$100 - 97 -2- 1 = 0 You borrowed $100, you bought the shirt for $97, gave your mum $1, your dad $1 plus the remain $1, meaning that there is nothing left
It's an illusion. There's no missing $1. After you paid $1 each to your parents, your indebtedness reduced from $100 to $98. You used $97 to buy shirt , and the remaining $1 is in your freaking pocket. Thaz'all.

here, we are dealing with odd numbers and their sum will definitely give an even number. so for you to find the missing $1, just give one of them another $1 then the amount corresponds 48+49=97 QED
it's like this... 97/2 = 48.5 That means, for the exact value of the cloth, Mom contributed 48.5 and Dad also contributed 48.5 since the initial investment capital was an equal amount by both parties.
remember, you bought the cloth or whatever for 97dollars and you borrowed 50dollars EACH from Mom and Dad, totalling 100dollars. You had three dollars change after buying the item and gave Mom and Dad 1dollar each, it means you still owe 49.5dollars each totalling 99dollars + the 1dollar you pocketed = 100dollars. The "missing" 1dollar is the sum of the .5dollar you owe mom and dad from the price of the item. its all about decimals.
YOU STILL HAVE THE $1 WITH YOU. $49 + $49 =$98, the prize of the shirt($97) + $1 at hand. So since you have already given them $2, the equation is now: Money at hand = $1 Shirt = $97 Parents = $2 So, Shirt + Money at hand = $98 = ($49 +$49) = Money owed parents. Add the $2 to that, and you have $100
The equation isn't right. First, since I returned $2 to my parents, it means I actually borrowed $98. Out of this $98, I bought a $97 shirt, and the remaining $1 is what I kept for myself. Bingo!!
If you divide the cost of the shirt which is $97 by 2, you will get $48.5 which means each parent contributed $48.5. If you add $48.5 + $1(the change) you'll get $49 .5 Dad ($49.5) + Mom ($49.5) + $1=$100.
The remaining $1 is in buying the shirt. It's include in the amount you use in buying the shirt.Linda na wa 4u ooooooo.E don tale wey I sabi dis ur questin ooo.Engr.AUSTINE OGBEBOR from Edo State.
The $1 didn't go anywhere, you bought a shirt for 97 got 3 dollars back. You took 1 dollar that never belonged to you in the first place. You shouldnt keep 1 dollar. Give one of them 2 dollars and the other 1 dollar that will leave you owing one 48 and one 49 wich adds up to 97. 97+3 = 100 duhhh
The trick is in the fact that you are going the wrong way. You are going toward 100 when you say 49+49 = 98 and then you're adding the dollar to get 99, when you should've subtracted the dollar to get 97. You could've either given your mom or dad the dollar and then it would've been 49+48 = 97. Or you could've still given the dollar to both parents, .50 to each to keep it even. Then it would be 48.5 + 48.5 = 97. Done.
All I want to say is that I'm going to sue both you and NEMA for your fake report. Do you know how many millions I would have made yesterday but didn't because I had to reschedule and change plans because your NEMA gave misleading information? I'm making you second defendant to the suit Linda, so happy you're a millionaire.
D $1 is wit u,share $97 btw mum n dad to get $48.5 each add d $1 u gave dem to get 49.5 each,share d one $1 u have among dem to get $50 each! So d $100 is complete
If u have given ur dad and mum $1 each and later gave them $49 each again, that means you are left with nothing if u add it up u have returned their $50 each, so u will be left with nothing.
There is no missin $1,cos wen u returned $1 you r left with $98 now u r returnin $49 for mom n dad which makes it $98 so dats wat u eventually borrowed and not $100
To knw where d $1 went, I'll call family meeting make dem return the $1 $1 I gave them each biko. I no fit shout. Cum cum linda na wetin I du u self? Na only jandon ppl u dey alwys post thr comment. GenShun.
The dollar you have kept for yourself should not have been added to the money you owe, it should have been subtracted instead. 98-1=97 97 is the worth of the shirt.
Easy!!! it makes no logical sense to add money owed plus money money left; instead it ought to be #98 +#2 already given. In a nut shell last mathematical statement is not logical hence the error.
Since you borrowed from the, you are only allowed to add the 48$ to the 2$ you returned. And the 1$ with you can be added to the 97$ price of the shirt and the 2$ you returned. Its equal to 100$ in both cases. So, the one dollar you're asking of is as a result of you wrong computing of values

