Dangote woos Ibeju-Lekki indigines with cash & cars to release land for his refinery project

Billionaire businessman and Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote in company of the Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola was at the Ibeju-Lekki axis of Lagos yesterday Sunday Feb. 9th to woo the inhabitants of the community to give up their lands which is expected to be used to develop Dangote's proposed Refinery and Petrochemical Project, which is one of the Lagos Free Trade Zone Projects.

According to Sahara Reporters, cars and cash gifts were used to lure the people which they refused  but was accepted by their village heads. Last week the state government had tried using the police and other security agencies to evict the people from the land which they resisted. See more photos after the cut...

A more appropriate title would have been "Fashola falls for Dangote" Look at Fashola's eyes looking into Dangotes. This is what big money does.

I really am not sure and still very confused how people can look up to and admire Dangote's wealth... for f*** he monopolised the Nigerian goods market... how then should he be admired. He should allow competition and let us and the rest of the world see if he will be as successful. #PostThisCommentOhLinda

Yes I like that they refused , and that is very insulting to the community members to think if he gives them money and cars they will leave . The community heads are olojukokoro for accepting them . I very much doubt that the Lagos state government are planning to rehouse these people , there are so many refineries that are not in use in Nigeria he should buy them and use them .

Cerystal B please go n read ur history books well. Nothing nice abt this move; how will cars n cash ensure dat dey cn eat 2mao? Or that d future of their generation is secure? Cn d money pay tuition all d way to Uni? N still feed d family? Cn it pay their rent? Let us nt even mention clothing; cn it foot medical bills? Very wrong move in my opinion n in d opinion of history. Bt we never learn. I knw Dangote is a good man. But he is 1st a businessman then a philanthropist. I advice d indigenes to draw up a map of wat that refinery will give bck to d community (schools, hospitals, scholarships etc) n so on b4 dey release any land. Dey shud get good lawyers o.
The masses r strongwilled, bt the village heads AGAIN. Same morons dat sold us into slavery.

It's nt fair at all. Some village head ll still sell their own burial ground bfore dey kpai. I pity for their young generation.

Why is Fashola looking at Dangote like that?

Anonymous said...

this is crude capitalism in action and the end result is injustice to the poor. Are there not lawful ways of acquiring land in lagos through negotiation and agreement. if the owners are not interested in selling why must they be forced or coerced?. this is victimisation and it forebodes a new and dangerous dimension to land acquisition in lagos state. even though the project could be beneficial to society, yet the poor landowners have equal rights with Dangote. Is the money enough for them to purchase land and resettle elsewhere?

Anonymous said...

Good point! And that is why no one but the ibos are investing in iboland. You godforsaken biafrans.

Anonymous said...

Dangote should leave Lagos alone and go and develop his northern states, is he scared of Boko Haram, lekki is an island does he intend to cause pollution in Lagos. See what they did to d Niger delta, Fashola should think about the environment first

Anonymous said...

AJ u just said my mind. U r vry correct. Wish we ve more sensible youths around wit brilliant tot, but painfully der isn't.

Anonymous said...

and let me ask u, how will all these u mentioned be a garantee that their tution, house rent, feeding clothing, etc be assured? Do u even know if some of them owe more than the potion they acquire?. Dangote did well by paying them back and at same time, creating job for the jobless and who know he may even consider these ones he took their land first when employing.

The alarming rate of yoruba hatred for the Ibos is appalling! Did the ibos kill your ancestors yoruba people? Gush! You sons and daughters of oduduwa are filled with envy, jealousy and inferiority complex! Infact envy is a culture in your land! Why dont you lot demand your own free state and shut your door to the rest of the world! I thought y'all are enlightened then you shoulda known that any highly developed nation has immigrants as their bedrock! Go ask America. I wonder why the ibos are your worst nightmares that you lots cant just live, breath and eat without having to call them out.

Anonymous said...

You bloody hypocritical yoruba thing! How much greedy can you lot get? I thought greed is the exclusive right of the ibos as you bitter souls always tend to paint it! How come your local chiefs are collecting bribe to sell out their people whom they are supposed to protect! I bet if this where to be ibo chiefs this blog woulda been buzzing with your bitter and biased comments. Always panting and all out intimidated with anything that has to do with ibos! Just like you moron calling them out now! Yes the sell spare parts atleast that's an honest living than selling your peoples birthright over a cheap car!

Dangote is evil. He is on a mission to take lagos out of the map.Building a refinery in lekki is totally unacceptable.Air quality is their target. What in the world is wrong with Nigerians. Dangote trucks are killing Nigerians on the the road everyday. Isn,t that enough. Now he wants to poison lagosians with his so called refinery.Cancer rate will dramatically increase. Gov. Fashola never tried to eject the villagers with police men. He has always spoken to the villagers like a father and appeal to them. The land in question is not habitable is swampy and a lot of dredging and land reclamation will take place before any construction can take place and this involves billions of dollars. In the Next 100 years, the villagers cannot develop that land.

The major purpose of the Free Zone project is to boost the economy and create jobs for thousands of people. We cry everyday there are no jobs in Nigeria and yet we refuse such a huge development for myopic reasons. How then do we want the development ? the infrastructures we enjoy today are on people's land. Do you know how many hectares of land the airports are sitting on ? do you have any idea the original owners ?

There is a resettlement scheme in place should those close to the refinery become uncomfortable.

Unknown said...

Dangote is the richest man in Africa. He can have that refinery anywhere he wants but would you prefer that refinery outside Nigeria ? do you know how many people will be employed through that project ?
