way it was sent to me. Read below...
"I never thought I will ever have cause to go through such
torment. The story I am about to share is worse than that of ALUU4.
ALUU4 victims were murdered by civilians and not people meant to
protect the masses...the Police.
The
attached pictures are of a boy in his mid twenties. He was tortured to
death by police men. Until his arrest and murder, he was
working with Protea hotel in Benin. He was accused of
stealing N45,000 from a guest in one of the rooms he
attended to and as such was arrested, detained and not granted bail. The police then asked the parents to go bring N27000 for his bail.
By the time they got back with the money, they were told he was dead. He
was tortured until he died.
The person went on to mention name of the police station and officers involved but because I haven't confirmed all these, I will leave all that out for now. Tried to speak with his brother, but said to call back. See photo of the young man after he was tortured after the cut *warning - graphic photo*

This unfortunate pattern of murder has become far too common. This young man,Chibyke,wasn't only murdered in extrajudicial fashion,he was tortured to death. He suffered a deep facial cut and burns traversing the length of his back. All of these injuries were inflicted after he had been taken into custody, unarmed. We expect the police to come up with their usual story but we must hope and work for justice undeterred. The freedom the police now believes it has to take Nigerian lives under dubious pretexts (usually outright lies) should worry each and every one of us. The excessive use of deadly force regardless of the pretext needs to stop. Torture of the innocent and even the guilty needs to stop. Arresting people on payment by private individuals must stop. Any means you can use to spread the word about this incident, please do. Protea Hotel in Benin and the Nigerian Police Force have blood on their hands. Justice must be served. *The police say he attempted to run and was run over by a Camry car. Those injuries aren't consistent with that. Furthermore, his family insists he was taken into custody at the station and was tortured as the story above says. The only way we can stem the tide of wanton acts of incompetence and wickedness from the police is to not let issues like this die.

I hate the police! That was how,someone came to my shop,that a policeman said he gave me generator,i told him it was the wrong shop. Then i locked the shop to go meet a client. On my way, i met the same guy,he barricaded the road,saying i ain't going nowhere till i bring the generator. That i should wait for the policeman to come,people suddenly gathered. After one hour the police man came and said am not the one. When my husband arrived the scene,with anger he tapped his chest,he didn't know the guy was a policeman,the next thing policemen gathered and said we should raise our hands or they will shoot us,then they carried us to the station,when we got there they said we should pay 20,000,otherwise they will tell the policeman to go and lie down in the hospital,so that it will result to court case.we paid the money. And they bailed us. We later learnt that that is how police send street boys to look for trouble,so that they will make money through that. God wil punish those bad policemen soiling the image of the police force.
Oh my God. Naija which way na? When will we get things right in the most reasonable way? No one should be tortured until proven guilty, either by self - confession or valid evidence. I'm no lawyer but I know this from watching crime channels and movies. Only mild warnings, coercion and at most mild torture (if a primary evidence is gotten, to use in nailing him) should be used. How can one be tortured like this without any validation for the theft claim, from him or strong evidence provided by the accuser? This is so sick and I pray God vindicates him, if he was innocent, if not may God forgive him and the people who killed him. This is so sick.