So easy! There's no missing 1 dollar. This is it: $97 for the shirt + $1 dollar with me + $2 I paid back = $100. Another way is $98 I owe + $2 I paid back = $100. The $1 with me is part of the $98 I owe (97 for d shirt + 1 with me).... Voila. No missing $1.. The correct thing is since I paid them $1 dollars each, I owe $49 apiece which is a sum total of ma shirt (97) + 1 dollar I took.
really mind bugging. here goes, u divided the $97 into two. that gives u $48.50 x 2= 97. then, u gave them &1 dollar each=99 and u had and extra $1 which brings the grand total to $ 100. (hope i got it)
If u paid $97 for d shirt, dat means what u paid from d money u borrowed from ur dad is $48.5,and from ur mum $48.5,returning $1 each to both of them makes it $99 plus d one with you =$100! Aunty Linda pls post ma comment cos u never do and I wonder y and what I have done to u,mbooook. Que
There's no missing $1 u rather subtract $1 from $98 than add,it will total 97which is the cost of the shirt.if u we're to return $1.50 to each parent u will owe exactly $97.
Lol! funny Linda, it's 49+49-1 cause you have 1 and can decide to give your mom 2$ and your dad 1$ or give them 1.5$ each so you end up owing the 48.5 each. The money no miss jo, since the 1$ is with you why add it to ur debt? you subtract it from total debt, interesting though
It's in my ass, come and get it, what are we 5?, dat ure askin this cheap question. Anyway the 1 dollar does not exist since U returned 2 dollars and kept 1 for urself. 2 minus 1. This is d easiest logic.
There's no missing $1. if you bought the shirt for $97 then you owe each parent $48.50. $48.50 for each parent is $97; you returned $2 - that's $99; then you kept $1; thats $100.
shirt-$97 mum-$50 and Dad-$50. total-$100 change-$3 and so $100 balances out. however, since shirt cost $97; mum contributed $48.50 and Dad $48.50, while you didn't contribute at all. Hence, if you give mum $1 and dad$1, that means they both have spent $48.50+$1=$49.50 each remaining 50cents for each parent. and so the missing dollar is that which you took for yourself which should be shared by both parents. Wow serious brain teaser!!!
There's no missing $1. if you bought the shirt for $97 then you owe each parent $48.50. $48.50 for each parent is $97; you returned $2 - that's $99; then you kept $1; thats $100.
There is no missing dollar. You didn't calculate it properly...what you should have first of all done is minus ur own $1 from the $100 to make $99 dollars then half that amount to give them $48.50 dollars each.
$100- $1 (mum) -$1 (dad) -$1 (you) = $97
$97/2 = $48.50
In fact you are the one that has the missing dollar ole! Tief! HALF IT AND GIVE IT BACK TO YOUR PARENTS Since u took $50 from them, that is exactly what you owe them.
Wow I thnk the missin 1$ Ȋ̝̊̅§ the shirt Ɣ☺ΰ bought,cos Ɣ☺ΰ used it Ƒ̐δя̣̣ the shirt..I knw I gat it right..follow •̸Ϟﻉ on twiter @cyndichristal α̲̅ŋϑ I will follow bk
Dere is no missing 1 dollar.if u gave dem 1 dollar each frm d 3 dollars change n kept 1 dollar,d 1 dollar is urs n doesn't affect d calculation.u owe dem 49dollars each n thus d calculation wuld b. 49+49+1+1.which wuld surely give us 100 dollars..
The one dollar is with Me! $97/2= $48.5 Since I've given each of them(Dad&Mum)$1, it becomes $49.5+ $49.5= $99 Then plus the $1 with me it becomes $99 + $1= $100
After paying $1 to ur mom nd $1 to ur Dad, yo have $1 left with you which is +$1. Then -$49 + -$49 is what u owe mom nd dad. Which sums up to be -$98. So -$98 + +$1 can never be positive $99. I.e summing what u owe $98, which is a minus $98 with $1 u have with u, which is plus $1, can never be a plus $99 rather a minus $97. Which means you've payed one more dollar nd now owe $97. Which remains a minus $97. (-$97). Mathematics do not lie, you only need to do the right application. Thanks... Engr. Ekene (lion)
$100 - $1 to each parent = $98, Then $98 - $1 you kept = $97, $97 - $97 for cost of shirt = $0 The solution is that there is no missing $1 because the equation set-up is fallacious. There is no principle in accounting which would dictate that one's cash assets ($1) added to one's liabilities ($98) should equal the original principle of one's liabilities ($100).
There is no missing $1. U bought d shirt for $ 97. Meaning u owe ur parents $48.5. You gave them $1 each. Making it $49.5 each. And u kept $1. Total $100. Simple
in the final step of the analysis, $98 cant be added to cash you have. a debt is considered as negative money. adding your debt and your cash? who does that?!
First of all,u av to divide d amount he bought d shirt by 2 i.e 97/2=48.5,therefore d amount he's owing his parents are 48.5,48.5 respectively, plus the $1 each he gave them, making it $99.plus d $1 he kept for himself wch is $100.kudos to mee..
Easy one, he is owing them $49.50 each before, because $97 + $2 = $99 and since he has returned $1 back to each party, now he is just owing them $48.50 each. Not much of a brain work though :P

There ain't no missing $. You borrowed $50+$50=$100. You gave $1+$1=2 back to mum n dad. Then you later gave $49+$49=$98 back to them. So therefore $2+98=$100. If there'll be anything, it's an extra $ which you initially keep for your self. DON'T CONFUSE ME. Lol Cynthia. ..
if we can split $97 into two den u av $48.5 for both mum and dad, ($48.5 + $48.5 = $97) + ($1 Mum + $1 Dad + $1 With you = $3). Total $97 + $3 = $100.... I try nah
You are not owing your dad and mum $49 each rather you are owing $49.50 each and the calculation goes thus:
Shirt bought at $97 Divide $97 by 2 gives 48.5 Add $1 returned 48.5 + 1 = 49.5 Multiply 49.5 by 2 = 99 Therefore you will be left with $1 that you keep for yourself
How can you keep $1 for urself when u never had any money in the first place? It is that $1 u kept for urself that makes it look as if money is missing. Simply put, the $1 u kept for urself is the one missing, olodo
Linda since when did ur blog become a maths class ? Even for d real maths I get F9, na Im u come want make I come ur blog dey crack my head, gerraway u my friend
The missing $1 is not properly accounted for and is still with you. Reason because, the shirt costs $97 and you borrow $50 each from both parents, and have $3 remaining. Therefore, when you return $1 each to your parents. That means, the balance goes this way: $97 shirt + $2 returned + $1 you have = $100. So, the missing $1 is not properly accounted for, thank you.
His dad and mum individually contributed 48,500x2 = 97k to buy d shirt. So he was supposed to return their individual contribution of 48,500, in addition to 1,500 to round the figures to 50k for dad, and 50k for mum. BUT what did he choose to do? He paid back 1k to dad, and 1k to mum. That left him with 48,500 (shirt) for dad, and 48,500 for mum, in addition to 500 (1,500 - 1,000) for dad and same computation for mum. Ur narrative erroneously said "UR 1K". hE DOESNT HAVE ANY MONEY TO HIMSELF. Whatever he gave himself wud still be used to pay d debt. what we havent taken to consideration is that he no longer borrowed 100K but rather 98k (since he returned 2k to his parents). so 48,500x2 = 98k. D 1k he purportedly gave himself shdnt be into account, cos ultimately he"ll still use it to settle his outstanding debt.

hahaha!! Not one comment!! There is no $1. The shirt cost $97 and u kept $1 to yourself, thats $98 which is = to the $49 + $49 you still owe your parents. Therefore the remainung $2 is what u paid back equalling a total of $100. Its more trick grammer than trick math. The riddle makes u think you are to add $1 to the $98, when infact that $1 is already part of the $98 you owe($97 shirt + $1 you paid yourself) and you should simply just add the $2 to the $98 you owe your parents.
Hi Linda, this is written wrong because in the final analysis, there is an EXCESS of $1.00 not a MISSING $1.00. How? I owe my parents $49.00 each after initially giving them $1.00 each from the change so their $50.00 each is complete. So $50.00 (Mom) + $50.00 (Dad) + $1.00 (Me)is $101.00. Where did my own $1.00 dollar I collected from the change of $3.00 come from. This should be the question because I have seen this before and I never got the answer. Mathematicians, HELP!!!
His dad and mum individually contributed $48.5x2 = $97 to buy d shirt. So he was supposed to return their individual contribution of 48,500, in addition to $1.5 to round the figures to $50 for dad, and $50 for mum. BUT what did he choose to do? He paid back $1 to dad, and $1 to mum. That left him with $48.5 (shirt) for dad, and 48,500 for mum, in addition to 500 (1,500 - 1,000) for dad and same computation for mum. T doesn't make sense, why wud he add his $1 to d $98 he owes. He doesn't ve the $98, he has only $1. It doesn't make mathematical sense. T doesn't. Rubbish tin.
Hi Linda, This are 2 different things, the debt and the actual cash. if you add them together like you just did you will never get the total sum. He borrowed $100 and paid back $2 then he is owning $98. On the cash side, (Borrowed $100-$97 (for shirt)-$2 (pay debt)+1(leftover)=$2. Then we have $49(dad)+$49(mum)+$2(from above)=$100
This is simple math and accounting. You can't be tracing his 100 by adding up his 2 his two liabilities of 98 naira and his balance cash asset of 1 naira. To account for the 100 naira u add his 1naira balance on his cash asset to his 97 naira spent on shirt and to his 2 naira cash disbursement.simple
Ive seen this before, the arithmetic you did is actually wrong... While you borrowed a total of 100...you bought your shirt for 97... so you arithmetic should read $97 (for the shirt) + $1 (dad) + S1 (mum) + $1 for you.
The attempt was to use the question to confuse. but it was a wrong equation.
There's ₪☺ missing dollar, unless na Linda thief am. Dis is it- Mum and Dad ђa̶̲̥̅vξ been given $2 already, U̶̲̥̅̊ ђa̶̲̥̅vξ $1 with U̶̲̥̅̊, Shirt is $97. So, 2+1+97=$100. QED
No brainer The missing 1 dollar is with you. You initially gave your parents 1 dollar each and owe them 49dollar each making it 100dollar... Yu r holding the 1dollar that should be given to either of them.

The dollar you have kept for yourself should not have been added to the money you owe, it should have been subtracted instead. 98-1=97 97 is the worth of the shirt. the 3 dollars, let's say, if given to ur mom or dad, and you didn't keep anything for youself, then you owe them, 48 and 49. There's no missing dollar.

Dad and Mom is tied to the $97, SO $97 DIVIDED BY 2(mum & dad)= $48.500 each. He gives dad $1 = $49.500
He gives mum $1 = $49.500 = $99.000 The remaining $1 with him =$100.000 so therefore he was meant to give both dad and mum $1.500 each to balance the money, but he decided to give them $1 and keep $1 to confuse them Naija boy no dulling.
the shirt costs 97$ .... if you divide it by two it would be 48.5$ then add 1$ to 48.5$= 49.5 .... thats the money for each of them ... 49.5 +49.5 = 99 + your 1$= 100...
There is no "other" dollar. See, after borrowing $100, i used up $97 for the shirt. I returned a dollar to each of my parents, so i owe $98 total. This $98 should correspond to the $97 (for the shirt) plus the $1 that i have with me. Oya Linda, where is my price??
First u divide d 97$ used in buyn d shirt by 2 dat will give u 48.5$,add it to d 1$ each u've already given to both parents dat will give u 49.5$ den u also divide d remaining 1$ u hv left with u by 2 n give dat each to both parents dat will make it 50$ each.
the shirt costs 97$ .... if you divide it by two it would be 48.5$ then add 1$ to 48.5$= 49.5 .... thats the money for each of them ... 49.5 +49.5 = 99 + your 1$= 100...

Since i had £3 fr change, i Would give it to either my mom or dad...instead of keepin it to myself. And den i'll b owing one 47 and d other, 50 sooo 47 + 50 + 3 = 100
There is mo missing $1 the eqution is -50-50 = -100. +97+1+1+1 = +100. -100 + 100 = 0. When you borrow you are in minus and when you repay is positive. Therefore as an Accountant l conclude that there is no missing $1
There's no missing S1. You are not owing your parents S49, you're owing them S49.5 each. Add it together 49.5 +49.5=99. Then plus the 1 you have with you which is equal to 100 which is the exact money you once had
You borrowed $50 from your dad and $50 from you mum. You bought a shirt for $97, and you have $3 for change. You give a dollar each to your mum and dad, and you're left with $1.
Now you owe your dad $49 and your mum $49. You have $98 to pay back all together.
In essence, your dad has $1 and your mum has $1. You have $49 to give to your dad, and $49 to give to your mum. The right math would actually be: $1 (with your mum) + $1 (with your dad) + $49 (which you owe your dad) + $49 (which you owe your mum) = $100.
You CANNOT include the $1 with you in the math, because the math is (or really should be) about how much you collected from your dad and mum ($100), how much you owe them after collection ($100), how much you gave them back ($2), and how much you have left to give ($98 = $49 for Dad and $49 for Mum).

LINDA YOU NEED TO BE FLOGGED. DO NOT MESS WITH MY HEAD LIKE THAT AGAIN. HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:
YOU OWE THEM $49 dollar each which is $49 x 2 = $98 . $97 for the shirt + $2 already paid to them + $1 with you = $100
Bye Bye
Linda, pls try re-blogging dis in Naira, the Dollar sign will confuse a bulk of ur dumb clueless followers.

It's an illusion. There's no missing $1. After you paid $1 each to your parents, your indebtedness reduced from $100 to $98. You used $97 to buy shirt , and the remaining $1 is in your freaking pocket. Thaz'all.

D bal dey with u Linda. Lol,
If you returned $1 to each, it means you actually borrowed $49 from each.
$49+$49=$98
$98-$97=$1
Nothing's actually missing!
Thinking,Linda what happen, mobile cant post a comment again
it's like this...
There isn't any $1 owed because you kept it. Both parents are owed $49 each and that's it.
+ ur 2$ nt 1$
YOU STILL HAVE THE $1 WITH YOU. $49 + $49 =$98, the prize of the shirt($97) + $1 at hand. So since you have already given them $2, the equation is now: Money at hand = $1
Shirt = $97
Parents = $2
So, Shirt + Money at hand = $98 = ($49 +$49) = Money owed parents.
Add the $2 to that, and you have $100
U av made urslf a debtor
D $1 s wiv d guy
The equation isn't right. First, since I returned $2 to my parents, it means I actually borrowed $98. Out of this $98, I bought a $97 shirt, and the remaining $1 is what I kept for myself. Bingo!!
because the remaining 1 was never existing
If you divide the cost of the shirt which is $97 by 2, you will get $48.5 which means each parent contributed $48.5. If you add $48.5 + $1(the change) you'll get $49 .5
Dad ($49.5) + Mom ($49.5) + $1=$100.
Theres no missing one dollar, he just gave his parents 2 dollars previously and he is to balance them 98 dollars wch would make 100 dollars.
There's no missing $1, I now owe them $98, as I already gave them $2. My $1 is my $1.lol
The remaining $1 is in buying the shirt. It's include in the amount you use in buying the shirt.Linda na wa 4u ooooooo.E don tale wey I sabi dis ur questin ooo.Engr.AUSTINE OGBEBOR from Edo State.
Na d transport fare b dat! Hehehehe
The one dollar is the one you kept for yourself. It must be returned. Why take one dollar when you didn't add a dime?
D $1 is in d $97,divide it among mum n dat to get $48.5 each plus d $1 to get $49.5,add dem up to get $100.
we are adding the wrong things. You gave your parents $1 each so...you actually borrowed $98 dollars from them and the shirt costs $97...so 97 +1 =98
You borrowed
50 + 50 = 100
You bought the shirt for 97
i.e
48.5 + 48.5
so you owe them 1.5 each.. the $1 you kept isnt yours
so in the end, you have
(48.5 + 1 + 0.5)twice = 100
The trick is in the fact that you are going the wrong way. You are going toward 100 when you say 49+49 = 98 and then you're adding the dollar to get 99, when you should've subtracted the dollar to get 97. You could've either given your mom or dad the dollar and then it would've been 49+48 = 97. Or you could've still given the dollar to both parents, .50 to each to keep it even. Then it would be 48.5 + 48.5 = 97. Done.
i am giving back the same $1 because its not mine. all were borowed. so, that make it $100 again.
This is hard
The $1 u kept for yourself
All I want to say is that I'm going to sue both you and NEMA for your fake report. Do you know how many millions I would have made yesterday but didn't because I had to reschedule and change plans because your NEMA gave misleading information? I'm making you second defendant to the suit Linda, so happy you're a millionaire.
VALERIE.
U used the $1 for transport . Lol
Your last line "98 +1" is wrong. it should be "-49 -49 +1" = -97. this equals the value of the shirt bought for 97. so you have created any value!
the missing one dollar is taken as a tax
No money is missing. Your debt is 98 and u have 1, making a total debt of 97 represented by the shirt (asset) of 97. money no loss!
Linda this your question is too stupid
D $1 is wit u,share $97 btw mum n dad to get $48.5 each add d $1 u gave dem to get 49.5 each,share d one $1 u have among dem to get $50 each! So d $100 is complete
...... Huzo
If u have given ur dad and mum $1 each and later gave them $49 each again, that means you are left with nothing if u add it up u have returned their $50 each, so u will be left with nothing.
There is no missin $1,cos wen u returned $1 you r left with $98 now u r returnin $49 for mom n dad which makes it $98 so dats wat u eventually borrowed and not $100
'And kept the other $1 for urself'what does that imply linda, post my comment oh.

D missin $1 is d shirt yeah! First 2 comment
$97 for the shirt + the $1 you kept = $98.
The 2 extra dollars went back to your parents.
The dollar you have kept for yourself should not have been added to the money you owe, it should have been subtracted instead.
98-1=97
97 is the worth of the shirt.
first to comment.......hahahahahaah! okay, now lemmie go and find dat missing $1.....
Easy!!! it makes no logical sense to add money owed plus money money left; instead it ought to be #98 +#2 already given. In a nut shell last mathematical statement is not logical hence the error.
Nothing is missing
49 +49 = 98 -your 1 =97= price of shirt
Blame it on xchange rate....
The one you kept for yourself is the 1$ missing.

Que
97/2=48.5
100-97=3
3/2=1.5
So u owe ur mom 1.5 and dad 1.5 naira add 1.5 to 1.5= 3
Add 3 to 97 =100
There's no missing $1 u rather
subtract $1 from $98 than add,it will total 97which is the cost of the shirt.if u we're to return $1.50 to each parent u will owe exactly $97.
E dey your pocket! Check for am well!
Nice one
Lol! funny Linda, it's 49+49-1 cause you have 1 and can decide to give your mom 2$ and your dad 1$ or give them 1.5$ each so you end up owing the 48.5 each. The money no miss jo, since the 1$ is with you why add it to ur debt? you subtract it from total debt, interesting though
DelTruder
It's in my ass, come and get it, what are we 5?, dat ure askin this cheap question. Anyway the 1 dollar does not exist since U returned 2 dollars and kept 1 for urself. 2 minus 1. This is d easiest logic.
If this were some gossip, all them low-lifes woulda filled the blog with lousy comments. A little brain teaser, ....and Blank!
Don't you loss money?
Its with the shirt seller....
Linda the boy no go enter motor go buy the shirts?? Abi him fly go dia??? The missing $1 is for transpoortation jooor. Linda u be otondo
Your debt is $98 u ar nt supposed 2 add your $1 u ar 2 subtract it sef........ choooi I almost ran mad
There's no missing $1. if you bought the shirt for $97 then you owe each parent $48.50. $48.50 for each parent is $97; you returned $2 - that's $99; then you kept $1; thats $100.
Hence, no missing money! Q.E.D
shirt-$97
mum-$50 and Dad-$50. total-$100
change-$3
and so $100 balances out.
however, since shirt cost $97; mum contributed $48.50 and Dad $48.50, while you didn't contribute at all.
Hence, no missing money! Q.E.D

No &1 missing becos the total money is not $100 rather $98 which is $97 for shirt and $1 dollar with you.
The one dollar is with Me! $97/2= $48.5 Since I've given each of them(Dad&Mum)$1, it becomes $49.5+ $49.5= $99 Then plus the $1 with me it becomes $99 + $1= $100
.There's isn't any missing one becos my 1$ shudnt b caculated, d 1$ I kept to my self becomes an xtra penny... Doou!
That $1 dey with me
linda dont u know it?? u answer
I returned $2 so I borrowed $98.
$100 - $1 to each parent = $98, Then $98 - $1 you kept = $97, $97 - $97 for cost of shirt = $0
The solution is that there is no missing $1 because the equation set-up is fallacious.
-$98+$1= -$97
First of all,u av to divide d amount he bought d shirt by 2 i.e 97/2=48.5,therefore d amount he's owing his parents are 48.5,48.5 respectively, plus the $1 each he gave them, making it $99.plus d $1 he kept for himself wch is $100.kudos to mee..
Easy one, he is owing them $49.50 each before, because $97 + $2 = $99 and since he has returned $1 back to each party, now he is just owing them $48.50 each. Not much of a brain work though :P
You owe your mum 48.5 and you owe your dad 48.5 (mum 48.5+ dad 48.5+ change 3 = 100.
Lol
Cynthia. ..
if we can split $97 into two den u av $48.5 for both mum and dad, ($48.5 + $48.5 = $97) + ($1 Mum + $1 Dad + $1 With you = $3). Total $97 + $3 = $100.... I try nah
The missing dollar is with Dame Patience
You are not owing your dad and mum $49 each rather you are owing $49.50 each and the calculation goes thus:
Shirt bought at $97
Divide $97 by 2 gives 48.5
Add $1 returned 48.5 + 1 = 49.5
Multiply 49.5 by 2 = 99
Therefore you will be left with $1 that you keep for yourself
Sumwia in my wallet
How can you keep $1 for urself when u never had any money in the first place? It is that $1 u kept for urself that makes it look as if money is missing. Simply put, the $1 u kept for urself is the one missing, olodo
Ehh .... with you!!!?
Reason being. you never had money to start with.
$100 - $1 to each parent = $98, Then $98 - $1 you kept = $97, $97 - $97 for cost of shirt = $0
The solution is that there is no missing $1 because the equation set-up is fallacious. There is no principle in accounting which would dictate that one's cash assets ($1) added to one's liabilities ($98) should equal the original principle of one's liabilities ($100).
tough but easy question
what she is owing them is #49,500 not #4900
You owe $2.
You are not to add the $1 you kept for yourself.
Hence $49+$49=$98 + $2 you owe = $100
If you add $1 (that really isn't yours) to what you owe, what you owe is now the initial $100 + $1 = $101
So $101 - $99 = $2 that you still owe
Linda since when did ur blog become a maths class ? Even for d real maths I get F9, na Im u come want make I come ur blog dey crack my head, gerraway u my friend
The $1 he kept for himself is the missing $1.
The missing $1 is not properly accounted for and is still with you. Reason because, the shirt costs $97 and you borrow $50 each from both parents, and have $3 remaining. Therefore, when you return $1 each to your parents. That means, the balance goes this way:
$97 shirt + $2 returned + $1 you have = $100.

It's with the person.
The $1 you took adds to the total amount you owe, your new total debt is $100 + $1 = $101.
$49+$49+1=$99
$101-$99=$2
Hence nothing is missing.
:)
the $1 is still with me
There is no missing money,$1 balance is with the boy since he bought the shirt for $97 and returned $2 to his Dad and Mum making total money $99.
T doesn't. Rubbish tin.
linda do u want us to go crazy dis mornin? Anyway d answer is simple 'MATHS SUCKS'
Hi Linda,
This are 2 different things, the debt and the actual cash. if you add them together like you just did you will never get the total sum.
Out of the 100$ debt, you spent 97$, paid back 2$ And kept 1$ for yourself. To sum it up, you owe your parents 98$ .

The $1 you took adds to the total amount you owe, your new total debt is $100 + $1 = $101.
$49+$49+1=$99
$101-$99=$2
Hence nothing is missing.
:)
100-97 = 3
3-2= 1 ie 2 for the parents and 1 for me
there's no money missing my pple :P
There's no missing dollar. You bought a shirt for $97, you gave your dad $1, you gave your mom $1 and you kept $1.
NO COMMENT!!!!...hahahah
The remaining $1 is included in the $97 used to purchase the shirt. Remember 97 is an odd number
Mum and Dad got a $ each previously $1+$1=2 then each one got their $49 back making it $100 and the remaining $1 is mine to keep. nothing missing
Mum and Dad got a $ each previously $1+$1=2 then each one got their $49 back making it $100 and the remaining $1 is mine to keep. nothing missing
Bcos the shirt was 97$ and u had $100 so when u removed 97 from 100 u 3, u payed off 2 and left with 1
You borrowed $100 from ur parents and you returned $2 to them. so now u owe them $98.
$97 of this $98 was spent on the shirt and the other $1 is in your pocket.
Ive seen this before, the arithmetic you did is actually wrong...
While you borrowed a total of 100...you bought your shirt for 97...
so you arithmetic should read
$97 (for the shirt) + $1 (dad) + S1 (mum) + $1 for you.
QED

$98-$97
i.e cost of shirt $97+my parents' returned $2+my own$1= $100
The dollar you have kept for yourself should not have been added to the money you owe, it should have been subtracted instead.
98-1=97
97 is the worth of the shirt.
the 3 dollars, let's say, if given to ur mom or dad, and you didn't keep anything for youself, then you owe them, 48 and 49.
There's no missing dollar.
D $ is wit ur mum or

In d shirt
this is the logic
the logic is in Division!
Dad and Mom is tied to the $97, SO $97 DIVIDED BY 2(mum & dad)= $48.500 each.
He gives dad $1 = $49.500
He gives mum $1 = $49.500
= $99.000
The remaining $1 with him =$100.000
so therefore he was meant to give both dad and mum $1.500 each to balance the money, but he decided to give them $1 and keep $1 to confuse them
Naija boy no dulling.
the shirt costs 97$ .... if you divide it by two it would be 48.5$ then add 1$ to 48.5$= 49.5 .... thats the money for each of them ...
49.5 +49.5 = 99 + your 1$= 100...
I guess am right Linda
There is no "other" dollar. See, after borrowing $100, i used up $97 for the shirt. I returned a dollar to each of my parents, so i owe $98 total. This $98 should correspond to the $97 (for the shirt) plus the $1 that i have with me.
Oya Linda, where is my price??
hmmmmm
Notice how people are quick to lay a comment when it's a picture of a bulge or a she-male but sail on by when they see a math question. LOL!!!
Yes I do linda,its in my pussy!!yeeeeeh!!!!
U use am chop kwulikwuli @ linda.
Kerry rhodes says he got kim kadashan pregnant(not kanye west)
Lin lin pls send me my gift o*wink*
Dad and Mum had 2 before u gave them 49 each . So that should make it a hundred and u keeper 1
the shirt costs 97$ .... if you divide it by two it would be 48.5$ then add 1$ to 48.5$= 49.5 .... thats the money for each of them ...
49.5 +49.5 = 99 + your 1$= 100...
I guess am right Linda

There is no missing $1 dollar. The question itself is wrong as you should have added the $2 given the parents to the equation. Here is a a break down:
The Loan is $50 and $50
The change is $3
The person gave the parent $2 and kep $1 for themselves.
The parent are not owed a total of $98.If you add the $98 to the $2 they were give ,it equal $100.There is no missing one dollar.
Bottomline ,the question is wrong.
$1 is with you...

$50 from mum + &50 from Dad= $100
cost of shirt = $97
$100-$97= $3
$3-$1(for Dad)-$1(for mum)-$1(for yourself)=$0
therefor: no amount is lost.
Since i had £3 fr change, i Would give it to either my mom or dad...instead of keepin it to myself. And den i'll b owing one 47 and d other, 50 sooo 47 + 50 + 3 = 100
The 1 dollar is still save
lynda pls post my anawer o cos i really cracked my brain o
yeeeepy 1st to comment,d xtra $1 is either wif mum or dad shekinah, linda u bera publish dis if somtin no de work u.
Its wit me
There is mo missing $1 the eqution is -50-50 = -100. +97+1+1+1 = +100. -100 + 100 = 0. When you borrow you are in minus and when you repay is positive. Therefore as an Accountant l conclude that there is no missing $1
hahahaha what am owing my parents is $45.5 each datz were d logic is
Accordin 2 d laws of business, u can't add credit and debit 2geda. So u can't add 98$ to d 1$ at hand. So, there's no 1$ left
There's no missing S1. You are not owing your parents S49, you're owing them S49.5 each. Add it together 49.5 +49.5=99. Then plus the 1 you have with you which is equal to 100 which is the exact money you once had
The math is wrong. There is no missing $1.
You can thank me later ;)
Chucks.
If you read it well it says "you kept the 'other' one dollar to yourself" "your dollar" is not the dollar you kept. i hope am ri8 oooo .
